Neil Devlin From the Colorado Dugout: Interview with 2020 RHP Spye Turnbeaugh of Arapahoe HS

Senior Writer

His name is Spye, Why? It’s a little sly.

Spye Turnbeaugh, while in the womb of his mother, was read I Spy books, the children’s series with text provided by Jean Marzollo and photographs by Walter Wick, and hot off the Scholastic Press.

The reader was older sister Talon.

“I was in there and she just read them to me,” Turnbeaugh said.

But he’s more than a teenager with a unique first name. Now a junior at Class 5A Arapahoe in Centennial, Turnbeaugh has grown to 6-foot-7, 190 pounds. A lot of his mother’s side is tall, he said, and he hopes to reach the Warriors’ No. 1 pitcher status. Four of the seven Warriors who threw a pitch in the past spring season were seniors, so Turnbeaugh is bidding  to jump to the front.
