Colorado Commitment Buzz

The last couple of weeks there has been a lot action on the commitment front as some of Colorado's top players finalized their decisions on where they are going to play at the next level. Highlighted by 2016 Regis Jesuit High School RHP Bo Weiss, who made the decision to follow in his Dad's footsteps (Walt Weiss, current manager of the Colorado Rockies) by committing to North Carolina. New Mexico University recruited two of the top ten in our Colorado 2015 rankings over the last month as Rocky Mountain OF Cole Anderson (No. 9 in 2015 rankings) and Legend RHP Peyton Remy (No. 7 in 2015 rankings) chose to commit as Lobos.  Below is a list of the recent commitments out of our state. 2015

Peyton Remy, RHP, Legend, 2015 (Ranked No. 7 in 2015 Class) The 6-foot-2, 180-pound senior at Legend High School looks to build off of a successful junior spring season and senior fall season. Remy's fastball reached as high as 89 mph this fall, and has all of the tools to be a dominant pitcher. As a senior, Remy will be handed the ball regularly and will take the lead on trying to lead the Titans back to the playoffs. Remy committed to New Mexico.

Cole Anderson, OF, Rocky Mountain, 2015 (Ranked No. 9 in 2015 class): 5-11, 180-pounder recently committed to New Mexico. As a junior Anderson set the table all year for the 5A state champions Rocky Mountain Lobos. Anderson hit .494 on the season, leading 5A with 37 runs, and Cole also led the Lobos with 14 doubles, 13 SB, and a .574 OBA. Cole also had an impressive OPA at 1.362. The speedy outfielder also played his best during the 5A state championship run. In 7 playoff games and 21 AB's Anderson hit .523 in the playoffs accounting for 9 runs, 2HR, and 7RBI's. Cole was a PBR All Colorado Selection last spring.

Logan Soole, LHP/OF, Monarch, 2015 (Ranked No. 11 in 2015 Class) The 6-foot, 185-pounder recently committed to Southern Illinois. Soole has thrown in mid 80's off mound.  From outfield throws in upper 80's to low 90's. Wide, slightly crouched stance with good bat speed. Has level swing through zone producing good power.

Taylor Williams, RHP, Douglas County, 2015 (Ranked No.14 in 2015 Class) The 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed pitcher from Douglas County High School recently committed to Xavier University. Williams had a solid junior season making 11 appearances, collecting 4 wins and 37 strikeouts.  The upper 80's pitcher will be counted on heavily to lead Douglas County through a tough Continental League and position them for a spot in post season play.

Kyle Winkler, 3B, Chatfield, 2015 (Ranked No.12 in 2015 Class) The 6-foot-1, 195-pound third baseman who has been an anchor for the Chatfield Chargers baseball team has committed to Miami of Ohio to continue his baseball career.  The two-sport varsity letter winner still has some unfinished business on the football field this fall and on the diamond this spring.  Winkler who helped lead the Chargers into the final 8 last year looks to build upon his experience as a junior and make a statement as a senior.

Jacob Thiessen, RHP, Sterling, 2015 (Ranked No. 19 in 2015 Class): 6-foot-4, 205-pound RHP with strong athletic frame and big upside. Currently is throwing in mid 80's (84-86) with a lot of potential to add more velocity. From small town Sterling, Thiessen recently committed to Indian Hills C.C.

Pete McEvoy, SS, Pine Creek, 2015 (Ranked No. 22 in 2015 Class): The 6-foot-3, 168-pound short stop from Pine Creek made a big splash in the state of Colorado when he committed to Stanford University. McEvoy, who will star for Pine Creek this spring as a senior, has spent this fall playing for Slammers Zavaras and representing Colorado baseball across the country.  McEvoy will look to build on a junior spring that saw him collect 2nd team Al-Conference honors and return Pine Creek deep into the post season.

Wyatt Aaberg, RHP/3B, Falcon, 2015 (Ranked No. 28 in 2015 Class): 6-0, 190-pounder recently committed to Indian Hills Community College. With mid-80's fastball that jumps out at you, in 17 innings of work for the Falcons last spring Aaberg had 25 K's and an ERA of 2.10. Also a solid 3B, Aaberg hit .386 and led his team in hits and doubles as a junior. 

Will Dixon, RHP, Mountain Vista, 2015: 6-4, 220-pounder recently committed to Colorado Mesa University. Dixon will be the anchor for the Golden Eagles staff in 2015. Throwing a mid 80's fastball Dixon was 6-0 as a staring pitcher last season. With a 2.08 ERA Dixon pitched 40 innings and struck out 41 batters. Dixon also helped lead Mountain Vista to 5A Final Four appearance.

Cody Heuer, RHP, Fossil Ridge, 2015:  6-4, 180-pounder recently committed to playing baseball at Wichita State. Heuer as a junior used a lower to mid 80's fastball to anchor the Fossil Ridge staff. Heuer threw 38 innings and struck out 58 while posting a 5-1 record. He will look to repeat his success this spring.

Tyce Oneil, LHP, ThunderRidge, 2015: The 6-foot-3, 165-pounder left handed senior pitcher for ThunderRidge recently committed to Southern Nevada. Oneil got his feet wet last year with 6 appearances. This year, O'Neill will be a mainstay in the Grizzlies pitching rotation, the 82-84 mph throwing tall lefty will be counted on heavily to continue the winning ways of this tradition rich program. 

Josh Ramirez, RHP, Green Mountain, 2015: 6-foot-2, 180-pounder recently committed to Washburn University. The big right-hander from Green Mountain High School was a key part of their 2014 4A State Championship run.  Ramirez who logged 69.2 innings last year and recorded 11 wins and 66 strikeouts, will look to build upon those numbers when the Rams take the field this spring.

2016

Bo Weiss, RHP, Regis Jesuit, 2016: 6-foot-2, 160-pounder, son of former MLB player Walt Weiss and current head coach of the Rockies is starting to make some noise and gain a lot of interest. Weiss recently committed to North Carolina. Closer for Slammers 16U Black team this summer, Weiss touched 90 at the end of the summer. Weiss has a lean frame that is highly projectable once he fills out. Look for Weiss to be a key contributor for the returning Continental League Champions and 2014 5A State Finalists.
