PBR All Colorado Team: Catchers

By John Cackowski
Director of Scouting

PBR Colorado will be presenting the PBR All-Colorado Team over the course of the next week. Players chosen for the PBR All-Colorado Team are players that not only performed well during the season, helped their team have success on the field, but also were seen in front of the PBR Colorado scouting staff in the form of a past PBR Colorado events or a game. We kicked off the PBR All-Colorado team with the Outfield. Today we will continue with the catchers.

Casey Opitz C / Heritage, CO / 2017

The last of a great line of Opitz brothers graduated this year for Heritage which no doubt will be hard to replace for the Eagles. The switch hitting catcher who is committed to Arkansas has been the quarterback for the Eagles for 4 years. A solid offensive player hitting .410 while driving in RBI's in 2017, but where Opitz is elite is behind the dish. This year only 13 runners attempted a stolen base off Opitz in 2017 with 2 making it safely. In Opitz high school career only 10 of 37 players who attempted to steal a bag off Opitz made it safely. In a game against Rock Canyon this year Opitz backed pick a different runner at 1B, 2B, and 3B. Opitz was also drafted in the 27th Round (#822 overall) by the Cleveland Indians.

Noah Kuzma C / 3B / Valor Christian, CO / 2018

6-0, 190 pounds. Bats and throws right. Kuzma had a great offensive year in 2017 helping lead the Valor Christian Eagles to repeat as 4A State Champions. Kuzma hit .459 on the season leading the Eagles in RBI's (33), Doubles (8), Triples (4) and Homeruns (4). Kuzma has been on the Eagles varsity roster since his freshman year, and will be a big part of helping the Eagles go for a 3-Peat in 2018.
