PBR Colorado Spotlight Game: D'Evelyn at Green Mountain

Lakewood, CO - D'Evelyn 2 Green Mountain 1

Going into the season the consensus was the road to the 4A State Championship was through Green Mountain. On Thursday D'Evelyn proved it might be through them as 2016 LHP Cameron Brown had one of the most dominating pitching performances the state has seen this spring.

Brown and senior Trace Mullberry dueled it out on the mound, and Mullberry was almost equally as impressive. Through the first two innings both pitchers struck out 5 of the first 6 hitters they faced. In the top of the 3rd senior Jaguar Grant Witherspoon hit a mammoth 2-Run bomb to right center to take a 2-0 lead. In the top of the 4th senior Josh Ramirez would lead off with a single and would be manufactured around, being driven in by junior Jeremy Whorton on a fielders choice to make the score 2-1.

Unfortunately that would be the only run for the Rams. Brown would take it from there only giving up 3 hits in a complete game effort striking out 14 batters. Mullberry would also pitch a complete game striking out 10 batters, but would give up one more run in the 7th on a bases loaded, 2-out walk that would seal the deal for the Jaguars.

Up next for both teams will be the district playoffs. The Jaguars ended up an impressive 18-1 on the season, and will be one of top 3 seeds in the 4A playoffs and district host. The Rams finished the year 13-6, and they should be a top 15 seed in the 4A district playoffs.
