3A State Championship

Game Recap

Going in to the day the Eaton Reds were looking for their 11th program state championship, and with a 25-0 record having to be beaten twice by Brush it seemed pretty clear the day was going to one and out. Then the unthinkable happened, Eaton lost the first game 4-3 to Brush, and as anyone knows anything can happen in a game 7.

In what was now a single elimination 3A championship game, senior 2015 RHP and New Mexico Junior College commit Ryan Koehler would toe the rubber for the last time in his high school career, and he would make sure the Reds would not be denied.  2016 SS Matt Burkart would get the Reds rolling by driving in 2015 Otero commit Lane Greinman to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Brush would answer with a run themselves, but Greinman would come up again and drive 2016 Dalton Lind in the top of the 3rd to take a 2-1 lead, and North Eastern J.C. commit Brady Tedesco would follow with a 2 run double to push the lead to 4-1. After another 2-run single by Tedesco driving in 2016 Joseph Mondragon, and Lind again, Koehler would have plenty of support and would hold the Beetdiggers scoreless the rest of the way securing the Reds 11th program state championship and finish the year a very impressive 26-1, and padding to the highest winning percentage of any program over the last 25 year in the country.
