Q&A with Metro State Commit No. 34 2015 Aaron Germani

By Jeff Markle
Assistant State Director

PBR Colorado is continuing it's look at committed players and recently we had a chance to catch up with the No. 34 PBR Colorado ranked player in 2015 and Metro State commit, Aaron Germani.  One of the top Centerfielders in the state, he had 45 putouts last year and collected 26 hits at the plate, Germani will once again look to be the spark for a ThunderRidge team that is eying a deep run into may.

PBR: Why did you choose Metro State?germani

Germani:  I chose Metro because I felt like it was the best possible choice for me. For one I love Colorado and don't really want to leave its a great state to live in and I am lucky that I get to stay here. Also I have had the greatest support I could ever ask for from my parents and I love when they come to my games, and this way they will be able to make it to a lot of my games which is really important to me. And lastly I really liked the campus and really like coach Oates and I just felt at home when I went to visit the campus and meet with coach. I could only see positives about choosing to go to Metro and I am really excited to go there next year!

PBR: Where did Metro State first see you compete?

Germani:  Metro first saw me out at a couple of my high school games. They also saw me at the area code try-outs this past year and eventually they saw me at a few summer tournaments too.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Germani:  The coaches expect me to come out and compete for a starting job in my freshman year. I am in no way guaranteed a starting position, but if I come out and perform well and show that I am capable of starting then I could have a chance to start my freshman year.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Metro State?

Germani:  I feel that my biggest strength as a player is my ability to get on base. I like to work the count and get pitches I know I can handle. I don't chase bad pitches too often and I also draw a good amount of walks along with hit by pitches. I feel that if I can get on base a lot for them I can create a lot of opportunities to score runs and help the team win games.

PBR:  What advice would you give about the recruiting process?

Germani:  My advice would to be to just promote yourself in a good way and make sure to just play the game the right way all the time. What I learned is that someone is always watching you. Always. If you just relax and play the game hard and just go all out every game, hustle, and have fun someone will notice you. There is nothing a coach loves more than a player respecting the game and just playing to your full ability game in and game out. I got many compliments from college coaches about the way I play the game, and I feel that it is the best way to get yourself noticed.

PBR:  What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Germani:  The most memorable baseball moment I have is definitely winning the Colorado state championship my sophomore year. I shared time with a senior that year but I got the start in the championship game. That was the most fun I have ever had playing the game. The stands were filled and the atmosphere was electric. I got to go to battle with some of the best players I have ever played with in my life. It was a battle the whole game and we eventually pulled it out in the late innings. And I will tell you what, I have never been more excited in my life when we made that final out. Being in that dog-pile at the end of the game and holding that trophy with those guys was definitely the best baseball moment I have experienced. And I will remember it forever.

PBR:  What would you say are your best assets both on and off the field that will help your team this year?

Germani:  I feel that my best assets both on and off the field would be my ability to connect with my teammates and people around me. And because of this I believe that I can help the team this year create a sense of family. And I feel that if I can help us do that this year, and help establish the idea to play for the guy next to you not just for yourself, that our team will play together as a unit and we will be a very tough team to stop this year. I want to help this team as much as I can because I love my guys and I am so excited to play my last season of high school ball with them. They are my brothers and this season can't come soon enough.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Germani:  The person who has made the biggest impact on my baseball life has definitely been my dad. He has brought me up and shared his love for the game with me basically since the day I was born. I know he had me hitting off a little tee since I was about two years old. And ever since then he could not get the bat out of my hands. He has taught me everything I know about the game and has been there to support me no matter what. He has been my biggest fan and is there for me no matter what. He gives me the best advice about the game and I am so thankful to have a man like him in my life to be there for me the way he has been.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience?

Germani:  I played for Team Colorado over summer. My most exciting experience this past summer though would probably be getting invited to play for the sunbelt team this year. we got to go to Oklahoma and play some of the best kids from different states. the competition out there was great and we also got to stay with host families from Oklahoma which made the experience one to remember. the families treated us like family and took us to do a ton of different things with them. They are now like a second family to me and thanks to that tournament I got to meet a lot of new people and have an experience I will remember forever.

PBR:  What would you say are your best assets on and off the field that will help your team next year?

Germani:  I would have to say that the asset that I have that I think will help Metro the most next year would have to be my love for the game and my work ethic. I will be out there grinding with them everyday and they can count on me to put in my best effort in everything we do. And I can hold other people accountable which helps us all get better. And because of that I believe I can help the team just get better everyday.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter you have faced in Colorado?

Germani:  The toughest pitcher I have ever faced from Colorado would probably be Ryan Madden from Fairview High School. The kid just deals. Throws hard and it is always a battle whenever you step in the box against him. I have a great deal of respect for him and hope we possibly get to face him this season.

PBR: What are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Germani:  For this year I want to have an average of at least .400, have 20 stolen bases, and an on base percentage of .500. For the team this year my biggest goal is to win state. I think my team is going to be tough this year and I think we could go a long way in the playoffs this year. We just need to stay focused and play for each other. If we can do that there is no doubt in my mind that we can end up in All-City Field holding that trophy again.
