As we wrap up 2016, Prep Baseball Report Colorado is ready to hit the ground running for 2017 with two major events.  The Underclass Invitational event at Slammers South will take take place on January 29th. Over the coming weeks, PBR Colorado will introduce you to 2019 and 2020 players who have committed to this event.  Continuing  our look is 2019, RHP, Kellen Cox of Fruita Monument High School.

PBR:  Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:
Weaver:  I am a 6' RHP and 1st baseman with long legs and room to grow. I challenge batters on the mound with lots of strikes and hard to hit off speed pitches. I am a hard out to get at the plate and will battle until success. As a baseball player I see myself as an enthusiastic player that is never condescending and always wanting others to reach their best potential. I try to get along as best as I can with all of my teammates and be a player others want to be in the presence of. I try my hardest on each play and turn the page when things don't go my way.

PBR:  What would be your dream school to play baseball at?  If you have already committed to play at the next level, why did you choose that particular school?
Weaver:  My dream college to play baseball at would be Texas Christian University.

PBR:  What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?
Weaver:  My best assets on the field would be being a team player doing whatever is needed by the coach, whether it's executing a bunt or hitting a sac fly. I'm just a competitive player in the sport who always wants to compete with others to prove myself. My best assets off the field would be taking great pride in my school work maintaining a 3.8 GPA currently and always striving for achievement in school.

PBR:  What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?
Weaver:  The best advice I have learned comes from my Father who played at the college and minor league level who taught me the 3 words of Attitude, Effort, and Hustle. These 3 guideline words have helped me reach new heights and sports and as well as in my life. These 3 simple words have been applied to my everyday life that have led my success both on and off the field.

PBR: What does your off-season routine look like to prepare for the upcoming season?
Weaver:  In the offseason, as I am also a multi sport athlete I play football which leads to everyday weight lifting and year round conditioning. I am also in the cages all winter taking lots of swings and working on lots of drills. I try to maintain a healthy diet as well.

PBR:  What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?
Weaver:  I don't really have any superstitions in baseball as of right now. As far as my routine, I try to stay in the same rhythm each game and mentally prepare before each one starts.

PBR:  What are your goals for:

This Season: To be a contributing pitcher on the varsity level.

Two Years:   To be the ace of the staff and make all state 4A.

Four Years:  To be playing in a 4 year college or just finishing up my sophomore year at a junior college.
