Q&A with University of Kansas Commit: Blake Goldsberry

By Jeff Markle
Assistant State Director

PBR Colorado is continuing it's look at committed players, last week saw a very impressive group of 2015 players sign Letters of Intent to play baseball at the next level.  As the week came to an end, we had a chance to catch up with the No. 16 PBR Colorado ranked player in 2015 and University of Kansas commit, Blake Goldsberry.  A solid junior year at third base will give way to a senior year where Goldsberry will take the mound in hopes to continue to add to the Bruins baseball legacy.  The 6-foot-4, 180-pound RHP spent the fall pitching against some of the best talent in the country.  That experience will serve him well as he prepares to face the top players in the state.

PBR: Why did you choose the University of Kansas?Blake Goldsberry

Goldsberry:  I chose Kansas because the coaching staff and players were very welcoming. The facilities are top notch and I wanted an opportunity to pitch in the big 12.

PBR: Where did Kansas first see you compete?

Goldsberry:  In Arizona this fall at the scout team showcase.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Goldsberry:  To go in and compete for innings.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Kansas?

Goldsberry:  I am a strike thrower and keep the defense involved, hopefully my pitching will keep our team in games.

PBR:  What advice would you give about the recruiting process?

Goldsberry:  Just to be patient. Don’t jump at the first offer. Go somewhere where they truly want you.

PBR:  What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Goldsberry:  Beating Thunderridge in the state tournament last year.

PBR:  What would you say are your best assets both on and off the field that will help your team this year?

Goldsberry:  Hope to take on more of a leadership role this year and my willingness to help younger players.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Goldsberry:  I would have to say my dad. He has always been there to teach me the game.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience?

Goldsberry:  Cherry Creek 18’s. The best experience was playing in the AABC regionals in Enid Oklahoma.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter you have faced in Colorado?

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter you have faced in Colorado?

Goldsberry:  Pitcher Brent Schwarz from Regis.

PBR: What are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
