Q&A with Washburn Commit Josh Ramirez Green Mountain High School

By Jeff Markle
Assistant State Director of Scouting

PBR Colorado is continuing it's look at committed players and recently we had a chance to catch up with Washburn Commit, Josh Ramirez.  The big right hander from Green Mountain High School was a key part of their 2014 State Championship run.  Ramirez who logged 69.2 innings last year and recorded 11 wins and 66 strikeouts, will look to build upon those numbers when the Rams take the field this spring.

PBR: Why did you choose Washburn?

Ramirez:  I chose Washburn because it felt like the place I was going succeed to my fullest.  Also just felt as if I belonged there.

PBR: Where did Washburn first see you compete?

Ramirez:  They had first seen me compete on an online recruiting video that was filmed during a live game.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Ramirez:  The coaches expect me to come in and be effective right away.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Washburn?

Ramirez:  My biggest strength is the will to win in any situation without backing down to anyone or anything.

PBR:  What advice would you give about the recruiting process?

Ramirez:  I would recommend to stay on top and if a coach calls don't wait for them to call back you've got to put yourself out there to let the colleges know that you're interested in them as well.

PBR:  What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Ramirez:  My most memorable baseball moment was in this last years spring by winning the 4A State Championship.

PBR:  Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Ramirez:  The biggest impact as a baseball player in my father for being able to push me and help me become who I am today.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience?

Ramirez:  In the summer I played for Davy Jones baseball and the best experience during that was winning the Gonzaga mid-summer Classic.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Colorado?

Ramirez:  Brian Meek from Niwot

PBR: What are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Ramirez:   Individually want to lead the state in wins again and as a team to make it to the final four and repeat as State Champions.
