This past weekend at the Hylands Hills Sports Complex and Brighton Sports Complex 35 of the best 12U D1, 13U D1, 13 D2, and 14 D2 teams in the state competed in the PBR Colorado Spring Invitational. 12D1  SPRING INVITATIONAL SEMI-FINALS AND CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP

Semi-Finals: Slammers Bauers 5 - Colorado Khaos Navy 4

Slammers Bauer took home a 5-4 victory over CO Khaos Navy on Sunday. CO Khaos 12U Navy got things started in the first inning when Luke Shotwell homered on a 3-0 count, scoring two runs to take an early lead. 

Slammers Bauer, down 3-0 in the bottom of the 3rd, tallied three runs. led by 2024 SS Grant Shepardson2024 RHP Joel Cackowski, and 2024 3B Tyler Naha, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Coming in relief in the 2nd inning, Cackowski would keep Slammers Bauer in the game pitching 3.2 innings giving up 2 hits, and 1 run getting the win, and Shepardson would pitch the last inning for the save

Slammers Bauer racked up nine hits in the contest. 2023 3B Trevor Severson and  2023 C Payton Nowell each had multiple hits for Slammers Bauer 

 

Finals: Slammers Bauers 5 - Brighton Burn 3

 Down for most of the game, Slammers Bauer snagged a late lead rallying to score 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and defeated Brighton Burn 5-3 on Sunday.

The game was tied at two with Slammers Bauer  batting in the bottom of the fifth when 2024 2B Aidan Krantz doubled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs.

Shepardson started the game, and lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out five.

2024 OF Ethan Olson, Nowell, Cackowski, Shepardson, Naha, and Krantz each collected one hit to lead Slammers Bauer

On the year Slammers Bauer improves to 17 and 7. 

GRANT SHEPARDSONSS / C / MOUNTAIN VISTA HIGH SCHOOL, CO / 2024

5-foot-3, 95 pounds. Bats and throws right. On the mound has clean, fluid motion for his age. Comes from high 3/4 arm slot. Lands inline towards the plate with good extension. Strike thrower, and ball jumps on batter. Fastball lives 61-63 mph touching 64. On the day pitched 6 innings giving up 2 runs, giving up 3 hits while striking out 8 batters registering a save and a win. At the plate has a balanced stance. Level swing through the zone with gap to gap power. On the weekend was 4 for 10 with 6 RBI's. Has speed on the bases. 12U Junior Futures Games Invitee. 

 

 

JOEL CACKOWSKIRHP / 1B / ARAPAHOE, CO / 2024

5-foot-4, 95 pounds. Bats and throws right. On the mound has long lanky frame. Throws from 3/4 arm slot. Tall in balance point from modified stretch windup. Lands inline and square towards plate with good reach and extension. Fastball lives 61-63 touching 64 mph. On the day pitched 3.2 innings in relief giving up 2 hits and one run to get the win, and the previous day pitched 3 shutout innings striking out 3 to get the win as well. At the plate has tall, slightly open stance. Line drive hitter gap to gap. Uses whole field. Patient at the plate and a good hitter with 2 strikes. On the weekend was 7 for 11 with 6 RBI's and 2 doubles. Junior Futures invitee. 

 

TYLER NAHA3B / RHP / MACAULIFFE MS, CO / 2024

5-foot-8, 115 pounds. Bats and throws right. DH this weekend after coming off arm injury. Tall for his age. Stands tall at plate with balanced stance. Slight uphill swing. Pull side power with good lower half. Good extension through the baseball. Runs well. On the weekend was 3 for 10 with 4 RBI's. Junior Futures invitee. 

 

 

AIDAN KRANTZSS / RHP / MCAULIFFE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, CO / 2024

5-foot, 80 pounds. Bats and throws right. Athletic player who can do a lot of things for you. Plays 2B, OF, C, and pitches. At the plate has slight crouch, balanced stance. Swing is short and slightly uphill. Ball can jump off bat when solid contact is made. Came in relief in tough bases loaded situation with two-run lead and only out and pitched out of jam striking out one for the save. Arm is quick and works well from high 3/4 arm slot. FB lives 59-61 mph. Athletic motion, lands slightly closed to create deception. Was 3 for 9 with 4 RBI's. Junior Futures invitee

 

 

TREVOR SEVERSON3B / RHP / LEGEND, CO / 2023

5-foot-6, 140 pounds. Bats and throws right. At the plate has tall stance. Short stride with slightly uphill swing. Solid contact hitter who uses both sides of field. Line drive hitter. On the mound has simple delivery with good extension to he plate. Throws from high 3/4 arm slot. Hitters don't barrel ball off him. Threw CG on Saturday giving up 4 runs striking out 5. Also showcased soft hands at 3B coming up with some key plays in big moments. At the plate was 6 for 9 with 3 RBI's and double on the weekend. 

 

 

PAYTON NOWELL2B / RHP / DENVER, CO / 2023

5-foot-2, 95 pounds. Bats and throws right. Demonstrates raw power at the plate. Stands tall with narrow stance. Short stride to ball. Lets ball get deep in zone and uses strong wrists for gap to gap power. Ball jumps off bat with solid contact. Good runner. As a catcher works real hard with strong arm to 2B. Athletic player. Was 6 for 11 with 4 RBI's on the weekend with 3 triples on the weekend. 

 

 

ETHAN OLSON1B / COLORADO SPRINGS, CO / 2024

5-foot, 95 pounds. Bats and throws right. At the plate stands open and balanced. Closes down on stride with pull side power with good extension through the baseball. Shows patience at the plate demonstrated by 7 walks on the weekend. At the plate was 6 for 10 with 3 RBI's.
