Silver Creek beats Northridge 2-1

By PBR Staff

LONGMONT - When the Silver Creek Raptors have Cole Winn on the mound, they have gotten used to saying automatic win. The Northridge Grizzlies, coming in with a 10-1 record themselves had different ideas, and behind the strong effort of junior Chance Eben, the Grizzlies almost pulled off a win.

The Grizzlies would jump on Winn and the Raptors first in the top of the first inning on an rbi single by Taylor Aguilar, the 6-foot-1 190 left-handed hitting sophomore stroked a hard single up the middle scoring junior CF Kaylor Werner, who had singled up the middle to start the game.

The Raptors would respond in the bottom of the first with the benefit of a 2-out RBI double from Cade Call

The game would stay tied through the 6th. But the Raptors would have a scare in the top of the 5th, but Winn would leave two Grizzly runners on base pitching out of a jam.

Silver Creek scored the winning run when junior Travis Bicknell doubled to left in the bottom of the 6th inning to allow the go ahead run to score.

Winn was relieved in the 6th and 7th by Nick Giambirasi who did an outstanding job of closing the game with a 78 mph fastball and a 64-65 mph breaking ball, (big, looping curveball), pitched out of a jam in the top of the 7th when there were runners on 1st and third when the final out was on a flyball to centerfield to earn the win.

Righthanded junior Chance Eben went the distance for Northridge and pitched well   The  6-foot-4 190 pound RHP worked ahead of hitters and pitched to contact and allowed his defense to work, quality outing to only give up two runs on the game.

Silver Creek improves to 9-5 on the season, and Northridge is now 10-2. Both teams will meet again on Saturday at Northridge.
