ThunderRidge Defeats Highlands Ranch

By John Cackowski
State Director

HIGHLANDS RANCH - In 2014 the Highlands Ranch Falcons and the ThunderRidge Grizzlies started a tradition similar to what MLB does in honoring Jackie Robinson where every player on the field wears the number 42. On Friday the league rivals continued this tradition, with the Grizzlies outfitted in a kelly-green 42 jersey, and the Falcons wore a royal blue 42 jersey. The Grizzlies would get a strong effort from senior RHP Quincy Ulrich to help lead the Grizzlies to a 8-1 victory.

The Grizzlies would jump on the Falcons early in the bottom of the 1st inning with RBI singles from senior Jason Hall with a 2-out, bases loaded single driving in 2-runs. Then in the bottom of the 2nd, senior Reese Lansville would double to drive in the 3rd run. Hall would again double in the 3rd driving in another run making the score 4-0. The Grizzlies would end up scoring a run in every inning.

That is all Ulrich would need. Ulrich would pitch 6.1 innings scattering 7 hits striking out 6 with no walks. His only hiccup was giving up a solo home run to sophomore Zack Medina.

The Grizzlies improve to 7-4 overall and  3-0 in the Continental League and next play on Monday 4-17-17 at home against Mountain Vista. The Falcons fall to 6-5 on the season and 1-2 in the Continental League. They next play a non-league game at Dakota Ridge on the same day.
