Top 60 Times:

Braden Smith, OF, Lakewood, 2016
60 Time: 6.60
Commitment: Uncommitted
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder impressed with legitimate physical athletic ability.  Hits from a balanced athletic setup, hands load back smoothly, creating good separation. Has leg kick that he gets down early and shows explosion with his lower half. Bat speed is fast with a short path and good extension producing line drive gap-gap power producing 81 mph exit velocity off the tee.  Threw 75 mph from the outfield from long, loose, high ¾ arm slot with good hands, playing through the baseball aggressively when fielding. Showed exceptional range in center, while also throwing a runner out at home during the games. Impressed everyone with running a 6.60 and 6.72 60. Athletic outfielder had a good day 2 going 2-2 with a 4.21 home to first time.

Frankie Shearn, OF, Columbine, 2018

Scouting Report: A 5-foot-11, 163-pound, right-hand hitting two-way player. Ran the fastest 60 time at the event at 6.67.  In the outfield, he is aggressive on all balls and gets into good position using his speed.  A long arm produced a 70 MPH velocity with accurate throws through the cut.  Behind the plate he blocks well and receives pitches with soft hands.  He had pop-times of 2.27 and 2.30.  At the plate he has a simple approach with a short stride and slight hand load.  He shows good weight transfer through the zone and hits off his front side.  He had a 71 MPH exit velocity at this event.

Top Outfield Arm Velocities

Tanner Johnson, OF/RHP, Chatfield 2016
OF Velo: 90

Throws were somewhat accurate but shows a very strong arm from right. At the plate he was consistent gap to gap with an 84 mph exit velocity off a pitcher. On the mound fastball was increased from 81 to 84 mph with long/loose arm action, high ¾ arm slot with good command of both sides of the plate.  Drops arm slot to more 3/4 on off speed pitches. Curveball was 72-73 mph with 10/6 gradual break.

Eric Cox, OF, Cherokee Trail, 2017
OF Velo: 88

Scouting Report: 5-foot-11, 200 pounds. Bats and throws right. Cox is a strong muscular outfielder. At the plate he utilizes an open stance with a toe tap that generates a bat whip good for 88 mph exit velo off the tee. Could generate more bat speed if he used legs more. Ball jumps off bat. Had a strong arm from the outfield at 88 mph. Cox showed good base running instincts plus speed on the bases. Cox ran a 7.09 60 time. We like his potential and athletic ability. When he learns to use lower half more in his swing he could show some good power potential.

Top Exit Velocities:

Tanner O'Tremba, OF/RHP, Cherry Creek, 2018
Exit Velocity: 97
Commitment:  Uncommitted
Scouting Report: 6-foot, 210 pounds. Bats and throws right. O'Tremba is a very explosive player. Looks like a full back and plays the game extremely hard. O'Tremba uses a slightly open stance and has an explosive swing. He can keeps his hands back, and also turn on a fastball. Has a big load, and uses leg kick to start a swing that is explosive on contact that generated an impressive 97 mph exit velocity off a tee. Has gap to gap power. In the outfield has a lot of speed for his size, and proved it with a 6.87 60 time. Strong arm at 84 mph. On the mound was consistently 85-86 mph with a high of 88, and he just chose to blow his fastball by the hitters this weekend. In games in the spring we have seen curve ball with 11/5 shape at 67 mph. Hides the ball well, and is square to the plate then falls off towards first base side after landing with strong leg drive. Very high player to follow.

That was evident with a 96 mph exit velo off the tee. To and through the ball, and upper and lower half work well together. Defensively plays through the baseball, shows athleticism. Ran a 60 in 7.21 seconds.  Arm played well from the outfield with a short over the top slot, with accuracy, at 79 mph which was up 5 mph from last January. On the mound fastball still sits at 76-78 mph from a 3/4 arm slot, simple, effortless repeatable delivery. Smooth easy effort delivery keeps him square to the plate with a long and loose arm. Delivered pitches from both an over the top slot as well as a high slot. Fastball was 87-88 with one at 90. Snavely's ball has run and good down angle. A 70-72 MPH curve had 12/6 rotation with gradual break. Curveball was thrown consistently for strikes. Changeup was thrown at 76-78 MPH change, and was thrown more at same arm speed as fastball since the last time we saw him. Snavely is very projectable, and looks effortless when he throws.

Square delivery, athletic rhythm and balance, easy effort, closed landing, repeats well. Arm action is clean, long arm action, high ¾ slot. Curveball has 11/5 plane, slurve action, landed for strikes, good control, 73-74 mph. Changeup has sink, good control and feel for the pitch, 75-76 mph. Weiss showed excellent three pitch feel, high ceiling projects well at the next level, can pound the zone with multiple pitches and change speeds. As a hitter Sloan has legitmate raw gap to gap power backed up with an 88 mph exit velo off the tee. Sloan is a little tight in his load, but swing is level through the zone with good extension through ball. A little bit off balance at times in lower half, and like pitching has more untapped potential with legs. Projects as a solid clean-up or 3-hole hitter as he continues to polish himself up. Also was the fastest runner at the event with a 4.19 home to first time from the right side.

Top LHP Fastball Velocities:

Austin Alarid, LHP/1B Rocky Mountain 2016
FB Velocity: 86
Commitment: Eastern Arizona
Scouting Report: 6-foot-0, 200 pound left-handed hitting 1B/ LHP.  In the field, he uses short arm action to reach a top velocity of 80 MPH. Decent feet and hands allow him to get into his throwing position quickly and he delivers an accurate ball. Moves well for size.  At the plate, uses a balanced set up with slight inward knee turn for load and timing.  Short hands to the ball with good extension out front at contact.  92 MPH exit velocity off the tee which was top time at the tryout.  High one handed finish. Really attacks the ball.  On the mound, compact in line delivery with over the top arm action.  Fastball increased to 84-85 since we saw him in March, and touched 86 twice.  Good command of the outside part of the plate with a 70-73 CB and 72-73 CH.  Ran a 8.06 60 time.

Brice Johnson, LHP, Pine Creek 2016
FB Velocity: 86
Commitment: Creighton
Scouting Report: 6-foot-6, 185-pound left-handed pitcher with room to grow. Every time we see Johnson we like him more. Still a little raw, but projectable LHP with a smooth motion with level shoulder, square landing and athletic finish. Was more in line, and not opening up front knee on landing as much. Gets great extension towards plate.  Arm is long and quick and delivery comes from a high ¾ arm slot.  Easy effort to the plate produced and increased fastball of 85-86 MPH fastball with slight tail and good command of the zone.  Threw a slider this time that sat 75 mph with late tilt.  Change was thrown with FB arm action with good sink down in the zone also at 75 MPH. Again another highly projectable pitcher, especially when looking at frame.
