Our first analysis of the event focused on the catchers. Today we focus on a good crop of outfielders.

Outfield Analysis: Best of the Best

Tanner O'Tremba, OF/RHP, Cherry Creek, 2018
6-foot, 210 pounds. Bats and throws right. O'tremba is a very explosive player. Looks like a full back and plays the game extremely hard. O'tremba uses a slightly open stance and has an explosive swing. He can keeps his hands back, and also turn on a fastball. Has a big load, and uses leg kick to start a swing that is explosive on contact that generated an impressive 97 mph exit velocity off a tee. Has gap to gap power. In the outfield has a lot of speed for his size, and proved it with a 6.87 60 time. Strong arm at 84 mph. On the mound was consistently 85-86 mph with a high of 88, and he just chose to blow his fastball by the hitters this weekend. In games in the spring we have seen curve ball with 11/5 shape at 67 mph. Hides the ball well, and is square to the plate then falls off towards first base side after landing with strong leg drive. Very high player to follow. Was voted best 2018 prospect of the event.

Luke Kuberski, OF/RHP, Green Mountain, 2017
6-foot-1, 185-pound outfielder. We have seen Kuberski a lot and love his raw power. He has advanced overall strength with power potential in bat. Offensively hits from a tall now open athletic stance, soft med stride, high hands and back elbow setup. Gets good separation back in load and has explosive bat speed. That was evident with a 96 mph exit velo off the tee. To and through the ball, and upper and lower half work well together. Defensively plays through the baseball, shows athleticism. Ran a 60 in 7.21 seconds.  Arm played well from the outfield with a short over the top slot, with accuracy, at 79 mph which was up 5 mph from last January. On the mound fastball still sits at 76-78 mph from a 3/4 arm slot, simple, effortless repeatable delivery. Gets good extension and is square to plate. 64-65 mph breaking ball showed gradual break, 66-67 mph changeup had a little sink.

Eric Cox, OF, Cherokee Trail, 2017
5-foot-11, 200 pounds. Bats and throws right. Cox is a strong muscular outfielder. At the plate he utilizes an open stance with a toe tap that generates a bat whip good for 88 mph exit velo off the tee. Could generate more bat speed if he used legs more. Ball jumps off bat. Had a strong arm from the outfield at 88 mph. Cox showed good base running instincts plus speed on the bases. Cox ran a 7.09 60 time. We like his potential and athletic ability. When he learns to use lower half more in his swing he could show some good power potential. He was voted 2017 player with most tools at the event.

Best of the Rest (Listed Alphabetically)

Preston Askew, OF, Overland, 2018
5-foot-7, 135 pounds. Bats and throws right. Askew stars with a pretty wide open stance and medium stride. Has rhythm in his approach. Just needs to make sure he closes down front side. Bottom hand dominant. Quick hands and oppo hitter. Contact hitter, and patient at the plate. Could be a good lead-off hitter. Charges and goes back on the ball in outfield very well. Uses a short arm slot to throw 72 mph. Ran a 7.25 60.

Brock Bernall, OF/C, Pomona, 2018
5-foot-10, 155 pounds. Bats and throws right. Wide balanced stance, toe tap approach. Level swing through zone for line drives. Fast hips to inside pitch. Good looking athlete. Bat spreed produced an 82 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the outfield charges and goes back well on ball. Long over the top throwing slot was 78 mph. Ran a 7.06 60 which was one of the top 5 times a the event. Definitely has tools to work with.

Nick Caswell, OF, Littleton, 2018
5-foot-8, 125 pounds. Bats and throws right. Tall open stance with slight leg kick. Hands start high and nice load back. Hands move well towards ball. Sometimes opens hips up early which could cause a loss of power but nice level swing through zone. Gap hitter. Produced a 75 mph exit velocity. From the outfield has solid fundamentals, throws from high 3/4 slot at 82 mph. Ran a 7.30 60. Has some nice tools.
Quinton Clark, OF/1B, Sand Creek, 2018
5-foot-6, 165 pounds. Bats and throws left. Narrow balanced stance. Leg kick back. Needs to make sure he gets foot down early. Level swing, gap hitter. Has good lower half body potential. Produced a 67 mph exit velo off the tee. Charges ball well in outfield. Throws from a high 3/4 slot at 74 mph with long arm action. Ran a 7.50 60.

Tyson Cruickshank, OF/ ThunderRidge, 2018
5-foot-9, 120 pounds. Bats and throws right. Wide, slight open stance with medium leg kick. Level swing through zone, keeps hands on top through ball. Line drive hitter. Genrerated a 72 mph exit velocity. Solid fundamentals in outfield going back on ball and charging. Threw 75 mph from high 3/4 arm slot with loose arm. Ran a 7.65 60.

Derek Cunningham, OF/RHP, Boulder, 2017
6-foot-1, 185 pounds. Bats and throws right. Hands start high an back. Has a nice compact swing and goes to the opposite field well. Was explosive on contact. Gap to gap hitter. Has a solid exit velocity of 87 mph. In the outfield throws from a low 3/4 arm slot. Would like to see him get elbow up more. Threw 79 mph from outfield. Ran a 7.22 60. Has potential on the mound.  Square to the plate on delivery from same arm slot. Could use legs a litte more to generate more. Doesn't always come to a full balance point, but big frame and strong legs show potential. Fastball sat at 75-77 mph with a 65 mph change. Was name most raw 2017 talent at the event.

Blake Donels, 2017, Valor Christian High School, OF
5-foot-10, 185-pound prospect. Bats and throws right. Donels improved a 7.31 60 time in June to a 7.21 60.  Donels covers good ground in the outfield and charges ball well throwing 72 mph. At the plate he used an athletic slightly open stance. He has explosive bat speed through the zone with good extension through the ball. Gap to gap power generates a solid 91 mph exit velo off a tee. One of the top speeds in the event. If he can get arm velo up you have a very solid 2017 prospect to follow.

Ryker Eagen, OF/RHP, Evergreen, 2017
5-foot-11, 160 pounds. Bats and throws right. Eagen was one of the better athletes at the event and was voted 2017 player with the most tools. At the plate Eagen has a line drive swing that produces a 91 mph exit velo off the tee. Finishes with one hand.  He's all upper body and needs to get his lower half involved more. From the outfield he charges ball well and threw 75 mph, but his range is excellent. That is prevelant with 6.87 60 time. Eagen for sure has some tools to work with. He's a good athlete that needs to polish a few things up.

Thomas Fox, 2017, Bishop Machebeauf High School, OF/2B
The 5-foot-9, 180-pounds. Bats and throws right. Balanced, wide stance. Minimal load. Short and quick to the ball with a compact swing, strong lower half. Line drive, gap hitter. Produced a 81 mph exit velocity. From the outfield he threw 78 mph and showed good fluid movement to balls left and right. Ran a 7.70 60 time. Keeps improving every time we see him.

Garrett Gipson, 2017 Grandview High School, OF/3B
5-foot-9, 162-pounds. Bats and throws right. Has a balanced, even stance. Good frame with medium load and fast hands. Fluid hip torque. Contact, gap, line drive hitter. Produced a 80 mph exit velocity off of the tee. In the outfield shows range, and gains ground on balls. Solid fundamentals, throwing 75 mph from the outfield. Ran an event fastest 6.75 60. Player with a lot of tools.

Jason Hall, OF, ThunderRidge, 2017
5-foot-9, 150 pounds. Bats and throws right. Has open stance with a little crouch. Hands load smooth back and is short to the ball. Long through the ball. Keeps his hands inside the ball and goes the other way well. Produced a 82 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the outfield plays confident with good fundamentals. Threw 73 mph with accuracy. Ran a 7.30 60 time.

Hunter Parker, OF/RHP, Eaglecrest, 2017
6-foot, 150 pounds. Bats and throws right. Has a wide, open stance. Athletic. Level swing through the zone. Gets hands to inside pitch. Line drive gap hitter. Has nice pop in his bat. Hips torque on contact. Generates 78 mph exit velocity off tee. In the outfield had the strongest arm at 87 mph. Ran a 7.53 60. On the mound showed a good fastball that sat at 81-82 mph with some sink. Could generate more velocity but stops short a little on follow throw. Long loose arm action from high 3/4 arm angle.

Frankie Shearn, OF, Columbine, 2018
5-foot-11, 163 pounds. Bats and throws right. Shearn's biggest asset is his speed. Had the 2nd fastest 60 time at the event running a 6.85. We have had as fast as 6.72 before. Shearn is cleaning up a lot of his raw ability, and looked more fluid in the outfield. Shearn through 69 mph from the outfield. Has good range with his speed. Throws from an over the top arm slot. At the plate hits from a tall stance. Not much of a load, and uphill swing produces potential gap to gap power. Had a 75 mph exit velo off the tee.
