We started our break down of the Underclass Invitational by looking at the corners,  catchersoutfielders, and middle infielders. Today we cover the pitchers.

PITCHERS ANALYSIS: BEST OF THE BEST

Parker Gregory, RHP/OF, Pine Creek, 2019
6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Bats left throws right. Arm works free and easy and has quick hand speed. Pounded fastballs down in the zone and they jump at the plate. Steps across his body which leads to some natural cut at times. More velocity to come. Changeup works well. 11/5 slurve is a tight, out pitch with multi-plane break. Sharp at times and has a chance to be a swing and miss pitch. Was up to 86 mph, and you could expect him 88-89 by August. Threw entirely out of the stretch. Solid prospect and player to follow.

Cole Greer, RHP/OF, Douglas County, 2020

6-foot-1, 165 pounds. Bats and throws right. Square and inline to the plate then falls to 1B. Wiry frame, loose arm. Hides ball well. Throws from over the top arm slot because tilts spine. Would even be more effective if stayed square and come from high 3/4. Good velo for a 2020. Fastball lived at 79-82. Changeup and curveball lived at 70-71. Both same arm speed as fastball. Threw strikes. At the plate has open stance, short stride. Slight uphill swing, bottom hand finish. Gap to gap. Produced 85 mph exit velo off the tee. In the OF had solid fundamentals. Charged ball aggressively. Threw 77 mph. Ran a 4.6 home to first. Prospect to follow.

Calvin Hunt, RHP/3B, Ralston Valley, 2019
6-foot-3, 170 pounds. Bats and throws right. Lanky player. Projectable. Throws from over high 3/4 arm slot. Wraps back a little. Fastball lived between 82-84 mph and there is more there if hand is on top a little more. Lands inline then spins towards 1B. Curveball was 70 mph with 11-5 shape. Also threw a slider with late depth at 72 mph. Change was same arm speed as fastball at 76-77 mph. Nice prospect.

Iain Isdale, LHP/OF, Chaparral, 2019
6-foot-4, 167 pounds. Bats right throws left. Lanky, wiry frame. Could be scary if 25 pounds added. Pitched entirely out of stretch. Hides ball well. Short on back side then comes from over the top. Arm is loose and quick. Good extension to the plate. Inline then spins off a little on land towards 3rd. Fastball sat 81-83. Curveball and change thrown at same arm speed as fastball. Both were 68-69 mph. Curveball was 12/6. Change tailed into left handed hitter. Player to follow in 2019 class.

Ethan Frasier, RHP/3B, ThunderRidge, 2019
6-foot-1, 165 pounds. Bats and throws right. Strong pitcher. Has slow delivery then explodes towards plate. Good leg strength and extension. Throws from high 3/4 arm slot. Solid fastball between 83-85 mph. With off speed slows down body a little with both pitches. Curveball was 63 mph with 11/5 shape. Change was slow at 63 mph as well. Change could be in that 70 mph range if arm sped up. Solid prospect on the mound. At the plate has some good power potential. Wants to get pull happy at times but hit the ball real well in live round. Exit velocity was one of the top at the event at 92 mph off the tee. On defense showed good range at 3rd, soft hands, and strong arm across diamond at 84 mph. Ran a 4.31 home to first. Prospect to follow.

Tyler Richardson, LHP/1B, Elizabeth, 2019
6-foot-1, 160 pounds. Bats and throws left. Effortless windup that lands inline to plate. Arm is very quick as well. Solid frame and projectability to be a very good pitcher. Fast ball had some run, and was 80-81 mph. Hides ball well. Tough to pick up. Off speed pitcher have same arm speed with good variation of speeds. Change was 71-72 mph with some sink, and curve was 60-61 mph with 1/7 shape. Player to follow in our state.

Lucas Quezada, RHP, Denver School of the Arts, 2020

6-foot, 170 pounds. Bats left, throws right. Closer to 5-foot-10, but everything is super effortless, and he repeats it in an advanced manner given his age. Arm is quick, and he painted his fastball from side to side down in the zone. Fastball was 82-83 and it looked like he was just flipping it in. Stays linear. Threw a straight changeup with fastball arm speed for strikes and a slurve that took solid shape, but is still developing. Change was 74-75 mph. Curveball comes in at 70-72 with 10/4 shape. Solid prospect.

Patrick Strawbridge, RHP/1B, Regis Jesuit, 2019
6-foot-4, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. Very projectable player, and when he adds 20 pounds he can be special. Pitched primarily out of the stretch. Good pace on the mound. Comes from high 3/4 arm slot with slight tilt in spine. Stays straight and it's a nasty 3/4 arm slot. Arm is quick through the windup and works well with lower half. Fastball sat 78-79 mph, but there will be more there at some point. Would like to see some more variance in change. Came in at 75 mph. Curve sat at 68 with 11/5 shape.

PITCHERS ANALYSIS: BEST OF THE REST LISTED ALPHABETICALLY

Hunter Beindorff, RHP/SS, Valor Christian, 2020
5-foot-11, 150 pounds. Bats and throws right. Like the body type fora  pitcher. High hips. Going to grow. Attacks the plate. Solid foundation with mechanics. Square and inline to the plate. Gets good extension towards plate. Throws from high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball was 70-73 but played faster. Good arm speed on off-speed. Curve was 63-65 with 11/5 shape. Change up was a little fast at 69 mph. At the plate has a tall balanced stance. Slightly open. Slight leg kick. Good rotation on lower half. Swing is level through zone. Had solid live round. Sometimes get pull happy. Had good bat speed at 83 mph off a tee. Defensively was quick feet and quick hands. Release much shorter then on the mound. Gets rid of ball quick. Ran a 4.62 home to first. Player to follow.

Kailer Chance, RHP/OF, ThunderRidge, 2019
6-foot-2, 150 pounds. Bats and throws right. Very tall lanky, wiry frame. Interested to see what happens when he puts on another 25 pounds. Stands tall in the stretch and throws a high 3/4 arm slot. Gets good extension to the plate with stride and release. Fastball improved from last event sitting at 71-73. Good arm speed with off speed. Change sat at 62 mph with some fade. Curveball was 60-62. With added strength and weight intriguing prospect in our state.

Nick Englhard, LHP/OF, Mountain Vista, 2019
5-foot-10, 160 pounds. Bats and throws left. Starts in the stretch and goes to minimal windup. Works at a fast pace. Good extension towards plate. Strike thrower. Arm slot is over the top and fastball sat between 73-75 mph. Arm speed is the same on both change and curve. Change is a little harder at 69 mph. Curve is also faster at 66 mph. Can turn into solid left handed prospect.

Luke Folsom, RHP/OF, Columbine, 2020
6-foot-1, 165 pounds. Bats and throws right. Nice projectable frame at his age.  Stands tall in beginning of windup. Easy delivery, and loose arm. Tilts shoulders a little to throw over the top, but arm is loose and works well. Pretty effortless. Fastball was 77-80 mph. Curveball and change thrown at same arm speed as fastball. Both pitches lived at 67-69 mph. Curve had tight spin with 12/6 shape. At the plate has a tall, wider stance. Short stride. Swing slightly uphill. Line drive power in live round. Exit velocity was 85 mph off the tee. In the OF showcased arm velocity of 77 mph. Made all of the plays. Ran a 4.6 home to first time.

Ethan Gedrose, LHP/OF, Regis Jesuit, 2019
6-foot, 170 pounds. Bats and throws right. Pitches primarily from the stretch. Lands inline towards plate then spins on stride foot towards 3B. Throws from over the top arm slot, and hides ball well. Strike thrower. Fastball sat 75-77 mph. Curveball had 1/7 shape at same arm speed as fastball. Sat at 65 mph. Change up was 68-71 mph.

Ethan Mackintosh, RHP/SS, Cherokee Trail, 2020
5-foot-8, 135 pounds. Bats and throws right. Arm works good on mound. Long and loose. Wraps a little. Throws from over the top arm slot, but tilts a little. Lands in line to the plate and gets good extension. If square more high 3/4. Has high hips right now, can see he's going to grow a lot more. Fastball sat 70-72 mph. Changeup and curveball thrown at same arm speed as fastball. Both sat at 61-62 mph. At the plate has wide slight crouching stance. Small load, drops hands to the ball, slight uphill swing, bottom hand finish.. Line drive hitter. Showcased soft hand in the middle infield. Accurate throws to 1B with good glove to hand exchange. Zachary Macosko, RHP/OF, Broomfield, 2019
6-foot, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. High hips and strong long legs stand out. Arm is loose and works well with lower half. Lands inline to the plate. Will fall off to 1B at times. Looks like he's going to grow 4 more inches. Fastball was 76-80 for strikes. Arm speed is same as fastball on curve and change. Both sit at 64-65 mph range. Curve had 11/5 tilt. Good athlete. At the plate has open stance and closes down with leg kick stride. Level swing through zone and good extension through ball. Good live round. Has bat speed. Produced 87 mph exit velo off tee. Quick feet in OF and strong arm at 82 mph. Ran a 4.40 home to first. Athlete to follow.

Josh Pinello, RHP, Castleview, 2020
6-foot, 160 pounds. Bats and throws right. Solid fundamentals and mechanics on the mound for a freshman. Long legs that drive out towards plate inline to the catcher. In wind up hunches at balance point then comes from a 3/4 angle. Fastball sat 75-76 mph. Good extension towards the plate. Changeup was 66-68 with some sink, and curve was 65-66 with gradual 11/5 shape. At the plate stand tall with short stride. Level simple swing through the zone that is quick in and out. Line drive hitter. One arm finish. 83 mph exit velocity off the tee. Good feet at 3B for big kid. Accurate throws to first. Threw 69 across the diamond. Ran a 4.63 home to first.

Cory Ritchie, RHP/1B, ThunderRidge, 2019
6-foot-4, 215 pounds. Bats and throws right. Very tall already. Big frame. Strong legs. Lulls you to sleep in windup and ball is on you. Fastball was 79-80 mph but seemed faster and was heavy. Looks like there is more there. Good extension out front  then lands in line, then falls off to 1B. Sometimes clears hips to get arm through. Change needs to slow down. Was same speed almost as fastball at 76 mph. Curve was 71-72 mph with 11/5 shape. Already over 200 pounds. Big kid with projectability.

Brandon Rojas, RHP/C, Mountain Range, 2019
5-foot-8, 165 pounds. Bats and throws right. On mound effortless simple delivery, lands inline and is square to the plate. Comes at you with a quick low 3/4 arm slot which creates some sink. Fastball was 73 to 75 mph. Would like to seem some more variance in change. Was 69 mph so pretty similar to fastball. The curve sat 64-65 mph, more of a slurve. At the plate has weight back in stance. Keeps is simple with level swing through zone with one arm finish. Swing is in and out of zone. 78 mph exit velocity. Line drive hitter. As a catcher pretty quiet behind the plate. High 3/4 arm slot. Registered a 2.29 pop time. 71 mph arm velo. Ran a 4.68 home to first.

Brian Simpson, RHP/1B, Lakewood, 2019
6-foot-3, 215 pounds. Bats and throws right. Big strong kid on the mound. Arm slot is short on backside then comes over the top. Lands inline with the plate then falls off to first. Fastball was 74-75 mph. Change up was thrown from same arm speed  at 69-71 mph. Would like to see more variance in speed. Pretty fast changeup. Curveball was 65 to 66 mph with gradual 12/6 spin. Strike thrower. At the plate stands tall in stance. Hands are short to the ball. In and out swing. Extension through the ball. Line drive hitter. Produced a 78 mph exit velocity. Wraps back but comes with a quick arm from a 3/4 arm angle. Good job throwing off two feet. Like projectablity at his age already being 6-foot-2. Fastball sat 77-78 mph. Off speed pitches were same arm speed as fastball. Change was good at 68 mph. Curve had 10/4 action and was 65 mph. At plate has wide stance, slightly open. Leg kick the medium stride. Showed some bat speed with level swing through the zone for line drives. Produced a 85 mph exit velocity off the tee. Wants to get pull happy at times. From OF has same arm slot. Fastball was 80-81 mph. Change came in pretty fast at 75. Would like to see a little more variance in speed. Curve had some tight spin with 11/5 shape. At the plate has a balanced stance and has some rhythm. Had a good live round with line drive power. Hands are quick to the ball. Has a tendency to reach and not stay back. Bottom hand finish. Exit velo was 81 off the tee but played faster in live round. Good actions at SS. Good glove to hand transfer. Gains good ground towards 1B. Was 75 mph across the diamond. Ran a 4.72 home to first.
