Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Corner INF/OF, Ryan McCarthy

By John Cackowski
Director of Scouting-Colorado

In 2014 Ryan McCarthy had a successful junior year. In 60 AB's McCarthy was able to maintain a .500 batting average which included 8 doubles and a home run. McCarthy was voted Team MVP, and was nominated First Team All Pikes Peak League. When you ask McCarthy his goals for his upcoming senior season, what is the most important thing for him is to set an example as a leader.

"As a senior I look forward to setting an example as a leader and working as a team to help our new coach, Doug Goldberg, have a successful first year."

McCarthy has as big strong athletic build, standing 6-foot-2, and weighing 200 pounds.  He can play multiple positions, seeing time at 1B, 3B, or the outfield. He has a balanced athletic stance with a level swing through the zone that produces good bat speed and gap to gap power. Utilizes lower half well which produces good power.

When asking McCarthy what he is looking for in a school at the next level, academics and a strong business program are his main priorities. McCarthy carries a 4.4 G.P.A. and scored a 30 on his ACT.

"Academics have always been a priority for me and I want to continue that in college. I'm looking for a school with great academics as well as a strong and competitive baseball program.  I'm currently interested in studying Business."

Last year McCarthy helped lead the Kadets to an 11-8 record, and a spot in the 4A district playoffs. Only graduating 5 seniors in 2014, look for the Kadets to make another run in the 4A Pikes Peak league, and with the leadership potential of McCarthy the Kadets could possibly make a long run in the 4A playoffs. McCarthy played for Clint Zavarras Slammers 17U team this past summer and fall.
