Cory Dean Carver SS / OF / Montezuma-Cortez, CO / 2026Rankings StateRank: 10 / POS: 2
Carver is an intriguing infield prospect who plays the game at a fast pace, but still with control and feel. The Navy commit has some high-end athleticism while he generates exceptional power for his frame. We have seen Carver up to a 94 mph top exit velocity, a 74 mph bat speed, and a 6.6 60 yard dash in past events. During the 2024 Future Games, Carver was able to find the barrel often, presented advanced base-path instincts, and played quality middle-infield.

OUR Q&A:
Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Carver: I had a very open mindset about the recruiting process. At first, I thought that my grades would have very little affect on getting interest from colleges, but I quickly realized that it plays a major role in the recruiting process. I really wanted to go to a place where I felt wanted, and the Naval Academy was perfect for that. I wanted to go somewhere where the coaches had good relationships with the players, and I wanted to go to a place where I had a strong connection with all of the coaches and players.
Prep Baseball: Did location play a factor in your decision?
Carver: Although my family and friends would have liked me to be closer, I really wanted to get out of the small town that I live in. I have always liked bigger cities, and I saw this as my chance to explore other opportunities.
Prep Baseball: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?
Carver: I had interest from colleges early on in my high school career, but the recruiting process began to heat up much quicker as my junior year progressed. Once I got to the Future Games in Georgia, I felt like I was at the top of my game, and that was when my preparation was met with opportunity. The Future Games was the venue that allowed Navy to watch me play for the first time.
Prep Baseball: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?
Carver: At first, I was naive about the many opportunities that the Naval Academy provides. After visiting the campus, I was very impressed with the professionalism and the prestige of the Academy. Ultimately, the coaching staff at Navy was the biggest deciding factor. I truly felt like they believed in me and fully supported me.
Prep Baseball: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
Carver: Other colleges that were among my top choices included Dallas Baptist, USC, Notre Dame, and Michigan.
Prep Baseball: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?
Carver: The best player that I have faced in my high school career was Walker Martin. He was extremely confident and he took advantage of mistakes.
Prep Baseball: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
Carver: I knew early on that I was a college caliber player. I began to work extremely hard for goals that I set as a kid and I was determined to take my game to the next level.
Prep Baseball: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
Carver: If you ever get to a point in your career that you feel like you are the best, you have to remember that there are always other players working as hard as you are. Never quit working because you will be passed up and you will not have a place at the next level.
Prep Baseball: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
Carver: My freshman year, my team was down 3-4 late in the game to a rival school. I came up with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam to take the lead. I felt like this was a huge turning point in the season. After we won the game, we began to play like a top team in the state.
Prep Baseball: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?
Carver: I have never had more confidence in my guys. I truly believe that we have the best team in the state, and that we will prove it this season. We have to keep working, and we need to remember what we are working towards.
