HUDSON ALPERT (VANDERBILT COMMIT)

Hudson Alpert RHP / SS / Regis Jesuit, CO / 2026

Alpert has been Colorado's #1 ranked 2026 prospect for a while and he is now committed to Vanderbilt University after continuing to build plenty of momentum. The junior right-hander is 6'2'' with a wiry/athletic build he uses to complete a smooth and easy delivery that has seen the fastball up to 93 mph already (~2,400 rpm/16 avg. IVB). Alpert also has feel for spin thanks to a slider he can get into the 2,600s (rpm) with plenty of deception. We have seen Alpert excel within the state since he was a freshman, displaying higher level pitchability and competitiveness each season. Alpert's career spring pitching stat-line at the 5A level within Colorado sits at 89.1 innings with 94 strikeouts, 37 walks, 72 hits, a 12-3 record, .207 batting average allowed, and a 2.12 ERA.

OUR Q&A:

Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Alpert: It was tough to know what to fully expect because everyone’s situation is different. But I was super thankful that my Dad helped me to prepare for the interviews so that I felt comfortable on the calls. At the end of the day, you are just trying to show the coaches your personality and who you are. For me, finding a school where I could see myself playing was extremely important. And I felt like I could have a big impact on Vanderbilt’s program.

Prep Baseball: Did location play a factor in your decision?

Alpert: The distance from home didn’t affect where I wanted to play, but I had my mind set on the Central-East Coast. Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia were the states I enjoyed.

Prep Baseball: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

Alpert: The process got going on August 1st and started to heat up after an outing at the area codes. I had no clue know what to expect which made it a fun experience. The Vanderbilt recruiting coordinator Ty Blankmeyer first saw me at the Prep Baseball Fall World Series in 2023.

Prep Baseball: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Alpert: For me, it started with the feeling I got being on the campus and experiencing the program that the staff has built at Vanderbilt. The resources in place to develop me as a player, student, and young adult stood out to me. And playing for Coach Corbin is an incredible opportunity. It is hard to explain but you do get that gut feeling when something feels right.

Prep Baseball: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Alpert: Virginia, UNC, Clemson, Duke, and Tennessee were on my shortlist.

Prep Baseball: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

Alpert: I would have to say my teammate Chase Massey. The guy just seems to find his way on base every at-bat. What makes him a tough opponent is his competitiveness in the box, and you wouldn’t know if it’s an 0-2 or 3-0 count with him. He stays consistent.

Prep Baseball: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Alpert: It started for me after my Prep Baseball showcase in February of my freshman year. I had not done any showcase or recruiting events up to that point and it turned out to be a great experience to perform in an intense atmosphere. I gained confidence in myself and wanted to start to make a name for myself. From that point on, I was motivated to put my head down and see where this game could take me.

Prep Baseball: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Alpert: I think a lost art is working in silence. It’s important to find what works for you and thriving off of your gains rather than worrying about what other people are doing. For me, I saw the biggest jumps when I started taking sleep and nutrition more seriously. Going from building baseball around my day to building my day around baseball was super important as well.

Prep Baseball: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Alpert: Committing to Vanderbilt.

Prep Baseball: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

Alpert: I couldn’t be more excited for this spring. We have our toughest schedule yet, and a big tournament in North Carolina. We’re a younger team this year and I’m excited to see some of those guys step up into big-time roles. This year we return a very experienced staff and an explosive lineup. So far I am most impressed with the grittiness our guys have. No guy is above anything as we are all here to do one thing…
