TOMMY HUMPHREY (AIR FORCE COMMIT)

Tommy Humphrey OF / RHP / Chaparral, CO / 2026

Tommy Humphrey was another Team Colorado prospect who belted a home run during the 2024 Future Games. The athletic and strong outfielder continues to present well-rounded feel of the game with plenty of upside and tools. Humphrey has posted a 6.7 60 yard dash, an 88 mph outfield throwing velocity, and over a 96 mph top exit velocity in past events.

OUR Q&A:

Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Humphrey: To be honest I went in with no expectations. Went in hoping to get an opportunity to play somewhere and was lucky enough to find my home pretty early. Something I was looking for in a program was a bond and a family feel. I wanted the coaches and players to feel like one big family. I also wanted to develop a good relationship with the coaching staff. I think a coaching staff can make or break a decision.

Prep Baseball: Did location play a factor in your decision?

Humphrey: I think location did because I wanted to stay where I can see my family as often as I can. As well as them coming down to see me play.

Prep Baseball: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

Humphrey: It first started when The Air Force Academy reached out on July 1st. Then when other programs could reach out on August 1st I started to get more texts and calls. Air Force first saw me play in Georgia over the summer. As well as some in-state scrimmages and games against other Slammers' teams. It also really took off after the Prep Baseball Future Games.

Prep Baseball: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Humphrey: Something I liked most about the Air Force Academy is when I watched them practice the overall camaraderie of the team and coaches. It felt like one big family. No one was singled out or left out. Everyone was picking each other up and it just felt they were together.

Prep Baseball: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Humphrey: Campbell, Davidson, BYU, Columbia, Navy, CSUN, and Georgetown were some of the schools I had the most dialogue with.

Prep Baseball: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

Humphrey: Being able to play with Slammers, it’s provided the opportunity to compete against many great athletes and compete at the highest level.

Prep Baseball: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Humphrey: I’ve always been serious about playing at the next level. It’s always been my dream to play college and professional baseball.

Prep Baseball: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Humphrey: This game is hard, you’re gonna go through ups and downs. Times when you can’t get out. And times when nothing is falling. Stick with it and don’t lose your love for the game. As well as have fun. This game is hard enough, don’t make it harder by playing up tight. Play loose and have fun.

Prep Baseball: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Humphrey: I’ve been playing baseball since I was 5, I have so many great memories throughout my life. Some of my personal favorite memories are hitting the home run at the 2024 Futures Games as well as hitting a walk off home run to win a championship when I was little. Some of my other favorite memories are of my team when I was growing up.

Prep Baseball: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

Humphrey: I feel good about our team. Lot of our starting lineup is returning as well as new guys stepping up. I’m excited to see where the season takes us.
