EMERSON, Ga. - A Prep Baseball Report event that first began in 2011 is now more than a decade old. But the fun and interest received is anything but old when it comes to the Future Games.

This year’s showcase drew raves from so many in attendance watching 32 teams with players from 41 states and five Canadian provinces participating in front of approximately 350 college coaches.

“I'm not positive of the exact number of college coaches, but what stood out to me was how many schools traveled with the maximum number (3) of coaches in attendance,” related Shooter Hunt, vice president of scouting for PBR. “It is usually rare to see major head coaches out on the road, but the Future Games saw a plethora of BIG named head coaches walking around.”

What all coaches at LakePoint witnessed was impressive - to say the least - during the four-day event.

“I think the overall median level of talent was ultra impressive,” Hunt said. “There was so much to watch on each team throughout the entire roster that I felt like I was missing more than I was seeing. It's what makes the Future Games so special: there is something for every coach to watch for on each team. The staffs that brought multiple coaches were rewarded best because they were likely able to see the most.”

PBR Connecticut scouting director Trevor Brown had high praise about the prestigious event.

“Year after year the top talent attends the PBR Future Games,” Brown said. “The atmosphere of the college scouts and the PBR staff from national to state directors are on a professional level.”

One major change made this year was with the schedules, each team playing different opponents from previous years at the Future Games.

“I LOVED the new schedule, and I think that it helped rejuvenate the kids and staff after a long summer of playing against the same regional talent,” pointed out Hunt. “It was especially evident when the Ohio boys took on Florida. Ohio played like it had something to prove, and with a plethora of SEC and ACC coaches watching, I thought that they made the most of that big stage.”

Connecticut defeated Colorado while falling to New York and Oklahoma during the three days of games.

“I thought it was good, but I like the old format,” Brown said. “I think it gives the college coaches from our area more of a chance to really lock in on guys, but overall it was good to play some new faces.”

Hunt saw a lot to like in teams from the northeast.

“Teams like Connecticut and Massachusetts got to perform against some good out-of-region teams, and showcased strong skills,” Hunt said.

Brown was pleased with the play of his squad.

“I thought our pitching was good,” Brown noted. “We threw strikes the first two games, Andrew Rondini and Owen Tanke threw the baseball extremely well. James Fagnant and Chase Mendela, both left-handed hitter infielders, had multiple-hit games and played very well defensively. Most of our position players were young, raw and are good athletes, so it will be interesting to follow these guys.”

Brown was also excited about what the Junior Future teams displayed.

“Both Connecticut Junior teams competed at a high level,” Brown said. “The 2027 group went 2-2, making it to the playoff round before losing to Maryland, who ended up winning it.”

Hunt feels strongly that those participating, no matter the level, are more than worthy of being part of such a prestigious event.

“Every player at the Future Games has been evaluated by the PBR staff, so their presence alone means that they have next-level talent,” explained Hunt. “Many players had strong, breakout weeks, but even the guys who didn't see in-game success are still likely very much on college coaches' radars. I think it is important for those kids who didn't think that they performed well to understand that it was only four days, and college coaches are evaluating much more than whether or not they produced in that short window.”

A PBR thank you to all that participated and a special thanks to the players on Team Ohio that gave their thoughts about the event (including what schools have been in contact with them since the event):

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
The Future Games highlights for me were meeting new people and competing with great players

PBR: Assess your performance.
My performance was good pitching wise because it was my first time on a big stage like LakePoint.

The competition was unlike any I have seen in Connecticut and I felt it was a great experience.

The Future Games can help you because of the amount of college coaches that are there and if you perform that could change your life.

There have been five colleges follow me on Twitter, but that is it as of right now.

Adam Merritt RHP / SS / Kingswood Oxford, CT / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
The highlights were just being able to compete with other states and playing the best competition around.

PBR: Assess your performance.
My performance wasn’t my best but I was happy with the way I competed and challenged hitters without my A game.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Being a part of Team CT was definitely a new experience and was fun to go out and represent your state. Something that stood out was that all my teammates were from somewhere different and just showed how much talent is out there in Connecticut and in other states as well.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The Futures isn’t an event like any other with an insane amount of coaches everywhere. It’s just good for coaches to see you. Most of these guys don’t know what they are watching or don’t know what you have done in your career but it’s a great way to get your foot in the door.

Trace Morales RHP / 3B / Fitch, CT / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My highlight in the Future Games was pitching two innings and only giving up one hit and no runs.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I feel like my performance was ok but not my best because my control could’ve been better.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
I think being a part of Team CT was great because I got to talk to the kids that I’ve either played against in high school ball or travel ball.

Participating in the Future Games can help you make a name for yourself and put your name on colleges’ radars.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
I was in contact with CCSU before this event but nothing since. Thanks for having me.

Baden Plante RHP / East Hampton, CT / 2024

I loved being part of Team CT. We had a ton of character and overall it was just a great experience.

Being in the Future Games helps you in the future, too, because it’s a great way to get exposure. There are an unbelievable number of college coaches there.

Michael Poole RHP / 1B / Westerly, RI / 2025

Some of the best parts of playing in the Future Games was that I was playing with and against very high-level competition on a big stage.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I personally thought I pitched well.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
It was great being a part of Team CT because I got to play with a few kids that I already know and I also got the chance to meet new players from other places.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
All of the players at the Future Games are very good baseball players and they all can go play somewhere at the next level.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
I think participating in the Future Games will help me get my name out there and get looked at by colleges in the future.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
I’ve talked to the University of Rhode Island coach since the event has ended.

Logan Rembish RHP / SS / St. Paul Catholic, CT / 2025

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My Future Games highlights were getting to attend such a prestigious and national event as a 2025 player and competing against some of the best talent in the country while being watched by hundreds of college coaches. I had heard great things about the event from my brother, Ethan Rembish, who played in it back in 2018 when it was held in Indianapolis. The Future Games turned out to be everything I had envisioned.  Positive feedback rolled in almost immediately and it exemplifies why PBR, and specifically the Future Games, is such a game-changing experience for prospective college baseball players.

PBR: Assess your performance.
When I was asked to attend the Future Games, I realized it was important to put in perspective that I was attending the Future Games as a young 15-year-old and I would be facing much older talent.  In assessing my performance, I had several goals going into the Games - showcase my talent, show that I am very projectable (good mechanics, velocity, command of all of my pitches, etc), and of course always try to show a good mound presence no matter the situation. I believe I accomplished all of those goals. Obviously, I was excited to see that I was sitting 85-86.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Being part of Team CT was amazing. I knew some of my teammates ahead of time, but I instantly bonded with the new kids as we all had the same common goal of representing Connecticut on behalf of PBR.  It was so cool to be in a dugout with such talented and accomplished players and of course coach Trevor Brown and his coaching staff.  I learned a lot from everyone.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
I faced Team NY and I was impressed with the talent on that team. They were very good and disciplined hitters. They all brought a professional approach to the plate. It was great to pitch against such amazing talent and it also taught me what I needed to do to be successful against a lineup like that going forward.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
As I mentioned, I knew going to the PBR Future Games would be a game changing type of event with future exposure and recruiting.  Having two older D-I siblings (Ethan - baseball and Alison - softball) has helped me see the work that you need to put into your sport in order to be successful. With that said, getting the right exposure and being visible is so important. The PBR Future Games is instant exposure and visibility. At 15-years-old, it will be one of the biggest events for my college recruiting. Moreover, after seeing the assortment of talent in LakePoint, it will motivate me even more to keep working harder because that is what the competition will be doing.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
I learned after the event that several coaches reached out to mutual acquaintances of mine commenting and complimenting me on my performance. Thus, the event wasn’t even over and I heard positive feedback coming in almost immediately. Now, within days of the event, coaches have reached out to my AAU coach to check in and set up times to come see me play. I am excited and grateful for the opportunities that PBR and the Future Games have created for me. I realize as a rising sophomore the hard part is just beginning, but I am excited to meet that challenge. While I have had some success thus far, I take pride every time I step onto the baseball field and I want to continue to maximize my potential.

Andrew Rondini RHP / SS / Canterbury, CT / 2024

Waiting to hear back from.

Owen Tahnk RHP / 1B / Newburyport, MA / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
The whole experience was a highlight for me, from getting the gear on the first day to walking out of the complex after the game I pitched. Getting to meet everyone on Team Connecticut and competing against some of the best talent in the country was something that I will never forget.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I thought I pitched well. Besides some missed spots on a couple pitches, I pounded the zone and challenged batters. I felt as if I could place my curveball and fastball anywhere, which is a great feeling. My catcher did a good job calling pitches in order to keep the hitters off balance as well as mixing spots and changing eye level which limited the hitters' success. Also, the defense made some great plays behind me which helped my outing go very smoothly.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Even though I am a Massachusetts’ kid, I enjoyed meeting and playing with the guys on Team Connecticut. I think what stood out to me was the talent that Team Connecticut had. I thought everyone on the team was a quality player and even though most kids didn’t know each other, we were all rooting for one another and cheering for our teammates which was another thing that stood out to me.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition at this event was top tier. Every player at this event is a top uncommitted prospect and that showed by the amount of coaches that came and watched.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Participating in the Future Games can prepare you for the pressure and competition at the next level. The pressure of all the coaches having their eyes on you at all times can prepare you for college baseball, and the spotlight you will be in at that level. On the other hand, the competition faced at the Future Games prepares you for the talent that will be at the next level and exposes you to the things you need to work on.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
Within the 24 hours I pitched, I was in contact with many D-1 college coaches. This shows how impactful the Future Games can be for your recruitment.

Matthew Wood OF / LHP / Trumbull, CT / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My Future Games highlights were getting a double play ball on my second batter, and striking out my last batter of the day.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I thought I threw well, and I was happy to keep our team in the game when I threw.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
I am super grateful to have been selected for Team CT, and what stood out was the competitive spirit every guy on our team had.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition I faced was strong and great to be able to go up against, because you don’t face that strong of a lineup every day.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Competing in the Future Games can help me in the future by helping expose me to the great talent there is around the world, and how I shape up, along with helping colleges see me.

The Two-Way Prospects

Ryan Thompson RHP / 1B / Bishop Hendricken, RI / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
The Future Games was an awesome environment to compete in. All of the schools there and all of the great players to play around were so much fun.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
I have not been in touch with any college coaches yet.

Waiting to hear back from.

Nick Spaner C / Portsmouth, RI / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
Some of my highlights were being able to play on and against teams of players with a similar skill set to me, and just being able to hang out with them.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I thought I did well. Obviously, there will always be room for improvement, but I was able to drive in some runs when needed and put the ball where it was pitched. I was also very happy with my defense behind the plate and at first base (which I wasn’t expecting to play).

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Being on Team Connecticut was a blast for me. I feel like we probably had some better chemistry than other teams because we live in a smaller area, so a lot of us have played with/against one another.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
This was the best all-around competition I’ve ever faced. Every pitcher was throwing 84-90 with good off speed, every hitter was good, and every fielder could field. It was different than usual, but in a good way.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The Future Games allowed me to be exposed to some colleges that I would probably never be able to be exposed to without this. There’s nowhere else where you will find 200 scouts.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
Post Future Games, some schools reached out in various ways. Ohio University sent me an email, West Virginia recruiting followed me on Twitter, and the recruiting coordinator from Northwestern called me (I’ve spoken with their head coach previously).

The Infielders

Colin Crowley SS / 3B / Southington, CT / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
The main highlight of the Future Games was getting the chance to play good competition in front of countless college coaches. It was awesome meeting new people and players and being able to talk to them and play with them also.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I performed very well in the field and during the showcase day. Although I could’ve done better hitting in-game, I feel I had some good at-bats and put some good swings on the ball, just missing a couple.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Being part of Team CT was a great experience. Being able to meet so many people from all different high schools and talking to them was great.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was very good. The pitchers we faced were very talented and facing that kind of competition is something you won’t see as often at our age in the northeast.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Participating in the event may help me in the future because I can use the new stats from the event to help myself get recruited.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
So far I have heard that West Virginia had taken notice of my game, and I am hoping that there will be more coaches reaching out in the future.

James Fagnant SS / RHP / East Granby, CT / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My two favorite highlights were when I had the two-RBI shot to center on the first pitch I saw in the Games and when I got a base hit when I was mic’d up for PBR New England.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I think I did very well. I got a lot of hits and some of the outs I made were really hard hit just right at guys. I also made some nice plays in the field.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Team CT was really fun. What stood out being a small state was that I already knew a lot of the guys on the team and we all seemed to really like each other on and off the field.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was really strong across the board. What surprised me was how even it was. I expected some states and regions to dominate others but when you pick the best from each area it really makes for good games.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Being able to perform in front of hundreds of college coaches was so helpful for me. There are a lot of things in the recruiting process that are hard to tell if they are worth it, but you could easily see how valuable this was.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
I wasn’t able to speak to many coaches during the games and time I was on campus but within a few days I have already received some camp invites from D-1 schools.

Cole Hambly 1B / 3B / Bishop Hendricken, RI / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
I would probably say hitting five homers in BP would be my highlight from the Futures.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I thought I did great defensively. However, I could’ve produced more at the plate.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Being on Team Connecticut was awesome. I basically got to represent my state and Connecticut.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
I have never faced the type of competition I faced while down there. I got to face kids that were much better than back up north.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
I believe the Future Games is the best event an uncommitted player can attend to be recruited.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
Yes, I have had multiple coaches that have been in contact with me since the event has ended.

Chase Mendela SS / RHP / St. Paul Catholic, CT / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
There were a lot of memorable highlights about the Future Games but my favorite highlight was on the first day when everyone was showing up and receiving their gear. After everyone received their gear and everyone on Team Connecticut was in the dugout we all immediately started talking to each other and introducing ourselves to each other. We all bonded immediately. Another one of my favorite highlights was in the first game against Team Colorado in my first at-bat I hit a stand-up triple over the center fielder’s head. This stuck with me through the whole event and gave me more confidence to keep playing well and to play my hardest despite the challenging competition.

PBR: Assess your performance.
Overall I thought I showed well, especially during game play where I showed well at the plate and made multiple plays in the field. My bat played a big part for me in this event, especially facing the really good pitching.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Being on Team Connecticut was special and I felt it since the first day I arrived there. Everyone was talking to each other and getting comfortable with each other which made each one of us confident to play with each other. What really stood out to me was that everyone had each other's backs since the first day everyone arrived. Also, another thing that stood out to me was even though we had just met each other, the environment was like a family and we picked each other up.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition that I faced at the event was amazing. The pitching was really good. The pitchers came out throwing strikes, had really good velocity, had great command on all of their pitches, and sharp breaking balls. From an infielder’s perspective, the hitters were tough outs and they were not going to be an easy out. The hitters fought and battled against the challenging  pitching and when they put the ball in play the ball was hit hard which would make the defense work harder and would overall make everyone better.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The Future Games can help in many different ways. One way is playing in front of a lot of top college programs. This will get you a lot of exposure by also playing with the best uncommitted players in the country. This will get you better in the future and will get you a lot of exposure which will help you with your college process.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
I have gained two followers on Twitter from the LSU assistant coach and Bryant University’s head coach since the event ended. I also received a camp invite from Ohio University’s assistant coach a day after the event ended.

David Pengel SS / 2B / Avon, CT / 2025

Gabe Tanous SS / 2B / Barrington, RI / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
Getting the opportunity to play at LakePoint and see all the college coaches.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I thought I hit well, made some sweet plays in the field and ran the bases well. It was a pretty good showing.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
It was a blast playing with a bunch of the top guys from the same area.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
It was great competition. Every pitcher we faced was a battle. Some of the metrics put up at the showcase were unbelievable, too.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
For such a great event, it looks good to say you played in it. Not only that, it gives you a taste for what’s out there.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
Stony Brook reached out, along with some new followers on Twitter. I’m expecting a few more to reach out.

The Outfielders

Alex Benevento OF / SS / New Canaan, CT / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
I think my biggest Future Games highlight was being able to meet a bunch of really good guys that just enjoy playing the game of baseball. It was a real pleasure to be able to go out and compete with them.

PBR: Assess your performance.
Overall I was very happy with my performance at the Future Games. I had a strong day-one workout and finished with a .500 average through the three showcase games.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Like I said before, the biggest thing that stood out for me with Team Connecticut was the people I was able to play with. They were all not only talented baseball players but really down-to-earth guys that just loved baseball.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
Like always, the competition was very strong. A lot of great pitching that led to some really exciting matchups.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The Future Games definitely will help me in the future. One way it can definitely help is all of the exposure it presented with countless college coaches being in attendance. And a second way is being introduced to players with higher skill levels that will allow me to compete at the next level.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
I’ve had a few calls with a few different schools but that’s about all that came from the event so far.

Dylan Kennedy-Fujah OF / 2B / Cheshire Academy, CT / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
I had a sliding catch, pieced the ball up the middle, almost threw someone out at third from right field and stole second base. The overall team I was on was just amazing. Even the innings I sat out everyone was involved and cheering for their teammates, and when I was mic'd up that was awesome.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I feel I did a pretty good job. I didn’t do as well as I wanted to but not everyone’s going to be amazing all the time so I just gave it my all and as long as I knew I was trying and giving it my all I feel I did a good job.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Just the energy was on top. We all kind of clicked pretty fast, then we learned each other’s strengths, then started capitalizing on them within the first game. I felt our coaches coached us more than other teams’ coaches.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was the best in each state for our class and it was definitely a fight for each inning and AB. Every time we thought we had a pitcher down that was hitting his spots a new one came in which kind of threw us off. But that made the challenge of hitting them so much more intense and honestly fun.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
A college could have seen you there and loved what they saw and started talking to you after that. That is true especially if you’re looking to go out of state because if you like a college that’s across the country, if you’re not the number one guy on their list, they’re not going to take that long of a trip to see you. Here they’re able to see different kids from around the country they wouldn’t be able to get to see.

Andrew Ray OF / 2B / Cumberland, RI / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
Everything about Future Games was great. The best moment was probably a catch I made in the outfield to end an inning.

PBR: Assess your performance.
In the Future Games I had some good swings at the plate and reached base multiple times during the event.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
Team Connecticut was a great team to be around and the teammates were amazing.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was some of the best I have ever been around.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The future games helped me get more used to the showcase setting which will help me in the future.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches did you talk to at the event or hear from since the event ended?
Multiple coaches have reached out and I received my first offer after future games.

Kacin Robinson OF / SS / East Hartford, CT / 2024

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
I think the Future Games event was a great way for me to see greater competition and pitching from around the country. It was also great to play in front of so many college coaches.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I think my performance was alright, I showed that I can get on base and come through when it is needed.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Connecticut and what stood out.
I thought meeting other top players from Connecticut was great as well.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
In the future, participating in the event again will help show how I have developed from the past year.
