Northeast Schools Have Milewski On Their Radar

WALLINGFORD, Ct. - Camps at schools in the northeast are where Kevin Milewski is getting seen of late. But the process took off about a year ago.

“I went to a PBR Scout Day and since then I’ve been getting invites to camps,” noted the Notre Dame West Haven junior. “More recently I’ve been invited to the Procase.”

The 6-4 220-pounder is hoping to show what he can do, something he did at the PBR New England State Games in October.

“A monster right-handed hitter, power to all fields, multiple hits during game play,” Trevor Brown posted on his profile on the PBR website. “Defensively, soft hands, arm at 77 mph, life and carry to it. Serious follow. Chance to be a pro at some point.”

The PBR Connecticut Director of Scouting has more high praise when it comes to the 10th-ranked uncommitted 2023 in New England

“Kevin is a physical hitter who controls the bat with minimal swings and misses,” Brown said. “He shows some arm strength behind the dish, and brings value with his ability to play first base as well.”

But it is behind the plate that the fourth-rated junior catcher in New England is being recruited by many schools.

“Some like me at catcher and some at catcher and first base,” Milewski related. “Most say they like my size and what I have to offer with my skills, my power and defensive ability with how big I am.”

Milewski has attended a pair of camps at Connecticut and one each at St. John’s, Bryant and Franklin Pierce, with Boston College also showing interest.

“In the fall I started looking at schools in the northeast and going to camps,” Milewski explained. “I like what the programs and coaches have to offer at the ones I’ve gone to so far. I really liked the new updated facilities at UConn.”

Improvement in his game has been vital in attracting colleges.

“I made the switch from a town legion team to a really good travel team,” pointed out Milewski. “My skills have improved a brunch from what the coaches have been telling me. My hitting ability has shown improvement and I’m fine-tuning my catching.”

Former first-round MLB draft pick Dave Gallagher has also been supportive of the 16-year-old.

“He’s been a great mentor in helping me get to the next step with what to do and how to approach camps and how to stand out,” noted Milewski, who also gave credit to his travel team coaches with the Connecticut Grind when it comes to helping development.

The desire to play at the next level started early.

“I knew from a very young age that baseball was something I wanted to do and that I really enjoyed,” Milewski explained. “I started to realize it could happen once I got to high school when coaches started coming to my games and talking to my coaches who were telling me I have the potential.”

Sport management or business analytics are majors being considered by the 30th-rated 2023 in New England, a 3.9 student who believes he can be a vital cog in any program.

“I’m a leader and a great team player,” Milewski said. “I’m willing to put teammates ahead of myself.”

A coaching staff that understands the game and can help Milewski get better is the blueprint of what the ninth-rated 2023 from Connecticut is looking for in a program.

“The next couple of months I’m looking to get in the weight room and get bigger and stronger,” Milewski concluded. “Our summer coach gave us our schedule and I want to get it out there to coaches so, hopefully, I can get committed. We’re going to some of the biggest tournaments all over the northeast so I’ll get a lot of exposure there.

“My coach said offers will start coming in the late spring or early summer so, hopefully, by the end of summer I’ll commit. But I want it to be the right fit.”
