Griffin Pontbriant RHP / Norwich Free Academy, CT / 2021

UNCASVILLE, Ct. - Griffin Pontbriant has a list of Division I colleges in the northeast under consideration along with junior colleges in the south. Now it is a matter of getting seen and showing what he can bring at the next level.

“I’m weighing what’s best for my future,” the incoming senior at Norwich Free Academy explained. “If I get offered from a Division I school in the northeast I’ll probably go there. But if I go to a southern JUCO school, I might have a quicker chance to live out my dream of getting drafted.”

In the eyes of PBR Connecticut Director of Scouting Trevor Brown, the 6-4 200-pound right-handed pitcher had a chance to be selected in the recent MLB Draft.

“Griffin is a big right-handed pitcher with a fastball in the mid-to-upper-80s and a hard slider with sweeping action at times,” Brown noted prior to the draft, which this year was limited to just five rounds instead of the usual 40-round selection process. “The fastball has a heavy sink. He has a chance to be a big-time arm, and potential to be a draft pick.”

Although not chosen, the third-rated uncommitted 2021 RHP in New England has opened the eyes of college scouts.

“Most of those schools I’ve been talking to recently said they saw me at the Future Games,” pointed out Pontbriant, a member of Team Connecticut at the PBR event last August. “Central liked me before the Future Games and then after said they really liked me.”

In addition to Central Connecticut State, the eighth-ranked uncommitted player in New England’s 2021 class has had interest from Rutgers, Bryant, Northeastern, Quinnipiac and Marist.
