Preseason All-State Showcase: Top Prospects

By Jacob Gill
Pennsylvania Assistant Director of Scouting

The two-day PBR PA 2016 Preseason All-State Showcase took place this weekend with nearly 100 prospects in attendance. Below are snippets on 18 of the top performers, broken down by class (we could have included many more, but had to draw the line somewhere). Complete write-ups of all prospects in attendance will be rolled out over the next eight days.

Class of 2016

Joseph Singley, C, Archmere Academy (DE)
Polished defender w/ soft glove hand, efficient footwork/release (1.81-1.97 pop), soft wall; also has some strength in frame (90-mph exit velocity)

Jacob Kinsell, RHP, Carmichaels Area
6-foot-1, 185-pounder has added ten pounds and six ticks on his fastball since last seen, clocking in at 85-87 with developing secondary stuff.

Class of 2017

Angus Mayock, RHP, Conestoga
6-foot-3, 215-pounder with low-effort delivery and late life on fastball at 84-86, with more to come; solid 11/5 curveball with depth.

Steven Kokoski, C, Lakeview
Advanced defender w/ super quick release and accurate arm (1.93-2.00 pop times); RHH w/ good bat speed, ball jumps off bat (95mph exit velocity).

Will Lozinak, RHP, Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic
XL frame (6-foot-5, 205-pounds) w/ loose, clean arm action and consistent, hard bore on 81-84 FB; good feel for CH.

Tyler Peterson, C/RHP, Hollidaysburg Area
Intriguing 6-foot-2, 190-pound two-way guy with strength in bat (96-mph exit velocity) and arm (2.09-2.13 pop times); mid-80s FB with feel for two secondary pitches.

John Servello, OF/RHP, Hollidaysburg Area
Physical RHH w/ chance to punish the baseball (96-mph exit velocity); FB up to 88 on the bump w/ solid CB.

Christopher Alleyne, SS, Springside Chestnut Hill
Switch-hitting Maryland commit flashed quick-twitch ability at the plate and in the field; ran 6.82 60-yard dash.

Class of 2018

Dillon Marsh, LHP/1B/OF, Lancaster Catholic
Wake Forest commit who continues to add strength to his now 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame; LHH w/ good wheels (6.91 60-yard dash) and chance to really drive the baseball (97-mph exit velocity); easy delivery and velocity (now 86-87) continues to climb.

Drew Baughman, 3B, Cumberland Valley
Liberty commit is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound man-child with plus power potential from both sides of the plate; first-ever PA event attendee to post triple-digit exit velocity.

Kyle Hess, OF, Donegal
Didn't take his best BP round, but 12 swings in February are hardly enough to diminish the stock of the LHH who ran a 6.70 60 (was 6.64 in November) and has a chance to drive a gap (89-mph exit velocity). Added to Team PA roster for 2016 PBR Future Games following the event.

Adam Schwartz, RHP/OF, Ephrata Area
One of the top across-the-board tool sets on the weekend (7.09 60-yard dash, 92-mph OF arm, 96-mph exit velocity) and ran FB up to 89. Added to Team PA roster for 2016 PBR Future Games following the event.

Nick Parker, IF/RHP, Dallastown Area
Quality two-way guy; RHH w/ repeatable swing whose hands work; mid-80s FB w/ feel for four offerings. Added to Team PA roster for 2016 PBR Future Games following the event.

Adam Smith, SS, West Chester East
Wiry strong RHH w/ very good defensive actions and demonstrated ability to throw from multiple arm slots; solid wheels (6.98 60 this time; has been 6.84 in the past).

Justin Wright, 3B, Hempfield Area
RHH w/ some strength (94-mph exit velocity) and solid across-the-board skill set with the bat and glove.

Class of 2019

Joseph Messina, RHP, Neumann-Goretti
Sat upper-70s w/ FB (has shown low-80s in past); body control, long levers, and ease-of-delivery indicate big velocity spike coming over course of career; good feel for secondary stuff.

Drew Mummau, SS, Manheim Central
Advanced defensive actions at a young age; RHH whose hands work at the dish.

Sean Hopkins, OF, West Chester Rustin
Very physical for his age (6-foot-1, 190-pounds); flashed some bat speed and posted an 89-mph exit velocity; ran a 6.79 60-yard dash.
