2016 Underclass Games Preview

By Doug Freeman and Mike Maerz

Tomorrow, Saturday, September 17th the 2016 Underclass Games will take place at the University of South Florida. This event will feature some of the top 2018-2020s who will go through a pro-style workout and then play in simulated games after. This year’s roster will sure to excite as there are several players who will be in attendance that appear in the PBR Florida Rankings. Below are some players to look out for as well as team rosters and event itinerary.

One of the top 2018s that will be in attendance is the 6-foot-2, 165 pound RHP Andrew Aultman (Graceville HS, FL). The lean and projectable righty has been 86-89 mph with his fastball and has shown improved feel for the offspeed stuff with a clean and easy ¾ arm action.

Also from the 2018 class is 6-foot-6, 235 pound RHP/1B Nolan Lepkoske (Mandarin HS, FL). He has a big, strong and physical body and has shown an 84-87 mph fastball, 74-77 mph changeup, and 71 mph curveball in the past.

From the 2019 class, some of the standouts include C Parker Aultman (Graceville HS, FL), SS Keniel De Leon (Olympia HS, FL) and SS Matthew Corlew (Trinity Christian HS, FL).

C Parker Aultman stands at 6-foot, 170 pounds with an athletic frame with room to fill out. He has shown a quick bat with a good path through the zone to go along with his 1.94-2.04 pop times. At 6-foot-1, 155 pounds SS Keniel De Leon has shown athleticism and projectability at the shortstop position. Finally, the 6-foot, 160 pound SS Matthew Corlew has shown the ability to defend at short with a quick first step and soft hands to go along with some projectability in the bat.

From the 2020 class, some of the standouts include C Dylan Crews (Lake Mary HS, FL), Jackson Miller (JW Mitchell HS,FL) and RHP Carson Montgomery (West Orange HS,FL)

OF/C Dylan Crews stands at 5-foot-10, 155 pounds with a lean, athletic build. From behind the plate, he has a quick release with accurate throws down to second base. He also shows athleticism and moves well with flexibility. In the outfield he displays good range and tracks the ball. At the plate, he shows the ability to square it up consistently and the ball jumps off the bat. Crews possesses good instincts as well and looks to be one of the top prospects in his class.

RHP/OF Carson Montgomery stands at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds with a strong, athletic, solid build for his age. He displays a projectable arm with more velocity to come as he has sat 82-83 mph with his fastball which has some downhill action, up to 84 while mixing in a 70-71 mph curveball and a 75 mph change up. Montgomery also shows some good bat speed and the ability to drive the ball at the plate.

C Jackson Miller who is one of the top 2020s in the country, stands at 5-foot-10, 165 pounds and hits from the left side. He made the 15u USA National team and is expected to be one of the standouts at this event as well.

While these are some of the standouts we have seen throughout the summer, there are many more quality 2018-2020 players that will be in attendance. We look forward to seeing some make the next big jump as well as those who we have heard great things about and have not had the chance to see yet.
