2020 FL Preseason All-State Spotlight: Brody Donay

Rocco Iervasi
Florida Director of Operations/Area Scout

Preseason All-State has quickly become the top Preseason event in the state of Florida. Last year’s event consisted of over 50 committed players and 2 players who were selected in the 2019 MLB Draft. This event is held for the top 2020s-2023s throughout the state to kick off the Prep Baseball Report's spring high school baseball coverage.

We will continue to spotlight many of the top players who will be in attendance at this year’s Preseason All-State Showcase. Today, we look at 2022 C Brody Donay (Lakeland Christian). Donay was a member of Team Florida at the 2018 PBR Junior Future Games. He is ranked 64th in our Florida Class of 2022 rankings.

Scouting Report

11/02/19

Uncommitted 2022. Tall, lanky catcher at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds. Impressed offensively and defensively throughout the workout and gameplay. Short leg kick, keeps hands inside. Gap-to-gap hitter. Made consistent hard contact in BP. Quick transfers on throws down to second. Showed in game pop times of 2.00.

2/11/19

At 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, he has a very lanky frame to grow and mature into. Defensively, he is still learning his body in space. As he matures and continues to add reps, strength and flexibility, the natural feel for the position as well as strong hands and a strong arm should translate to a solid to above average defender. Offensively, he has long levers and still maturing. This creates length at times, but should become more compact with age and strength. The long levers also create leverage and will have power potential in the future. Very high ceiling young catcher.

6/23/18

A lanky 6-foot, 145 pounds and has the frame you can see being very projectable as he matures. Offensively, there is present leverage. There is some steepness in the path and could get into the lower half, but the leverage will translate to power as he matures and adds strength. Defensively, he is athletic and flexible. The hands work and has quality defensive tools. His pop time ranged from 2.13-2.28. There is a lot of growth ahead and there are present tools that you can see making big strides.
