2020 Future Games Team Florida Preview

Rocco Iervasi
Florida Director of Operations/Area Scout

The 2020 PBR Future Games kicks off Saturday, August 1st at LakePoint in Cartersville, GA. Last year’s event featured 12 players from Team Florida committing to schools and we expect similar with this year’s talented roster. Team Florida will feature a roster of 25 players, 17 from the 2022 class and 8 from the 2023 class.

Team Preview

On the mound for Team Florida, our lone southpaw, 2022 Alex Walsh features a mid 80’s fastball with above average secondary stuff. 2022 RHP Logan Plasencia is our hardest thrower of the bunch. He’s been up 92 mph this summer. 2022 Ryan Slattery is a strong bodied RHP with a heavy fastball that sits 87-89. 2022 Samuel Cole is a big, 6-foot-5, 220 pound RHP who has made a nice jump in the last year, up to 88 mph with his fastball. Our lone 2023 arm is RHP Nolan Juvers. Juvers is 6-foot-5, 210 pounds with a fastball 85-88 and flashes of above average secondary stuff.

Behind the plate, we have three above average defensive catchers. 2022 Hayden Perry is a stocky backstop with quick feet and a present hit tool. 2022 Schyler Arroyo moves well behind the plate with a strong block and an above average arm. 2023 Alex Sosa is a young catcher with a simple left handed swing that produces easy gap to gap pop.

At first base, we have 2022 Jack Bello. Bello swings right-handed but throws left-handed. Moves well defensively with a gap-to-gap approach at the plate. He will see some time on the mound as well with a low to mid 80’s fastball. 2023 James Hankerson has shown some big time power this summer. Strong bodied switch hitter who can hit for power to all fields.

At 3rd base, we have 2022 Matt Rose. Rose continues to impress with his bat as he consistently finds the barrel and drives balls gap to gap. Rose moves well defensively and has the arm to play third. He will see some time at 2B as well. 2023 Hayden Gustavson is a physical 3rd baseman with soft hands defensively. The bat plays and has shown some power potential to both sides of the field.

Up the middle, we have 2022 Marek Houston, a long lanky shortstop with an above average glove. 2022 Ashton Wilson continues to show well as a hitter. He makes consistent hard, line drive contact. 2022 Johnnie Lopez is a lefty hitting shortstop who can really swing it and has a above average glove. 2022 Isaiah Myles is a quick footed middle infielder who will be mid 80’s on the mound as well. 2022 Christopher Roberts is a former Junior Future Gamer and makes his debut on the high school side this year. Quick bat with some power potential. The lone 2023 in the middle infield is Robert Demetree. Advanced defensively with an above average arm. Gap-to-gap line drive hitter.

In the outfield, we have 2022 AJ Nessler who is back for the second straight year. Left handed bat with above average bat speed and power to the pull side. Two of our best runners on the team are OF’s 2022 Nicholas Alonso and 2023 Michael Graziano. Both run in the 6.6-6.7 range and can swing it as well. 2022 Ethan Phillips has made a nice jump both offensively and on the mound in the last year. The bat plays and he has been up to 87 this summer. 2022 Scott Edwards is another bat that continues to make strides. Easy line drive hitter with an above average arm in the outfield. 2023 Hayden Yost is a left handed bat that has jumped onto the scene this summer. Has shown an ability to drive the ball to all fields. Last but not least is 2023 Michael Petite. A two-sport athlete who might be one of the best athletes in attendance. Petite can play almost every position on the field and is up to 89 on the mound.

This Florida team is full of uncommitted talent at every position. I am excited to get to know these boys and watch them compete this weekend.
