2021 FL ProCase: Team Black Analysis

The 2021 PBR Florida ProCase took place Wednesday, June 2nd at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. The event featured some of the top 2021-2022 prospects in the state participating in a pro-style workout followed by gameplay in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff. The event was broken down into two sessions with Team Black and Team Blue in session 1. Team Red and Team Grey were apart of session 2.

To view all the stats from the event, check out our Stats Story. Today we will continue with our Player Analysis breaking down each player's tools and projectability through scouting reports. So far we have gone through Team Red and Team Grey Analysis. Today, we continue with Team Black.

Team Black Analysis

 

Jorge Acevedo 2B / 3B / Columbus , FL / 2021

Nova Southeastern University Commit, 5-foot-11, 175-pound solid mature frame. Athletic during batting practice, Acevedo had a max exit velocity of 98 mph. Began in an athletic stance with a controlled arm bar load, then used a short stride. Bat speed is above average, has a short level swing plane and level finish. Through his round he found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Up the middle approach. Fluid while in the infield, made throws up to 75 mph; shows soft hands, quick athletic feet, and a quick clean exchange. Movements laterally were athletic. Using a loose arm action, showed consistent accuracy to the base from a high ¾ slot. The athletic infielder showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.92.


Brett Blair 3B / SS / Buchholz, FL / 2021

Stanford Commit, 6-foot-2, 210-pound solid physical frame. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 98 mph. Begins in a tall quiet stance with a quick tight load, then uses a controlled stride. Has efficient bat speed, level loose swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Confident while in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 78 mph; has sure hands, rhythmic consistent feet, and a clean natural exchange. Shows out front glove work. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot and a quick arm action. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.84. 


Jack Cue OF / OF / Archbishop McCarthy, FL / 2021

Louisiana Tech Commit, 6-foot-2, 195-pound lean athletic frame. Athletic in the box, Cue recorded an exit velocity of 99 mph. Begins in a balanced quiet stance with a slow controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Bat speed is above average, uses a simple loose swing plane and high finish. Barreled up lots of balls with loud contact. Line drive approach. In the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 88 mph. Solid In the outfield, shows athletic fluid feet, a lengthy exchange, and consistent soft hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. From an-over-the-top slot, showed decent accuracy to the bag with a longer arm action. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.68 60-yard dash. 


Jakobi Davis OF / 1B / Riverview (Sarasota), FL / 2021

Cornell Commit, 6-foot-3, 210-pound long athletic frame. Athletic at the plate, the left-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 100 mph. Starts in an athletic wide stance with a tight smooth load, then uses a toe tap. Bat speed is electric, exhibits a rotational loose swing plane and a back foot finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Line drive approach. Confident from the outfield, he showed plus arm strength by making throws to the infield at velocities up to 90 mph;shows a clean fluid exchange, consistent sure hands, and choppy athletic feet. Fields the ball to the side, movements laterally were athletic. Had a loose arm action and a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.62.


Dearl Edens RHP / RHP / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022

5-foot-11, 180-pound athletic frame. Projectable on the mound, showed quick arm speed with a loose arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses easy effort. Tall balance point with in line shoulders. Lands closed with an athletic finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 84-86 mph with a max of 87 mph; has running action and arm side command. Threw a sharp curveball (73-75) with low in the zone control. His changeup (79-80) had fading action. 


Marek Houston SS / RHP / Venice, FL / 2022

Wake Forest Commit, 6-foot-3, 180-pound long lean frame. Athletic in the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 92 mph. Started in a balanced wide stance with a slow small load, then used a controlled stride. Has a short level swing plane, efficient bat speed and high finish. Found multiple barrels with loud contacts. Gap to gap approach. Advanced showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 85 mph; has a quick clean exchange, smooth rhythmic feet, and next level sure hands. Fielded the ball out front with quick movement laterally. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a compact arm action and a ¾ slot. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.99. 


Cameron King 2B / RHP / Hagerty, FL / 2022

Bethune-Cookman Commit, 5-foot-8, 158-pound athletic projectable frame. Solid in the box, King clocked an exit velocity of 96 mph. Started in a tall athletic stance with a tight high load, then used a controlled stride. Has explosive bat speed, loose simple swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found lots of barrels with loud contact. Line drive approach. Confident in the infield, his best throw was registered at 83 mph; has fluid rhythmic feet, a natural fluid exchange, and twitchy consistent hands. Laterally, movements were quick and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a longer arm action and a high ¾ slot. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.82 60-yard dash. 


Simon Kohn 1B / OF / TNXL Academy, FL / 2022

6-foot-1, 200-pound mature solid frame. Above average in the box, Kohn had a max exit velocity of 91 mph. Began in a crouched open stance with a low wrapping load, then used a toe tap. Had efficient bat speed, long uphill swing plane and a back foot finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Up the middle approach. Capable in the infield, his best throw was recorded at 79 mph; had soft hands, quick footwork, and a quick exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. From a ¾ slot, showed consistent accuracy to the base with a short arm action.


Broc Parmer C / OF / Pace, FL / 2022

6-foot-3, 190-pound lean long frame. Smooth during batting practice, the left-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 92 mph. Starts in a crouched quiet stance with a controlled arm bar load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed is efficient, uses a short simple swing plane and good extension on his finish. Had loud contact and found lots of barrels. Line drive approach. Behind the plate, he made strong throws to second and produced an efficient position velocity of 79 mph; has twitchy sure hands, rhythmic feet, and a quick clean exchange. he produced a pop time of 2.18-2.25. Above average flexibility and staggered setup. Used a compact arm action with an-over-the-top slot while showing consistent accuracy to the base. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.96. 


Eddie-Boe Rodriguez SS / 2B / Island Coast, FL / 2022

Florida Gulf Coast Commit, 6-foot, 170-pound lean athletic frame. Fluid at the plate, Rodriguez had an exit velocity of 96 mph. Begins in a balanced tall stance with a tight compact load, then uses a quick stride. Bat speed was above average, displayed a simple level swing plane and level finish. Created a lot of loud contact and found lots of barrels. Line drive approach. Projectable in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 90 mph; showed consistent hands, a quick clean exchange, and smooth rhythmic feet. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were quick. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a quick arm action and a ¾ slot. Recorded a time of 7.16 in the 60-yard dash. 


Luis Rujano RHP / Sunshine State Elite Academy , FL / 2022

South Florida Commit, 6-foot-4, 185-pound long physical frame. Above average on the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action while showing above average arm speed. Tall-and-fall type pitcher who shows some effort. Showed low balance point with in line shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Threw his fastball 88-90 mph and topped out at 91 mph; has running action and control around the zone. 10/4 slider (77-78). 


Adrian Selles C / 3B / Central Pointe Christian Academy, FL / 2022

5-foot-11, 190-pound solid physical frame. Athletic in the box, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 94 mph. Began in a tall open stance with a controlled compact load, then used a leg kick. Bat speed is efficient, displays a simple loose swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found lots of barrels with loud contact. Pull side approach. While catching, throw downs to second were maxed at 76 mph; shows twitchy sure hands, quick smooth feet, and a quick clean exchange. he had a pop time of 2.00-2.18. Some flexibility and athletic setup. Used a high ¾ slot and a compact arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.84. 


Jacob Smith RHP / OF / Spanish River Community, FL / 2022

Pacific Commit, 6-foot-4, 220-pound solid physical frame. Solid at the plate, Smith recorded an exit velocity of 90 mph. Starts in a crouched wide stance with a compact wrapping load, then uses a quick stride. Bat speed is quick, has an uphill loose swing plane and high finish. He created loud contact and found multiple barrels. Pull side approach. Showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 86 mph. Confident In the outfield, had a natural lengthy exchange, sure consistent hands, and choppy rhythmic footwork. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball to the side. From a high ¾ slot, showed consistent accuracy to the base with a longer arm action. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.54. Fluid on the mound, showed above average arm speed, also used a high ¾ arm angle with a loose arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. Showed consistent balance point with in line shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Threw his fastball 85-87 mph and topped out at 89 mph; has slight running action and command in the zone. Throws a 10/4 curveball (71-75) with around the zone control. Showed control low in the zone and fading action on his changeup (76-78). 


Christian Soto 3B / 1B / Sunshine State Elite Academy , FL / 2022

Florida International Commit, 6-foot, 185-pound solid mature frame. Above average at the plate, Soto had an exit velocity of 93 mph. Begins in a balanced quiet stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Bat speed is efficient, uses a loose simple swing plane and high finish. Barreled up multiple balls with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Confident in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 85 mph; had fluid rhythmic footwork, a clean natural exchange, and sure consistent hands. Fields the ball deep, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a compact arm action and a ¾ slot. 


Jose Velez LHP / Sunshine State Elite Academy , FL / 2022

6-foot-5, 187-pound long lanky frame. Projectable on the mound, showed quick arm speed with a long arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses some effort. Showed tall balance point and downhill shoulders. Lands open with an upright finish. Sat with his fastball at 83-86 mph; has slight running action and consistent command. Has swing and miss action and control low in the zone on his 11/5 curveball (69-74). Had in the zone command and fading action on his changeup (77-80).
