2021 Future Games: Team Florida Analysis

The 2021 PBR Future Games has come and gone. The event featured the top uncommitted 2023 and 2024 players around the country representing their home state in front of over 350+ college coaches. Team Florida was a fun and talented squad who showcased their abilities all week. They would go 2-0-1 with wins over Carolina and Mid-Atlantic and a tie vs Georgia. So far, 7 players from Team Florida have gone on to land commitments.

Today, we will break down each member of Team Florida with scouting reports. The reports will break down each players tools and projection going forward.

Team Florida Analysis

Shawn Andrade SS / St. Johns Country Day, FL / 2023

South Florida Commit, 5-foot-11, 160-pound strong athletic build. Athletic during batting practice, Andrade recorded an exit velocity of 88 mph. Starts in a tall balanced stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a short toe tap stride. Bat speed is efficient, shows a short upward swing plane and high finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Up the middle gap to gap approach. Above average projectable while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 83 mph; shows athletic feet, a clean natural exchange, and next level hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a short quick arm action with a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.38.

Hunter Baynes RHP / IMG Academy, FL / 2023

6-foot-2, 195-pound strong physical build. Above average projectable on the mound, showing lightning quick arm speed he used a short quick arm action with a ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. Showed athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with recoil finish. Sat with his fastball at 89-92 mph with a max of 93 mph; throws a heavy fastball with hard running action and control around the zone. (Max spin 2563; Avg 2329). His sharp changeup (72-73) showed fading action and feel down in the zone command. His tight slider (68-72) shows swing and miss action and down in the zone control. (Max spin 2414; Avg 2322).

Breydan Calapa LHP / Orangewood Christian, FL / 2023

5-foot-11, 170-pound solid athletic frame. Solid on the mound, showing quick arm speed he used a long arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Has even shoulder with an athletic balance point. Lands square with an athletic finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 77-80 mph; throws a heavy fastball with gradual running action and control decent in the zone. (Max spin 2176; Avg 1958). His tight curveball (65-68) shows down in the zone control and hard swing and miss action. (Max spin 1984; Avg 1838). Shows fading action and feel both sides of the plate command on his sharp changeup (70-72).

Eric Correa OF / 1B / Montverde Academy, FL / 2023

5-foot-11, 175-pound strong athletic build. Projectable at the plate, the left-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 92 mph. Started in a tall balanced stance with a controlled rhythmic load, then used a short leg kick. Bat speed is electric, exhibits a short simple swing plane and high finish. Had a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap line drive approach. Above average throwing from the outfield, he displayed power in his arm with throws up to 88 mph; has soft consistent hands, a quick clean exchange, and smooth rhythmic feet. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used an-over-the-top slot and a long arm action. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.29.

Dallas Dale II OF / Mount Dora Christian Academy, FL / 2023

6-foot-1, 175-pound physical athletic build. Projectable during batting practice, the left-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 94 mph. Starts in a balanced crouched stance with a quick load, then uses a short controlled stride. Bat speed is explosive, has a short swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Athletic In the outfield, had a clean natural exchange, rhythmic footwork, and soft consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.9.

Robert Demetree SS / 3B / TNXL Academy, FL / 2023

6-foot, 185-pound strong athletic build. Projectable in the box, Demetree had a max exit velocity of 92 mph. Starts in a tall balanced stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed is explosive, shows an upward swing plane and high finish. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 94 mph; had smooth athletic footwork, a clean natural exchange, and soft consistent hands. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a ¾ slot and a short quick arm action. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.06.

Devin Fitz-Gerald SS / RHP / Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2024

5-foot-9, 160-pound solid athletic frame. Above average projectable in the box, the switch hitter had an exit velocity of 92 mph. Started in a strong balanced stance with a slow rhythmic load, then used a short controlled stride. Had electric bat speed, short simple swing plane and good extension on his finish. Produced a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Line drive gap to gap approach. Above average projectable showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 85 mph; has a quick clean exchange, next level soft hands, and smooth rhythmic feet. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a quick loose arm action and a ¾ slot. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.16.

Jayden Harriel 3B / 1B / East Lake , FL / 2024

6-foot-1, 210-pound strong athletic build. Projectable during batting practice, Harriel recorded an exit velocity of 97 mph. Begins in a tall balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a short controlled stride. Bat speed was explosive, showed a short simple swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 86 mph; has sure consistent hands, a clean natural exchange, and athletic feet. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a ¾ slot with a short quick arm action. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.19. Solid on the mound, used a ¾ arm angle with a short arm action while showing quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Has even shoulder and athletic balance point. JD Hay SS / RHP / Bolles , FL / 2023

6-foot-1, 178-pound solid athletic build. Solid projectable at the plate, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 91 mph. Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a short stride. Has explosive bat speed, short simple swing plane and level finish. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 89 mph; shows athletic feet, a clean natural exchange, and soft sure hands. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot and a quick loose arm action. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.16. Solid on the mound, showed quick consistent arm speed, also used a ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows some effort. Balance point is tall with even shoulders during delivery. Lands square with an athletic finish. Sat with his fastball at 85-88 mph; showed control decent around the zone and hard running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 1903; Avg 1775). Jack Mackinnon OF / LHP / Cardinal Mooney , FL / 2023

6-foot-4, 205-pound strong physical build. Solid projectable at the plate, the left-handed hitter was ranked 3rd with an exit velocity of 97 mph. Started in a balanced athletic stance with a quick load, then used a short leg kick. Bat speed was explosive, had an upward swing plane and level finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Aggressive pull side approach. Solid in the outfield, he showed a plus arm and had life on his throws with a position velocity of 88 mph; had consistent footwork, sure consistent hands, and a clean natural exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot with a long arm action. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.03. Solid projectable on the mound, showing quick arm speed he had a short quick arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Has even shoulder with an athletic balance point. Lands square with a falling off finish. Isaiah Mamea RHP / OF / St. Johns Country Day , FL / 2023

South Florida Commit, 6-foot-3, 170-pound solid athletic frame. Solid projectable on the mound, had a ¾ arm angle and a short arm action with quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Tall balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with an athletic balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 84-86 mph and topped out at 88 mph; has control around the zone and hard running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2082; Avg 1743). Threw a tight curveball (68-73) that showed down in the zone control and sweeping swing and miss action. (Max spin 2002; Avg 1923). Throws a sharp slider (72-73) that has some tight action and in the zone command. (Max spin 1947; Avg 1947).

Jacob McKenzie C / 3B / Winter Springs, FL / 2023

5-foot-10, 180-pound solid athletic build. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 92 mph. Starts in a tall balanced stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a short toe tap stride. Had an upward swing plane, quick efficient bat speed and high finish. Barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Behind the plate, throw downs to second were maxed at 77 mph; showed smooth athletic feet, a quick clean transfer, and soft consistent hands. showed his ability to throw runners out with an efficient pop time of 1.94-2.12. Tons of flexibility and athletic setup. Used a short arm action with a ¾ slot while showing consistent accuracy to the base. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.62.

Dillon Moquin OF / RHP / Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2023

Appalachian State Commit, 6-foot-1, 185-pound physical athletic frame. Above average projectable at the plate, the left-handed hitter's 99 mph exit velocity ranks him 2nd on Team Florida. Started in an athletic balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a short stride. Bat speed was electric, showed a short simple swing plane and high finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Above average when throwing from the outfield, he showed off his strong arm with throws at velocities of 92 mph; has a quick natural exchange, smooth athletic feet, and soft consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Used a high ¾ slot with a long quick arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the bag. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.92.

Darnell W. Parker Jr. SS / 2B / IMG Academy, FL / 2023

Washington State Commit, 6-foot, 170-pound strong athletic frame. Solid above average in the box, Parker clocked an exit velocity of 93 mph. Started in a crouched athletic stance with a quick controlled load, then used a short stride. Bat speed was explosive, used an upward swing plane and high finish. During his round he produced a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap line drive approach. Above average projectable showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 87 mph; shows next level consistent hands, a clean natural exchange, and athletic in control feet. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Used a ¾ slot with a short quick arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the base. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.17. 

Rhyder Poppell OF / 1B / Florida State University School, FL / 2023

5-foot-10, 190-pound strong solid build. Above average projectable during batting practice, Poppell had a max exit velocity of 95 mph. Began in an athletic balanced stance with a tight compact load, then used a short controlled stride. Bat speed was explosive above average, used a short flat swing plane and high finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Aggressive gap to gap approach. Solid in the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 79 mph; has a natural lengthy exchange, choppy feet, and sure firm hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. From a high ¾ slot, showed decent accuracy to the bag with a short arm action. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.68 60-yard dash.

Peyton Prescott SS / RHP / TNXL Academy, FL / 2023

5-foot-11, 175-pound strong solid frame. Solid athletic during batting practice, Prescott had an exit velocity of 94 mph. Starts in a tall balanced stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a short leg kick. Bat speed is explosive, uses a short upward swing plane and high finish. Found lots of barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 91 mph; shows soft consistent hands, smooth athletic feet, and a clean natural exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Showed a low ¾ slot and a long arm action with consistent accuracy to the base. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.24. Solid projectable on the mound, had a ¾ arm angle and a long quick arm action with quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses some effort. Displays even shoulders with an consistent athletic balance point. Lands square with a falling off finish. Sat with his fastball at 85-88 mph with a max of 90 mph; shows command around the zone and hard running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2347; Avg 2044). He showed tight sweeping action and decent down in the zone command on his tight curveball (73-75). (Max spin 2502; Avg 2370). Has in the zone command and fading action on his sharp changeup (77-79).

Collin Priest 1B / Mount Dora Christian Academy, FL / 2023

Virginia Commonwealth Commit, 6-foot-3, 215-pound physical athletic frame. Above average projectable at the plate, Priest was ranked 1st on Team Florida with an exit velocity of 102 mph. Starts in a tall open stance with a slow rhythmic load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed was explosive, had a short upward swing plane and high finish. He produced tons of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Aggressive gap to gap approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 83 mph; had sure hands, a clean exchange, and choppy smooth footwork. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were average. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a long arm action with a ¾ slot. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.27.

Drew Reaves SS / 3B / J.M. Tate, FL / 2023

6-foot-2, 190-pound solid athletic build. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 93 mph. Started in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth controlled load, then used a short quick stride. Has quick efficient bat speed, short simple swing plane and level finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Line drive up the middle approach. Solid in the infield, his position velocity was registered at 81 mph; showed a quick clean exchange, rhythmic feet, and soft consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Had a low ¾ slot and a short arm action with consistent accuracy to the base. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.18.

Christian Rodriguez RHP / OF / Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2023

5-foot-11, 187-pound solid athletic build. Solid projectable in the box, Rodriguez's best exit velocity was 96 mph. Began in a tall balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a short leg kick. Has a short upward swing plane, explosive bat speed and high finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Justin Ruiz C / OF / Doral Academy, FL / 2023

High Point Commit, 5-foot-8, 165-pound solid physical build. Solid during batting practice, Ruiz clocked an exit velocity of 88 mph. Began in a balanced crouched stance with a smooth controlled load, then used a short stride. Bat speed is quick efficient, has a short simple swing plane and high finish. Found lots of barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. While catching, his best position velocity throwing to second was registered at 77 mph; had athletic footwork, a quick natural transfer, and next level consistent hands. displayed next-level catching ability by boasting a 1.89-1.94 pop time. Tons of flexibility and athletic setup. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a ¾ slot and a short arm action.

Ryan Rushing LHP / IMG Academy, FL / 2023

5-foot-9, 170-pound solid athletic frame. Solid projectable on the mound, used a ¾ arm angle with a long arm action while showing quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Displays even shoulders and an athletic balance point. Lands square with an athletic balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 83-85 mph with a max of 86 mph; had late running action and control around the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2472; Avg 2246). Throws a sharp curveball (70-75) with down in the zone command and tight swing and miss action. (Max spin 2494; Avg 2278).

Gavin Thomas OF / RHP / The Master's Academy, FL / 2023

6-foot-1, 175-pound long athletic build. Solid athletic at the plate, Thomas recorded an exit velocity of 96 mph. Began in a tall balanced stance with a smooth controlled load, then used a short quick stride. Bat speed is electric, uses an upward swing plane and high finish. He barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid athletic in the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 86 mph; has sure consistent hands, a quick natural exchange, and consistent choppy feet. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a high ¾ slot and a long arm action. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.78 60-yard dash. Capable on the mound, showing quick arm speed he used a ¾ arm angle with a short quick arm action. Tall-and-fall type pitcher who shows some effort. Showed athletic balance point with even shoulders. Lands open with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 81-83 mph; showed tailing action and command decent around the zone with hard movement. (Max spin 1999; Avg 1892). Showed in the zone command and slurvey action on his sharp curveball (69-71). (Max spin 1670; Avg 1670).

Andrew Williamson OF / 1B / Northside Christian, FL / 2023

UCF commit. 6-foot, 180-pound strong athletic frame. Above average projectable during batting practice, Williamson recorded an exit velocity of 96 mph. Begins in a tall balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a short controlled stride. Has a short swing plane, electric bat speed and high finish. Barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Above average projectable in the outfield, he used momentum and arm strength to record throws up to 89 mph;has a clean natural exchange, next level consistent hands, and athletic in control feet. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a long arm action with a high ¾ slot. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.82 60-yard dash.
