2021 Junior State Games: East Region Analysis

The 2021 Junior State Games took place Saturday, October 16th and Sunday, October 17th at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona, FL. The event featured players from the 2023 class representing their region of North, South, East, or West Florida participating in a pro-style workout followed by 3 total games per region in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

The weekend was full of talent from all 4 regions, but the East finished at the top going 3-0 throughout the event. To view all the stats from the event, check out our Stats Story. Today, we will continue with our Player Analysis breaking down each player's tools and projection through complete scouting reports. We will continue with the East Region. Take a look.

East Region Analysis

Adekide Adetuyi LHP / 1B / Merritt Island, FL / 2023

Florida Atlantic Commit, 6-foot-1, 180-pound solid athletic build. Solid on the mound, showing lightning arm speed he had a ¾ arm angle and a short arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Has an athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands open with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 80-82 mph and topped out at 83 mph; has a heavy fastball that shows command around the zone and running action. (Max spin 2179; Avg 1988). Showed swing and miss action and down in the zone command on his tight curveball (70-72). (Max spin 2343; Avg 2208). His sharp changeup (70-75) has plus fading action and in the zone command.

Mark Alvelo SS / 3B / St Joseph's Academy, FL / 2023

5-foot-10, 165-pound strong lean frame. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 89 mph. (64.93 mph bat speed average). (19.42 mph hand speed average). Began in a tall balanced stance with a slow controlled load, then used a short toe tap stride. Bat speed is efficient, shows an upward swing plane and high finish. Through his round he found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Smooth in the infield, his best throw was recorded at 74 mph; has soft consistent hands, a clean natural exchange, and athletic feet. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a quick arm action with a ¾ slot. Clocked a 60 time of 7.39 at the event.

Logan Chapman 3B / SS / Lake Brantley, FL / 2023

Stetson Commit, 6-foot-1, 180-pound strong physical build. Above average in the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 96 mph. (69.16 mph bat speed average). (21.76 mph hand speed average). Began in a tall stance with a slow controlled load, then used a short leg kick. Has electric bat speed, short uphill swing plane and high finish. Created a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap approach. Above average while in the infield, made throws up to 78 mph; shows soft consistent hands, smooth athletic feet, and a clean natural exchange. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Had a short arm action and a ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base.

Grayson Christie RHP / OF / Holy Trinity Melbourne, FL / 2023

6-foot, 171-pound lean solid frame. Smooth in the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 84 mph. (62.91 mph bat speed average). (19.31 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall stance with a slow controlled load, then uses a short toe tap stride. Bat speed was efficient, showed a short swing plane and level finish. He barreled up some balls with some loud contact. Base hit approach. Capable recorded an outfield position velocity of 81 mph; shows consistent hands, a clean exchange, and choppy feet. Movements laterally were average and he fields the ball out front. Decent accuracy to the bag, used an-over-the-top slot and a long arm action. Clocked a 60 time of 7.21 at the event. Solid on the mound, showed consistent arm speed, also used a long arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. Showed athletic balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with recoil finish. Threw his fastball 81-83 mph. Had hard action and control around the zone with straight movement. (Max spin 1772; Avg 1673). Throws his tight curveball with slurvey action and in the zone command.

Cade Davidson RHP / 2B / Rockledge, FL / 2023

6-foot-1, 170-pound long lean build. Solid on the mound, had a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action with quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses easy effort. Tall balance point with even shoulders. Lands open with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 80-83 mph with a max of 85 mph; throws a heavy fastball with slight running action and command around the zone. (Max spin 2446; Avg 2239). Has swing and miss action and down in the zone control on his tight curveball (66-69). (Max spin 2341; Avg 2226).

Chance Fitzgerald RHP / Lake Howell, FL / 2023

Florida State Commit, 6-foot-2, 185-pound strong athletic build. Above average projectable on the mound, showed lightning quick arm speed, also used a ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses decent effort. Tall balance point with in line shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Sat with his fastball at 89-91 mph; showed slight running action and control around the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2504; Avg 2377). Had a tight curveball (74-75) that showed slurvey action and in the zone control. (Max spin 2410; Avg 2365). Showed slight fading action and in the zone command on his sharp changeup (83-84). Showed swing and miss action and down in the zone command on his wipeout slider (77-78). (Max spin 2354; Avg 2352).

Lucas Glendinning RHP / 3B / Viera , FL / 2023

6-foot-4, 205-pound solid mature build. Solid projectable on the mound, showing quick arm speed he had a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. During his delivery balance point is tall with even shoulders. Lands square with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 83-85 mph and topped out at 87 mph; has control around the zone and slight running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2292; Avg 2130). He shows down in the zone command and slurvey action on his tight curveball (66-69). (Max spin 2272; Avg 2154). Showed in the zone control and fading action on his sharp changeup (74-77).

Ty Grover 3B / 1B / Springstead , FL / 2023

5-foot-11, 185-pound strong athletic frame. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 98 mph. (71.42 mph bat speed average). (23.65 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced athletic stance with a quick load, then uses a short leg kick. Bat speed was quick, showed a flat swing plane and level finish. Found some barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, his best throw was recorded at 77 mph; showed choppy feet, a clean exchange, and consistent hands. Movements laterally were average and he fields the ball deep. Decent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot with a long arm action. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.65.

Logan Hughes 1B / OF / Winter Springs, FL / 2023

Stetson Commit, 5-foot-11, 193-pound strong solid frame. Above average projectable during batting practice, Hughes displayed an exit velocity of 98 mph, 3rd Highest at the event. (77.09 mph bat speed average). (21.23 mph hand speed average). Began in a tall athletic stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a short stride. Bat speed is electric, displays a short upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Aggressive gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, displayed a velocity of 79 mph; has choppy feet, consistent hands, and a clean exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were average. Decent accuracy to the bag, used a short arm action and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.06. 

Ethan Hummel LHP / Orangewood Christian, FL / 2023

5-foot-10, 170-pound athletic frame. Solid on the mound, showed consistent arm speed with a long arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Tall balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 78-82 mph and topped out at 84 mph; shows slight running action and control around the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2445; Avg 2173). Had in the zone command and slurvey action on his tight curveball (65-68). (Max spin 2566; Avg 2422).

Derek Lopez C / RHP / Olympia, FL / 2023

Florida International Commit, 5-foot-11, 165-pound lean athletic build. Solid athletic in the box, the switch hitter had a max exit velocity of 96 mph. (67.83 mph bat speed average). (18.66 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall stance with an arm bar load, then used a short stride. Had quick bat speed, upward swing plane and high finish. Through his round he found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. While catching, throw downs to second topped out at 78 mph; showed a quick clean transfer, smooth athletic feet, and soft hands. displayed next-level catching ability by boasting a 1.90-1.97 pop time. Athletic setup with tons of flexibility. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a high ¾ slot with a short arm action. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.59 60-yard dash. Solid on the mound, used a short arm action and a ¾ arm angle while showing quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows some effort. He has even shoulders and a consistent balance point. Lands square with an athletic finish. Sat with his fastball at 82-84 mph and topped out at 85 mph; has a heavy fastball that showed command in the zone and slight running action. (Max spin 2150; Avg 2019). Threw a tight curveball (65-68) with slurvey action and down in the zone control. (Max spin 1884; Avg 1787).

Lucas Oliver OF / RHP / Deland, FL / 2023

5-foot-10, 160-pound lean athletic build. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 89 mph. (65.54 mph bat speed average). (21.41 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance with a small load, then used a short stride. Bat speed is efficient, uses a level swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found some barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Smooth in the outfield, his throws to the bases were maxed out at 83 mph; has a clean natural exchange, choppy feet, and consistent hands. Fields the ball to the side, movements laterally were average. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot and a long arm action. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.46.

Collin Priest 1B / Mount Dora Christian Academy, FL / 2023

Virginia Commonwealth Commit, 6-foot-3, 215-pound solid mature build. Above average projectable at the plate, Priest was ranked 2nd with an exit velocity of 101 mph. (75.38 mph bat speed average). (21.37 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a controlled leg kick. Bat speed is electric, has an upward swing plane and high finish. He barreled up multiple balls with tons of loud contact. Aggressive gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, recorded a position velocity of 79 mph; has a clean exchange, consistent hands, and smooth feet. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Showed a short arm action and a ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. Clocked a time of 7.1 in the 60-yard dash.

Jake Richardson OF / Melbourne, FL / 2023

5-foot-10, 165-pound strong athletic frame. Above average projectable in the box, Richardson had a max exit velocity of 97 mph. (68.88 mph bat speed average). (19.68 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a leg kick. Has a short swing plane, electric bat speed and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with tons of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Above average his best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 87 mph; has sure consistent hands, smooth athletic feet, and a clean natural exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Used a ¾ slot and a long arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the base. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.6.

Caleb Scott SS / 2B / Bishop Moore, FL / 2023

Lipscomb Commit, 5-foot-10, 155-pound lean athletic build. Solid in the box, Scott had a max exit velocity of 89 mph. (64.86 mph bat speed average). (20.00 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall athletic stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a short controlled stride. Bat speed was efficient, showed an upward swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid projectable in the infield, recorded a position velocity of 79 mph; had a clean natural exchange, smooth footwork, and consistent soft hands. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Showed a ¾ slot and a short arm action with consistent accuracy to the bag.

P. Alex Sosa C / 3B / Viera, FL / 2023

North Carolina State Commit, 6-foot, 185-pound solid athletic build. Above average projectable in the box, Sosa clocked an exit velocity of 97 mph. (67.43 mph bat speed average). (21.19 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a slow rhythmic load, then uses a short quick stride. Bat speed is electric, uses a short swing plane and good extension on his finish. Through his round he found multiple barrels with tons of loud contact. Aggressive gap to gap approach. Behind the plate, he made strong, efficient throws to second at velocities up to 79 mph; has quick athletic feet, a quick clean transfer, and next level hands. displayed his ability to control the run game with a pop time of 1.89-2.00. Clean setup with tons of flexibility. Showed a ¾ slot and a short arm action with consistent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.06.

Conner Spelman C / OF / Lake Howell , FL / 2023

6-foot-3, 200-pound long athletic build. Solid during batting practice, Spelman had a max exit velocity of 95 mph. (66.47 mph bat speed average). (20.07 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall balanced stance with a slow controlled load, then used a leg kick. Has electric bat speed, upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Behind the plate, his best position velocity throwing to second was registered at 77 mph; has quick feet, a clean natural transfer, and soft hands. displayed his ability to control the run game with a pop time of 1.91-2.01. Staggered setup with tons of flexibility. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a ¾ slot and a long arm action. Recorded a time of 7.52 in the 60-yard dash.

Joey Wimpelberg RHP / SS / Winter Springs, FL / 2023

Central Florida Commit, 6-foot, 165-pound long athletic build. Solid projectable on the mound, showing quick arm speed he had a ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses decent effort. Tall balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with balanced finish. Threw his fastball 85-87 mph and topped out at 88 mph; shows control around the zone and hard running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2320; Avg 2204). He showed swing and miss action and down in the zone command on his tight curveball (72-75). (Max spin 2385; Avg 2221). His sharp changeup (78-79) had fading action and in the zone control.
