2021 Junior State Games: North Region Analysis

The 2021 Junior State Games took place Saturday, October 16th and Sunday, October 17th at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona, FL. The event featured players from the 2023 class representing their region of North, South, East, or West Florida participating in a pro-style workout followed by 3 total games per region in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

The weekend was full of talent from all 4 regions, but the East finished at the top going 3-0 throughout the event. To view all the stats from the event, check out our Stats Story. Today we will start with our Player Analysis breaking down each player's tools and projection through complete scouting reports. We will start with the North Region. Take a look.

North Region Analysis

Shawn Andrade SS / 2B / St. Johns Country Day, FL / 2023

South Florida Commit, 5-foot-11, 160-pound lean athletic frame. Fluid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 88 mph. (66.91 mph bat speed average). (18.54 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance with a tight load, then used a short quick stride. Bat speed is efficient above average, shows a short simple swing plane and level good extension on his finish. He produced loud contact and found multiple barrels. Line drive up the middle approach. Smooth confident in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 87 mph; shows twitchy soft hands, a clean natural exchange, and athletic in control feet. Laterally, movements were quick and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a short quick arm action with a high ¾ slot.

Zack DeJesus OF / 1B / Pensacola Catholic, FL / 2023

6-foot, 190-pound solid physical frame. Raw & projectable in the box, Dejesus had an exit velocity of 96 mph. (70.17 mph bat speed average). (21.28 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced wide stance with a tight compact load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed was flashed explosive, had a simple level swing plane and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 73 mph; shows sure consistent hands, a clean fluid exchange, and rhythmic feet. Capable confident from the outfield, his best throws to the bases were registered at 78 mph; showed fluid aggressive feet, soft hands, and a natural exchange. Laterally, movements were average and fielded the ball out front. Using a loose arm action, showed decent accuracy to the base from a high ¾ slot. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.96.

JD Hay SS / RHP / Bolles , FL / 2023

6-foot-1, 190-pound long solid build. Solid & confident at the plate, Hay had an exit velocity of 92 mph. (70.00 mph bat speed average). (22.57 mph hand speed average). Starts in an athletic tall stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a controlled stride. Bat speed is quick efficient, displays a simple loose swing plane and high back foot finish. In the round he found lots of barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Athletic solid in the outfield, his throws to the bases were maxed out at 86 mph; had a natural fluid exchange, sure consistent hands, and rhythmic in control footwork. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a quick compact arm action with a high ¾ slot. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.91.

Jedd Jones C / 1B / North Florida Christian, FL / 2023

6-foot, 200-pound solid sturdy frame. Solid & capable during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 93 mph. (69.05 mph bat speed average). (20.53 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced quiet stance with a tight load, then used a toe tap quick stride. Bat speed was flashed above average, had a short simple swing plane and high good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. While catching, he produced a position velocity of 73 mph during throw downs; had a clean quick transfer, twitchy sure hands, and consistent in control footwork. recorded a pop time of 2.00-2.11. Average flexibility and wide staggered setup. Showed decent accuracy to the bag with a high ¾ slot and a short quick arm action. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.65.

Alexander Kastensmidt 3B / SS / Buchholz, FL / 2023

6-foot-2, 190-pound lean long frame. Smooth & athletic during batting practice, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 97 mph. (71.76 mph bat speed average). (20.85 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced athletic stance with a tight compact load, then used a controlled leg kick. Had an upward loose swing plane, above average bat speed and high good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid confident while in the infield, made throws up to 78 mph; had athletic fluid footwork, soft sure hands, and a clean natural exchange. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Showed athletic slot and a short quick arm action with consistent accuracy to the base. Clocked a 60 time of 7.0 at the event.

Nicholas Lorenz RHP / Spruce Creek, FL / 2023

6-foot, 165-pound lanky long build. Smooth & confident on the mound, showed a ¾ arm angle and a loose clean arm action with quick consistent arm speed. Stretch only type pitcher who shows decent effort. Displays even shoulders with an athletic balance point. Lands closed and soft with a clean finish. Sat with his fastball at 84-86 mph and topped out at 87 mph; has command decent around the zone and late running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2265; Avg 2098). Threw a 10/4 slider (73-75) with sweeping slurvey action and glove side control. (Max spin 2311; Avg 2183).

Larson Lott C / OF / Hernando Christian Academy, FL / 2023

6-foot, 160-pound lanky slim build. Capable during batting practice, Lott had an exit velocity of 83 mph. (60.28 mph bat speed average). (18.86 mph hand speed average). Started in an athletic crouched stance with a smooth tight load, then used a controlled long stride. Bat speed is raw, exhibits a loose upward swing plane and high finish. He barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive approach. While catching, his best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 73 mph; showed consistent in control feet, twitchy hands, and a clean natural transfer. recorded pop times of 2.10-2.25. Wide flexible setup with above average flexibility. Used a short very quick arm action with a high ¾ slot while showing decent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.35.

Rilee Lowery 1B / RHP / J.M. Tate, FL / 2023

6-foot-3, 170-pound lean long frame. Confident & capable in the box, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 89 mph. (65.52 mph bat speed average). (19.80 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall quiet stance with a rhythmic tight load, then uses a controlled big leg kick. Bat speed was flashed efficient, displayed a loose upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Solid confident on the mound, showing good consistent arm speed he used a very quick clean arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive up-tempo type pitcher who shows high effort. Has a strong balance point and uphill shoulders. Lands soft with recoil finish. Sat with his fastball at 82-84 mph and topped out at 85 mph; shows control decent around the zone with sharp movement. Isaiah Mamea RHP / OF / St. Johns Country Day , FL / 2023

South Florida Commit, 6-foot-3, 180-pound long lengthy frame. Advanced & confident on the mound, showed consistent above average arm speed, he had a high ¾ arm angle with a loose clean arm action. Drop-and-drive feel type pitcher and shows decent effort. Displays uphill shoulders and a low balance point. Lands square with upright clean finish. Threw his fastball 86-88 mph and topped out at 90 mph; had both sides of the plate command and hard action. (Max spin 2252; Avg 1950). Ethan McAnally 3B / RHP / J.M. Tate, FL / 2023

Began in an athletic tall stance with a tight compact load, then used a controlled toe tap stride. Bat speed is efficient above average, has a simple uphill swing plane and high finish. Solid confident on the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle with a consistent clean arm action while showing some good arm speed. Drop-and-drive slow-tempo type pitcher who shows decent effort. Displays in line shoulders and an athletic balance point. Lands square and soft with balanced finish. Threw his fastball 78-80 mph. showed control feel around the zone. (Max spin 2056; Avg 2016). Drew Reaves SS / 3B / J.M. Tate, FL / 2023

6-foot-2, 190-pound athletic physical frame. Smooth & athletic during batting practice, Reaves best exit velocity was 94 mph. (65.59 mph bat speed average). (22.83 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced athletic stance with a rhythmic compact load, then uses a short quick stride. Had a simple loose swing plane, quick efficient bat speed and high good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap aggressive approach. Confident advanced in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 85 mph; showed consistent rhythmic feet, a clean fluid exchange, and soft sure hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used athletic slot and a quick compact arm action. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.98 60-yard dash.

Anthony Saleeba C / Bartram Trail, FL / 2023

South Florida Commit, 5-foot-19, 185-pound athletic solid build. Smooth & above average at the plate, Saleeba had a max exit velocity of 91 mph. (68.00 mph bat speed average). (19.70 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced quiet stance with a small tight load, then used a short controlled stride. Bat speed is explosive, displays a short simple swing plane and high good extension on his finish. Was able to create loud contact and found lots of barrels. Gap to gap pull side approach. While catching, throw downs to second topped out at 75 mph; showed athletic quick feet, a quick clean transfer, and twitchy sure hands. he produced a pop time of 2.04-2.16. Above average flexibility and athletic wide setup. Showed a short very quick arm action and a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base.

Will Studebaker RHP / 1B / Bolles, FL / 2023

6-foot-3, 175-pound long lanky frame. Raw & confident during batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 91 mph. (69.14 mph bat speed average). (24.71 mph hand speed average). Began in an athletic active stance with a quick arm bar load, then used a short quick stride. Bat speed is raw above average, exhibits a short level swing plane and level finish. Had a lot of loud contact and found some barrels. Line drive pull side approach. Capable in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 86 mph; showed choppy rhythmic feet, consistent hands, and a fluid natural exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Used a compact loose arm action with a high ¾ slot while showing decent accuracy to the base. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.1. Confident capable on the mound, used a loose clean arm action with a high ¾ arm angle while showing quick above average arm speed. Tilt-and-topple stretch only type pitcher who shows decent effort. Even shoulders with an athletic balance point. Lands soft with recoil finish. Sat with his fastball at 83-85 mph and topped out at 86 mph; showed slight running action and command around the zone. (Max spin 2343; Avg 2037). Had both sides of the plate control and late action on his 11/5 curveball (72-75). (Max spin 2484; Avg 2164). Shows fading action and arm side control on his heavy changeup (73-76).

Jacob Thomas LHP / 1B / St. Johns Country Day, FL / 2023

6-foot-1, 195-pound mature solid frame. Advanced, confident on the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle and a loose longer arm action while showing good consistent arm speed. Drop-and-drive feel type pitcher who shows decent effort. He has even in line shoulders with an strong athletic balance point. Lands square and soft with a clean balanced finish. Threw his fastball 81-84 mph; has arm side decent command and late running action. (Max spin 2497; Avg 2298). Threw his 12/6 curveball (72-75) with tight action and decent around the zone command. (Max spin 2497; Avg 2359). His heavy changeup (72-74) had feel arm side command and fading action.

Jack Trochessett SS / C / Port St Joe, FL / 2023

5-foot-5, 140-pound athletic projectable frame. Confident, raw at the plate, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 87 mph. (59.38 mph bat speed average). (17.80 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced quiet stance with a controlled tight load, then uses a short quick stride. Confident capable in the infield, displayed a velocity of 72 mph; had consistent developing hands, choppy footwork, and a clean fluid exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were raw. Used a consistent longer arm action with a high ¾ slot while showing consistent accuracy to the base.

JD Valdes RHP / 1B / Gaither , FL / 2023

6-foot-1, 170-pound lean lanky frame. Solid, capable on the mound, showed consistent arm speed, also used an over-the-top arm angle and a longer loose arm action. Feel up-tempo type pitcher who uses high effort. Showed athletic balance point and in line uphill shoulders. Lands square with a clean balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 78-81 mph; showed control around the zone decent with sharp movement. (Max spin 2116; Avg 1935). Has a sharp 12/6 curveball (63-64) that showed decent down in the zone command and gradual action. (Max spin 2212; Avg 2144). Throws a heavy changeup (67-70) that has glove side control and late action.
