2021 Junior State Games: South Region Analysis

The 2021 Junior State Games took place Saturday, October 16th and Sunday, October 17th at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona, FL. The event featured players from the 2023 class representing their region of North, South, East, or West Florida participating in a pro-style workout followed by 3 total games per region in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

The weekend was full of talent from all 4 regions, but the East finished at the top going 3-0 throughout the event. To view all the stats from the event, check out our Stats Story. Today, we will continue with our Player Analysis breaking down each player's tools and projection through complete scouting reports. We will continue with the South Region. Take a look.

South Region Analysis

Kristoffer Blanks 1B / LHP / Dwyer, FL / 2023

5-foot-11, 180-pound mature athletic frame. Solid in the box, Blanks recorded an exit velocity of 98 mph. (65.66 mph bat speed average). (21.76 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall stance with a quick arm bar load, then uses a leg kick. Has electric bat speed, upward loose swing plane and good extension on his finish. He created a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid in the infield, displayed a velocity of 82 mph; had soft consistent hands, a clean exchange, and smooth footwork. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a high ¾ slot with a short arm action. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.25. Solid athletic on the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle with a loose arm action while showing quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Showed athletic balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with balanced finish. Sat with his fastball at 80-83 mph with a max of 84 mph; throws a heavy fastball with slight running action and control around the zone. (Max spin 2266; Avg 2129). Has a tight curveball (66-68) that shows slurvey action and down in the zone command. (Max spin 2814; Avg 2689). His sharp changeup (75-76) has in the zone control and fading action.

Nicholas Bofill OF / 1B / Westminster Christian, FL / 2023

6-foot-2, 182-pound lean athletic build. Solid at the plate, Bofill recorded an exit velocity of 94 mph. (69.11 mph bat speed average). (22.08 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced stance with a compact load, then uses a short controlled stride. Bat speed was quick, used a simple loose swing plane and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid from the outfield, he made throws to the infield at velocities up to 85 mph; has athletic feet, a quick clean exchange, and consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed decent accuracy to the bag with a high ¾ slot and a consistent arm action. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.86.

Augusto Calienes RHP / OF / Pembroke Pines Charter, FL / 2023

5-foot-9, 170-pound athletic frame. Solid on the mound, showed consistent arm speed, also used a quick loose arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses easy effort. Showed athletic balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with recoil finish. Threw his fastball 82-84 mph and topped out at 86 mph; shows slight running action and command around the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 1995; Avg 1893). Threw his tight curveball (65-68) with down in the zone command and slurvey action. (Max spin 2071; Avg 1942). His sharp changeup (72-77) showed in the zone command and fading action.

Carlos Celta 1B / OF / Florida Virtual, FL / 2023

6-foot-3, 190-pound solid athletic frame. Solid in the box, Celta clocked an exit velocity of 93 mph. (67.39 mph bat speed average). (20.97 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall balanced stance with a quick controlled load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed was quick, showed a short upward swing plane and high finish. He found some barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Smooth in the infield, displayed a velocity of 78 mph; has smooth feet, consistent hands, and a clean exchange. Solid from the outfield, his best throws to the bases were registered at 80 mph; shows smooth feet, a natural exchange, and soft consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot and a long arm action. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.32.

Michael Farina RHP / 3B / Gulf Coast, FL / 2023

5-foot-8, 172-pound solid athletic build. Solid at the plate, Farina recorded an exit velocity of 89 mph. (63.01 mph bat speed average). (21.14 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a short leg kick. Bat speed was quick, used an upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Smooth in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 87 mph; has sure consistent hands, smooth athletic feet, and a clean natural exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a ¾ slot and a long arm action. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.93 60-yard dash. Solid on the mound, had a ¾ arm angle and a short arm action with quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses easy effort. Tall balance point with in line shoulders. Lands square with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 81-84 mph and topped out at 85 mph; had a heavy fastball that showed tailing action and control around the zone. (Max spin 2210; Avg 2093). Had slurvey action and in the zone command on his tight curveball (68-70). (Max spin 1963; Avg 1892). Had fading action and in the zone control on his sharp changeup (73-75).

Sebastian Granobles RHP / COHEA , FL / 2023

5-foot-6, 160-pound solid frame. Capable on the mound, showed consistent arm speed with a long arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Showed consistent balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 74-79 mph and topped out at 80 mph; showed command around the zone and slight running action. (Max spin 2206; Avg 1751). Has in the zone control and slurvey action on his tight curveball (68-71). (Max spin 2340; Avg 1944). Has a straight changeup (69-73) that showed command around the zone and slight fading action. Has a sharp slider (72-73) that showed down in the zone command and tight sweeping action. (Max spin 1579; Avg 1500).

Andrew Ildefonso RHP / 1B / Archbishop McCarthy, FL / 2023

6-foot-2, 205-pound strong athletic build. Solid on the mound, showing quick arm speed he had a ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. Displays even shoulders with an consistent balance point. Lands square with a falling off finish. Sat with his fastball at 83-87 mph; had command around the zone and slight cutting action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2635; Avg 2361). Has sweeping action and down in the zone command on his tight slider (74-78). (Max spin 2580; Avg 2048).

Joeshua Lopez-Torres OF / OF / St. Lucie West Centennial , FL / 2023

5-foot-11, 150-pound lean athletic build. Solid in the box, the left-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 95 mph. (67.05 mph bat speed average). (22.04 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall balanced stance with a small load, then used a controlled leg kick. Bat speed is electric, has a level swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Solid in the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 83 mph; has a clean exchange, consistent hands, and smooth athletic feet. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed a long arm action and a low ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.09.

Eduardo Maldonado RHP / Sunshine State Elite Academy, FL / 2023

6-foot-4, 200-pound solid mature frame. Solid on the mound, showed consistent arm speed, also used a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses decent effort. Balance point is tall with an in line shoulders during delivery. Lands square with balanced finish. Sat with his fastball at 77-80 mph and topped out at 82 mph; has slight running action and control around the zone with straight movement. (Max spin 1910; Avg 1792). Threw his sharp changeup (74-76) with fading action and in the zone control. Throws a tight slider (71-75) that shows down in the zone command and slurvey action. (Max spin 2225; Avg 2047).

Dillon Moquin OF / RHP / Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2023

Appalachian State Commit, 6-foot-1, 195-pound strong athletic build. Above average projectable during batting practice, the left-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 96 mph. (68.75 mph bat speed average). (19.49 mph hand speed average). Began in a tall quiet stance with a quick controlled load, then used a short stride. Bat speed was electric, showed an uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. He produced tons of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Aggressive gap to gap approach. Above average throwing from the outfield, he displayed power in his arm with throws up to 90 mph; had a clean natural exchange, consistent hands, and athletic footwork. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Had an-over-the-top slot and a long arm action with consistent accuracy to the base. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.84 60-yard dash. Solid on the mound, showed consistent arm speed, also used a long arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. Tall balance point with even shoulders. Lands open with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 81-83 mph with a max of 84 mph; shows control in the zone and slight running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2191; Avg 2092). Threw a tight curveball (66-67) with down in the zone command and slurvey action. (Max spin 2030; Avg 2030). He showed fading action and in the zone command on his sharp changeup (76-78).

Edward Paneque SS / 3B / COHEA, FL / 2023

5-foot-9, 150-pound lean athletic build. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 93 mph. (64.80 mph bat speed average). (22.13 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a short stride. Had a short simple swing plane, efficient bat speed and high finish. He barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws up to 84 mph; had smooth athletic footwork, sure consistent hands, and a clean natural exchange. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a long arm action and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.19.

Milo Partridge LHP / Edgewater, FL / 2023

6-foot-3, 175-pound long lean frame. Solid on the mound, showed a loose arm action and a ¾ arm angle with consistent arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses easy effort. He has even shoulders with an athletic balance point. Lands square with balanced finish. Threw his fastball 78-81 mph and topped out at 83 mph; shows running action and command around the zone with sharp movement. (Max spin 2234; Avg 2115).

Emmanuel Perez SS / 2B / Coral Gables Senior, FL / 2023

5-foot-11, 160-pound lean athletic frame. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 92 mph. (69.67 mph bat speed average). (19.06 mph hand speed average). Began in a tall narrow stance with a quick load, then used a leg kick. Bat speed is explosive, has a short swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contacts. Gap to gap approach. Smooth while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 75 mph; has a clean natural exchange, smooth rhythmic feet, and consistent hands. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a long arm action and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.2.

Pedro Rivera C / 2B / Manuel Cruz Maceira, PR / 2023

5-foot-5, 147-pound lean frame. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 85 mph. (60.34 mph bat speed average). (17.70 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall stance with a quick load, then used a leg kick. Bat speed was efficient, displayed an upward swing plane and high finish. He found some barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid in the infield, his position velocity was registered at 75 mph; had a clean exchange, consistent hands, and choppy footwork. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were average. While catching, he recorded a position velocity of 68 mph during throw downs; has consistent feet, consistent hands, and a quick natural transfer. he had a pop time of 2.05-2.20. A lot of flexibility and athletic setup. From a high ¾ slot, showed decent accuracy to the bag with a short arm action. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.8.

Brayden Slade C / OF / Monarch, FL / 2023

6-foot, 155-pound athletic build. Solid during batting practice, Slade recorded an exit velocity of 89 mph. (60.90 mph bat speed average). (18.38 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall balanced stance with a quick load, then used a short stride. Has a short swing plane, quick bat speed and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Behind the plate, his best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 76 mph; showed a quick clean transfer, soft hands, and smooth athletic feet. consistently had pop times of 2.04-2.18. Staggered setup with tons of flexibility. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a long arm action with a high ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.16.

Adrian Vidal SS / 2B / Florida Christian, FL / 2023

6-foot-1, 180-pound solid athletic build. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 93 mph. (68.85 mph bat speed average). (21.56 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall balanced stance with a quick load, then uses a short quick stride. Bat speed is electric, exhibits a short upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Was able to create a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap approach. Solid advanced in the infield, his best throw was registered at 82 mph; showed a quick clean exchange, soft consistent hands, and smooth athletic feet. Jake Weatherspoon C / 3B / Melbourne, FL / 2023

6-foot, 190-pound solid athletic frame. Solid during batting practice, Weatherspoon had an exit velocity of 95 mph. (70.79 mph bat speed average). (20.29 mph hand speed average). Began in an athletic balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a controlled leg kick. Bat speed was electric, displayed a short upward swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Aggressive gap to gap approach. While catching, his best recorded throw to second was clocked at 74 mph; showed quick athletic feet, consistent hands, and a clean natural transfer. had consistent pop times of 2.01-2.16. A lot of flexibility and staggered setup. Used a ¾ slot and a short arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the base. Recorded a time of 7.68 in the 60-yard dash.

Ryan Yaroshuk SS / RHP / Coral Reef, FL / 2023

6-foot-2, 195-pound solid athletic frame. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 94 mph. (68.95 mph bat speed average). (22.01 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a small load, then uses a short stride. Has electric bat speed, upward swing plane and high finish. Through his round he found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid while in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 80 mph; shows smooth athletic feet, soft consistent hands, and a clean natural exchange. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a long arm action and a low ¾ slot. Clocked a time of 7.14 in the 60-yard dash.
