2021 Senior State Games: West Region Analysis

The 2021 Senior State Games took place Saturday, September 25th and Sunday, September 26th at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, FL. The event featured players from the 2022 class representing their region of North, South, East, and West Florida participating in a pro-style workout followed by 3 total games per region in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

The weekend was full of talent from all 4 regions, but the South finished at the top going 3-0 throughout the event. To view all the stats from the event, check out our Stats Story. Today we will continue with our Player Analysis breaking down each player's tools and projection through complete scouting reports. We will continue with the West Region. Take a look.

West Region Analysis

Jorge Cartagena Galletti OF / Leadership Christian Academy , PR / 2022

6-foot-1, 190-pound mature athletic build. Solid during batting practice, Cartagena galletti had an exit velocity of 94 mph. (68.46 mph bat speed average). (21.67 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall athletic stance with a slow controlled load, then used a short toe tap stride. Had a level swing plane, quick efficient bat speed and high finish. In his round he found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid from the outfield, he made throws to the infield at velocities up to 87 mph; has consistent hands, a clean exchange, and smooth athletic feet. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Using a long arm action, showed consistent accuracy to the bag from a ¾ slot.

Evan Chrest RHP / Wharton, FL / 2022

Jacksonville Commit, 5-foot-11, 160-pound athletic frame. Above average on the mound, had a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action with quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Showed athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 88-90 mph; showed late running action and both sides of the plate command with heavy movement. (Max spin 2453; Avg 2342). He showed late fading action and control around the zone on his sharp changeup (81-82). Throws a tight slider (76-79) that has down in the zone command and swing and miss action. (Max spin 3134; Avg 3015).

Hayden Cockman C / 3B / JW Mitchell, FL / 2022

6-foot, 200-pound mature physical build. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 93 mph. (64.95 mph bat speed average). (21.27 mph hand speed average). Begins in a crouched wide stance with a tight rhythmic load, then uses a quick controlled stride. Bat speed is quick, displays a simple level swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid when throwing from the outfield, he showed off his strong arm with throws at velocities of 88 mph;showed athletic feet, a clean natural exchange, and consistent hands. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. While catching, he made strong, efficient throws to second at velocities up to 80 mph; had a quick natural transfer, smooth fluid footwork, and soft hands. had quick feet and transfers on his throw downs, recording a 1.93-2.02 pop time. Athletic setup with average flexibility. Used an-over-the-top slot with a quick arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the base. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.97.

Dillon Costello 3B / 1B / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022

Seminole State College of Florida Commit, 6-foot-3, 200-pound solid athletic frame. Projectable at the plate, Costello's best exit velocity was 97 mph. (66.36 mph bat speed average). (20.62 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a short toe tap stride. Bat speed was electric, showed a short swing plane and high finish. Created a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap line drive approach. Above average in the infield, displayed a velocity of 84 mph; had soft consistent hands, smooth rhythmic footwork, and a clean natural exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a high ¾ slot and a long arm action. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.99.

Ryan Crivello SS / 2B / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022

Saint Leo University Commit, 5-foot-10, 175-pound athletic mature build. Projectable in the box, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 97 mph. (69.03 mph bat speed average). (22.94 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance with a tight compact load, then used a quick controlled stride. Has quick bat speed, upward swing plane and high finish. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid in the infield, his best throw was registered at 79 mph; showed a clean natural exchange, soft consistent hands, and smooth feet. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed a ¾ slot and a quick arm action with decent accuracy to the bag. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.9.

Dearl Edens RHP / RHP / Keswick Christian, FL / 2022

5-foot-11, 180-pound strong athletic frame. Solid on the mound, showing quick arm speed he used a ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows decent effort. Showed athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands open with a falling off finish. Sat with his fastball at 84-86 mph with a max of 88 mph; has running action and control around the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2523; Avg 2244). He shows slight fading action and in the zone control on his sharp changeup (75-77). Threw a tight slider (76-78) with swing and miss action and down in the zone control. (Max spin 2603; Avg 2352).

Jadyn Fielder 2B / Sunshine State Elite Academy , FL / 2022

6-foot, 200-pound strong athletic frame. Solid in the box, the left-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 95 mph. (65.60 mph bat speed average). (22.28 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a short quick stride. Had an upward swing plane, electric bat speed and level finish. In the round he found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Advanced while in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 80 mph; showed a clean natural exchange, soft consistent hands, and smooth athletic feet. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a short arm action and a low ¾ slot. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.98 60-yard dash.

Cory Filley C / 3B / Pasco, FL / 2022

Santa Fe College Commit, 6-foot-1, 195-pound mature athletic frame. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 92 mph. (59.59 mph bat speed average). (21.37 mph hand speed average). Begins in an athletic balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a controlled leg kick. Bat speed was quick, used a short swing plane and level finish. He found lots of barrels with some loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Smooth athletic while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 81 mph; has smooth athletic feet, a clean exchange, and consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Behind the plate, he made strong throws to second and produced an efficient position velocity of 79 mph; has a clean natural transfer, smooth athletic feet, and soft consistent hands. recorded a pop time of 2.00-2.06. Some flexibility and staggered setup. Showed a long arm action and a low ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.26.

Nick Groover LHP / 1B / Cardinal Newman, FL / 2022

6-foot-3, 210-pound strong athletic build. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.16. Solid on the mound, had a long arm action and a ¾ arm angle with quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Showed tall balance point with even shoulders. Lands closed with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 82-85 mph and topped out at 86 mph; throws a heavy fastball with running action and command around the zone. (Max spin 2216; Avg 2122). Throws a tight curveball (68-71) that has down in the zone control and slurvey action. (Max spin 2438; Avg 2240).

Santiago Gutierrez LHP / 1B / Cardinal Newman, FL / 2022

6-foot-3, 210-pound solid strong build. Solid on the mound, showing quick arm speed he had a ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. Has an athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with balanced finish. Threw his fastball 82-84 mph and topped out at 85 mph; had a heavy fastball that showed running action and control around the zone. (Max spin 2166; Avg 2037). Has slurvey swing and miss action and down in the zone command on his tight slider (70-72). (Max spin 2162; Avg 1961).

Kerry Herndon-Brown LHP / OF / IMG Academy, FL / 2022

6-foot-1, 180-pound solid athletic build. Solid athletic at the plate, the left-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 94 mph. (67.10 mph bat speed average). (22.23 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced crouched stance with a compact load, then uses a short quick stride. Bat speed is electric, exhibits a short swing plane and good extension on his finish. Solid in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 87 mph; had smooth footwork, consistent soft hands, and a clean lengthy exchange. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses decent effort. Showed athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with a clean finish. Splitter (75-76 mph). Sat with his fastball at 84-85 mph with a max of 87 mph; has a heavy fastball that shows command around the zone and hard running action. (Max spin 2191; Avg 1971). Eli Kapkowski C / 2B / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022

6-foot-1, 190-pound strong athletic frame. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 93 mph. (62.79 mph bat speed average). (20.93 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced crouched stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a short leg kick. Bat speed was electric, had a short swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Aggressive gap to gap approach. While catching, he recorded a position velocity of 78 mph during throw downs; shows athletic feet, a quick natural transfer, and next level consistent hands. showed his ability to throw runners out with an efficient pop time of 1.94-2.04. Athletic clean setup with tons of flexibility. Had a ¾ slot and a short arm action with consistent accuracy to the base. Clocked a time of 7.27 in the 60-yard dash.

Casey Lockwood 1B / C / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022

6-foot-1, 205-pound mature solid build. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 94 mph. (66.04 mph bat speed average). (21.38 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced stance with a compact tight load, then uses a small leg kick. Has quick bat speed, short simple swing plane and level finish. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, his position velocity was registered at 80 mph; showed choppy feet, a clean natural exchange, and consistent hands. Laterally, movements were average and fielded the ball out front. Had a ¾ slot and a short arm action with decent accuracy to the bag.

Osmin Melendez SS / 2B / Reborn Christian Academy, FL / 2022

6-foot-2, 165-pound long athletic frame. Solid confident at the plate, Melendez had a max exit velocity of 95 mph. (59.95 mph bat speed average). (20.61 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall balanced stance with a quick load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed is quick, exhibits a short upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Augie Mojica RHP / 3B / A3 Academy, FL / 2022

Hillsborough CC Commit, 6-foot-2, 165-pound athletic frame. Solid projectable on the mound, showed a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action with quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Balance is tall point with an even shoulders in his delivery. Lands open with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 83-86 mph and topped out at 87 mph; showed hard running action and command around the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2673; Avg 2427). Had in the zone control and deceiving fading action on his sharp changeup (78-79). Threw a tight slider (72-75) that showed down in the zone control and swing and miss action.
