2021 Summer Standouts: South Florida

With the State Games coming this fall, we want to take a look at some players that stood out this summer. With the theme of #RepYourRegion, we will highlight players from each region of Florida who stood out this summer. With the Senior State Games coming first, we will start with 2021 standouts. Today, we will take a look at some of the 2021 summer standouts from the South Florida Region. Take a look.

2021 South Florida Standouts

Evan Ames 1B / OF / Canterbury, FL / 2021


Standout at the SWFL Mini Camp and Sunshine State Classic

Positional Profile: 1B/OF 
Body: 6-foot-5, 210-pounds. Extra large, strong, athletic frame.
Defense: Moves well around the bag, hands work, above average defender for 1B. 
Arm: RH.  INF - 82 mph.  Long to short arm action, quick high 3/4 arm slot. 
Hit: LHH. Tall, slightly open setup, strong hands barrel tilt load, quick leg kick activating consistent forward body momentum towards baseball.  Level bat path, natural lift, extension through swing on contact, above average bat speed. 
Power: 98 mph exit velocity from the tee. Present power to pull side. 
Run: 7.33 runner in the 60.  

Ephraim Bravo OF / 3B / Monsignor Pace, FL / 2021


Standout at the Top Prospect Games Daytona

Positional Profile: OF/3B 
Body: 6-foot-1, 180-pounds. Athletic, long, high waisted, projectable frame.
Defense:  Athletic gather, positive, athletic, forward momentum towards target. 
Arm: RH. OF - 89 mph. On line, accurate, stays on top of baseball, working downhill.
Hit: RHH. Wide athletic setup, slightly open, short quick leg kick, twitchy bat actions.  Above average bat speed, short compact swing, level bat path, squares up baseball. 
Power: 94 mph exit velocity. Line drive up middle/pullside gap approach. Projectable power.
Run: 6.73 runner in the 60. Quick twitch, athletic strides.  

Cade Bush 1B / 3B / Palm Beach Gardens, FL / 2021


Standout at the Florida ProCase 

Positional Profile: 1B/3B, Florida State
Body: 6-foot-3, 215-pounds. Has a tall, strong, athletic, projectible frame.
Defense: Fields off center of body, with a two handed gather, choppy footwork. 
Arm: RH. INF - 84 mph. Has a long, over the top arm slot. 
Hit: RHH. Starts with a tall, open, athletic setup. Knee bend/heel up, toe down lift into a short stride. Hands load back and down.  Swings a level bat path, with natural lift. Squares up baseball, with extension through swing. 
Power: 91 mph exit velocity from the tee. Line drive, dead pull approach with above average bat speed. 
Run: 7.48 runner in the 60. Runs with heavy, short strides.
 

Gavin Conticello SS / 3B / Coral Springs Charter, FL / 2021


Standout at the Florida Select

The USF recruit has really filled out a still long, Lean projectable frame. Has a lot of overall tools. Twitchy athlete. In the box, he stands tall and creates leverage while showing adjustability in the swing. Overall, has a high ceiling.  

Gio Cueto C / 3B / Belen Jesuit Prep, FL / 2021


Standout at the Florida ProCase

Positional Profile: C/3B, Wake Forest
Body: 6-foot, 190-pounds. Has a strong, athletic frame. Slightly high waisted, room to grow.
Defense: 1.93-2.08 pop times. Slightly open crouch, quick exchange, fluid footwork. Good defending catcher. 
Arm: RH. C - 80 mph. Has a short, over the top arm slot. 
Hit: RHH. Starts with an open, athletic setup. Smooth leg lift into a short stride. Late, quiet hand load.  Swings a long, leveled bat path with natural lift. Ball jumps off barrel, getting extension through swing. 
Power: 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Power, up the middle approach with average bat speed. 
 

Jorge De Goti OF / 3B / Belen Jesuit, FL / 2021


Standout at the Elite Squad Tryout

Florida commit. Strong lower half that he uses well to drive the ball gap to gap. Level line drive swing that makes the ball jump off the bat with ease. Loose above average arm defensively.   

Dylan King C / OF / American Heritage Delray, FL / 2021


Standout at the Florida ProCase

Positional Profile: C/OF, North Carolina
Body: 6-foot-2, 193-pounds. Has a tall, strong, compact, athletic frame. High waisted. 
Defense: 1.84-2.18 pop times. Slightly open crouch setup, confident receiver, quick, strong action body movements, gaining ground on throws to 3B, strong walled blocker. 
Arm: RH. C - 76 mph. Has a short, strong, over the top arm slot. Above average accuracy. 
Hit: LHH. Starts with a wide balanced, athletic setup. Knee bend/heel up, toe down lift into a short stride. Hands load back and up.  Swings a level bat path, with natural lift. Squares baseball up, easy swinger.
Power: 94 mph exit velocity from the tee. Power, gap to gap approach. Fast bat speed. 
Run: 6.9 runner in the 60. Runs with proportional strides, athletic. 

Joel Pineiro RHP / Westminster Christian, FL / 2021


Standout at the Florida Select

Controlled mechanics, mixes timing up efficiently. High ¾ arm slot, FB 85-87, top 88 with natural arm side sink, also commands FB glove side. Curveball 70-72 thrown for strikes. Has shown a presence on the mound and ability to compete at Preseason Classic. Velocity has made a jump and MLB bloodlines bodies well for upside. 

Manny Ramirez Jr OF / Calvary Christian Academy, FL / 2021


Standout at the Florida Select

Large frame w/ athletic, muscular build w/ room for added strength. Semi-crouch stance w/ long stride. Minimal hand movement. Above avg bat speed w/ strength. Controls the zone. Relatively new to baseball. LOTS of upside.  

Alex Ulloa SS / SS / Miami Christian, FL / 2021


Standout at the Florida ProCase and Elite Squad Tryout

Positional Profile: SS, Oklahoma State
Body: 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. Has a strong legged, athletic build.
Defense: Fields off center of body, displaying smooth and easy actions. Uses a two hand gather, showing soft hands, clean exchange, with fluid footwork.
Arm: RH. INF - 93 mph. Has a strong, short, over the top arm slot.
Hit: RHH. Starts with an athletic, middle balanced setup. High leg kick, with a long stride. Hands load back and down, with a barrel tilted load.  Uses a level bat path, with natural lift, and above average bat speed. 
Power: 96 mph exit velocity from the tee. Dead pull power approach, squaring up the baseball. 
Run: 6.85 runner in the 60. Runs with short, physical, choppy steps.
