2023 Preseason Classic: Day 2 Recap

The 2023 PBR FL Preseason Classic continued Tuesday, February 14th at Lawnwood Sports Complex in Fort Pierce, FL. Tuesday started with a matchup of Trinity Christian Academy vs JW Mitchell at 4:00 and Georgia Premier Academy vs Montverde Academy at 7:00.

Game 3

Game three of the 2023 Preseason Classic featured Trinity Christian taking on Mitchell. Uncommitted senior Ricky Gonzalez got the start for Trinity Christian. He would go 5.2 innings allowing no runs and just one hit. Gonzalez would strike out nine in his stellar outing.


For Mitchell, freshman
Grant Timmons would get the call to start. He went 2.1 innings allowing three runs with four strikeouts. Trinity Christian got the offense going early as Tarleton State recruit Jan Oquendo launched a three-run homer in the first inning. From there, TCA would never look back. They added two more runs in the 4th to go up 5-0.


In the sixth, Oquendo would make his presence known again with a RBI triple to right. He finished the game with two extra base hits and 4 RBI.


Trinity Christian would finish there and defeat Mitchell 6-0.

Game 4

The night game on Tuesday featured Georgia Premier Academy taking on Montverde Academy. For Montverde, USF recruit Logan Bevis got the start. The right-hander was up to 93 with his fastball. He threw four shutout innings allowing just one hit while striking out five.


On the other side, South Carolina recruit
Jevarra Martin started for Georgia Premier. The southpaw was up to 91 on the night. He threw two innings, allowing three runs with four strikeouts.


Montverde got the night started early offensively. After loading the bases in the first, the Eagles scored on a wild pitch, and added another run on a
Justin Orridge single. A third run tried to score, but Raudi Rodriguez would throw the runner out at home preventing him from scoring.


Montverde added their third run in the second inning on a
Logan Chapman RBI single. In the third, they added two more on a walk and an AJ Goytia RBI single to go up 5-0.

Stetson recruit Matthew Heyl came on in relief for Montverde Academy in the 5th. He pitched the final three innings, allowing one run with five strikeouts.


Georgia Premier got their only run of the game in the 5th when South Carolina recruit
Raudi Rodriguez drove in a RBI single.


In the bottom of the 5th, uncommitted
Justin Orridge led off with his second hit of the game for Montverde, doubling to left. Orridge would later score on an AJ Goytia sac fly. Montverde Academy would go on to defeat Georgia Premier 6-1 on Tuesday night.
