#5 Jesuit Defeats #10 Mitchell with a Late Charge

Tuesday night featured a top 10 matchup in the state as #5 Jesuit hosted #10 Mitchell. Getting the start for Jesuit was NC State commit Aden Knowles. The junior right-hander worked 5 innings allowing just 1 run, which was unearned, while striking out 7. He sat primarily 87-89 mph with his fastball.

For Mitchell, Florida State recruit Trevor Harrison picked up the start. The senior went 4.1 innings allowing 2 runs with 7 strikeouts as well. Harrison ran the fastball up to 95 mph on the evening.

Mitchell struck first in this one. In the top of the 2nd inning, Logan Koslin led off with a single. Following a walk, Mitchell had runners on the corners. Sam McKeown grounded to the first baseman who came up firing to home and the catcher couldn’t hold on, allowing Mitchell to score.

In the 3rd inning, junior DJ Pirela led things off for Jesuit, driving a triple into the left-center gap. Tampa recruit Grant Jordan followed things up by driving Pirela in with a single to tie the game at 1.

In the 5th, Jesuit started to break things open. They were able to knock Harrison out of the game, and get to Mitchell’s bullpen. With 2 men on, FSU commit Noah Sheffield doubled to left to score both runs. Zane Pestalozzi and Jacob Lozano followed with RBI singles of their own, and Jesuit would go up 6-1 after 5.

ECU commit McCall Biemiller came in relief for Jesuit in the 6th. The southpaw sat 87-89 with his fastball. He worked a clean 1-2-3 inning, while striking out 2.

In the 6th, Jesuit added more runs. Miami recruit Jake Kulikowksi drove a double to left center and was driven in on a single from Ole Miss recruit Wes Mendes. Noah Sheffield collected his 2nd hit and 3rd RBI of the night as he singled to score Mendes and give Jesuit an 8-1 lead.

Closing things out for the Tigers was freshman Wilson Andersen. Andersen allowed no runs on 1 hit with 2 strikeouts in the 7th. He impressed sitting 90-91 with his fastball as #5 Jesuit defeats #10 Mitchell 8-1.
