Central Florida Select Mini Camp: Standouts

The Central Florida Select Mini Camp took place Sunday, June 21st at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Florida. The event featured 2022-2024 players from the Central Florida Select organization participating in a pro-style workout and bullpens in front of the PBR Florida scouting staff.

Today, we will share with you our standouts from the Central Florida Select Mini Camp. A very young and talented team with many impact players in the 2024 class.

Garrett Baumann RHP / Hagerty, FL / 2023Baumann stands out the moment you look at him. A towering 6-foot-7, 215 pound frame. The rising sophomore has a clean, up tempo delivery coming from a high ¾ arm slot. Baumann really uses his long frame to drive downhill. The fastball worked 83-85 with late life. Showed feel and depth for his secondary pitches.

Talan Bell LHP / OF / Hagerty, FL / 2024The Florida State commit continues to show a very high ceiling. Bell was unable to throw due to an arm injury, but the athleticism still shows in the field and the bat plays. Gap to gap hitter with a low effort swing producing consistent hard hit balls.

Eli Fleming RHP / C / Oviedo, FL / 2024Fleming is starting to come into his own and continues to make jumps whenever we see him. 6-foot, 175 pound two way guy. Moves well defensively behind the plate. Offensively, the swing is easy and compact. Fleming showed some pull side power potential, and some added strength as he grows will add to that potential. On the mound, Fleming is a consistent strike thrower with a fastball 78-81. One of many talented two way players on this CF Select team.

Zachary Hopper 3B / RHP / Lake Nona, FL / 2024Tall, slender frame at 6-foot-1, 155 pounds. Another two way guy who stands out all over the field. Defensively, shows quick twitch movements with soft hands and an above average arm. Really like the offensive upside as he shows advanced barrel awareness and consistently makes hard contact up the middle. On the mound, Hopper works up tempo with clean mechanics. Fastball made a jump up to 82 and with added strength that velo will continue to tick upward.

Andy Perez SS / C / TBD, FL / 2024The athleticism really sticks out with Perez. He has shown the ability to play any position on the field and make an impact at that spot. Defensively, he is quick on his feet with above average hands and an above average arm across the diamond. Behind the plate, he shows athleticism with his movements and a strong ability to block the ball. The bat really plays as he has a knack for finding the barrel with a gap-to-gap approach. On the mound, Perez works up to 81 with a simple, easy delivery.

Schuyler Sandford RHP / 1B / Bartram Trail, FL / 2024Sandford may have the most upside on the mound as anyone in this group. Projectable 6-foot-2, 195 pound frame. Clean, repeatable mechanics and gets good extension as he drives downhill towards the plate. Low effort action with the fastball topping at 80 mph. That number will increase as he continues to fill out. Sandford showed above average feel for the slider and changeup. Both have a chance to be above average pitches in the future.

Dillon Smalley OF / RHP / Lake Highland, FL / 2024Long and lanky 6-foot-1, 150 pound frame. Moves well defensively and plays through the ball on throws from the outfield. Tall setup offensively with a gap-to-gap, line drive approach. On the mound is where Smalley has the most upside. Balanced delivery with a long, whippy arm. Fastball up to 79 mph with sink. Changeup has a chance to be an above average pitch.

Brayden Toro SS / RHP / Lake Howell, FL / 2024Athletic middle infielder who continues to show two way upside. Quick hands defensively and moves well around the infield. Wide setup at the plate with a quiet bat. Hands work quick and attack the baseball with an up-the-middle approach. On the mound, Toro works a low effort delivery. Fastball sits in the low 80’s with feel for the changeup.
