Columbus Rolls to District Playoff Victory

Tuesday afternoon in South Florida featured a district matchup between Columbus and Hialeah Gardens.

Senior Gabriel Cruz got the start for Columbus and was sharp. The Stetson recruit allowed three hits and one earned run over five innings of work. Cruz struck out nine.

Hialeah Gardens opened up the scoring in the first inning. Gabriel Borges singled in the first run of the game. Columbus tied the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning. Luis Miguel drove in an RBI single.

In the second, Andrew Gonzalez drove a two RBI double to give Hialeah a 3-1 lead.

Columbus answered back with five runs in the second. Lester Martinez RBI double, Carlos Jacome two RBI double, and Santiago Carriles RBI single.

Columbus added to their lead in the third. Lester Gonzalez added to his day with an RBI triple. 

Jovan Swasey added a sac fly to make it 8-3 Columbus.

Two more runs in the fourth for Columbus as Frank Francisco tripled in a run followed by a Jose Correa sac fly to give them a 10-3 lead.

In the fifth, Carlos Jacome homered to right. Columbus went on to win this one 13-3 to advance in Districts.
