The 2023 High School baseball season is officially underway. I kicked off the 2023 season at the Steve Georgiadis Memorial Tournament at Seminole High School which featured a matchup of #8 JW Mitchell and Dunedin.

Two highly touted arms faced off as Trey Beard (FAU) took on Trevor Harrison (FSU). For Dunedin, Trey Beard was exceptional throughout his outing. Worked four pitches for strikes. Fastball got up to 91 from the left side. 12/6 curveball showed depth. Changeup is one of the best in the state and got a plethora of swings and misses. Beard went 5 shutout innings while striking out 11.

On the other side,
Trevor Harrison continues to make huge jumps as the fastball was up to 95 mph. The 6-foot-3, 225 pound right-hander went 5 innings allowing 3 unearned runs while striking out 5. Harrison showed a changeup that got plenty of swings and misses, especially to lefties. He also threw a slurvy breaking ball that flashed sharp at times.

On the offensive end, uncommitted
Trevor Wesley led the game off in a big way driving a double to the left field wall. Mitchell failed to score as Wesley remained stranded on second. For Dunedin, Florida commit Sammy Mummau led things off with a walk but was stranded at third base to end the inning.

The scoring got started in the third inning when Dunedin’s
Bryan Loos led off with a single. Following a walk, Greyson McNeill laid down a sac bunt that was thrown away and both runners came around to score. TCC commit Roc Helton would later follow with a sac fly making it 3-0 Dunedin.

Beard and Harrison continued to roll, both going 5 strong. In the 6th, Dunedin brought in uncommitted senior
Jacob Riegel. Riegel dominated in 2 innings of work, striking out 5 including the side in the 7th. Riegel works from a tough low ¾ slot. He sat 87-89 with the fastball with a wipeout slider to pair. Riegel closed things out as Dunedin would open up the season with a 3-0 victory over Mitchell.
