Einstein Throws CG Shutout to Advance Canterbury to IMG Classic Championship

In the semi-final matchup on Day 3 of Week 2 at the IMG Classic, Canterbury HS, FL took on Aliso Niguel HS, CA for a chance to appear in the championship game. Both sides would get strong performances from both of their starters, but Canterbury would come out on top after 2019 RHP
Bryce Einstein (Canterbury HS, FL) went the distance and threw a complete game shutout.

Einstein, who is a Lipscomb recruit, kept the Aliso Niguel lineup off balance and out of sync all day as he kept the ball low and away, forcing their hitters to try to adjust. While he features a fastball in the mid 70s, the tall right hander creates deception and a tough angle on hitters throwing out of the side arm-to submarine arm slot, creating plenty of movement on his pitches. Many of the hitters in the Aliso Niguel lineup were out in front and seemed uncomfortable, as 13 of Einstein’s out came by way of a pop out. He also mixed in a slurvy slider at 66-68 mph that showed depth and late tailing action out of the zone. Einstein stayed poised on the mound and hit his spots when he needed it, escaping a couple jams with runners in scoring position late in the game. In the sixth and seventh innings, he retired the side in order and preserved the 1-0 victory for Canterbury.

The key hit for Canterbury came in the third inning as 2018 OF Danny Cunningham (Canterbury HS, FL) stepped to the plate and laced an RBI single up the middle to plate the only run of the game.

On the other side, 2019 RHP Evan Fitterer (Aliso Niguel HS, CA) took the hard luck loss, but was strong throughout and only made one mistake on the day. The UCLA recruit featured a fastball that sat 88-90 mph early, touching 91 before settling in at 86-88, touching an 89 or 90 when he needed it. He also mixed in a 75-76 mph curveball that showed 12/6 shape with depth and occasionally throwing a 79-80 mph changeup.

With the victory, Canterbury will take on River Ridge HS (GA) at 1pm in the Stadium field for the Week 2 IMG Classic Championship.
