Throughout the 2019 high school season, we’re accepting nominations from the coaches across the state of Florida for their program’s PDQ Player of the Week candidates. While there can only be one PDQ Player of the Week in the state, we’ll be using this weekly FL Diamond Notes post to highlight the top performers of the past week who fell just short of PDQ POTW honors. We cover all corners of the state, and the evidence is in this post.

Below are the Diamond Notes from March 5 to March 11.

PBR Florida would like to thank all the coaches from across the state who nominated their players. There were numerous worthy selections, making it a difficult challenge to narrow down our Diamond Notes. However, with much thought and deliberation we were able to narrow down our candidates.

+ Tyler Nesbitt, RHP, Labelle, 2019
Nesbitt just missed out on winning PDQ Player of the Week honors with his performance on the mound last week. The senior right-hander, committed to Florida, tossed a complete game shutout against Lake Placid, allowing two hits, zero walks and striking out an impressive 14 batters.

+ Zack Mercer, RHP/3B, Fleming Island, 2019
A Pensacola State recruit, Mercer was 4-for-7 with four doubles, in two games. He also picked up the win against Middleburg, throwing five scoreless innings and striking out 12. Off the diamond, Zack takes dual enrollment classes at St. John’s River State College and is a Dean’s List student.

+ Dylan Eskew, RHP/SS, Sickles, 2019
The two-way prospect continues to excel offensively and on the mound. The future Miami Hurricane had two home runs, six RBI, drew two walks and scored four times. Eskew also picked up a win, going seven innings, allowing two hits, striking out seven.

+ Riley Green, OF, Hagerty, 2019
No surprise here that the No. 1 prospect in the state is here. Greene is one of the top bats in the entire country and continues to produce. Last week he went 4-for-5 with four walks, two doubles, two home runs, six RBI and four runs scored in two games, reached base in eight of nine plate appearances.

+ Austin Amaral, RHP, University (Orange City), 2020
In some early district action against Lyman, Amaral was dominant on the mound. The Stetson recruit went six innings on 86 pitches, allowing only one hit while striking out 16 batters in the win.

+ Yazael Nunez, RHP/SS, Lennard, 2019
The St. Leo recruit had a week most two-way players dream about. Against Armwood, Nunez took to the mound for a complete game 14 strikeout performance and then added an RBI on a 2-for-3 day at the plate.

+ Blake Dincman, C, North Florida Christian, 2021
The sophomore catcher had a big week offensively for the Eagles. In six at-bats Dincman collected four hits, one double, one home run and, most notably, seven RBI.

+ Tobey McDonough, RHP, Gulf Coast, 2019
A future Ivy Leaguer, committed to Brown, McDonough was dominant on the mound last week in a big district matchup against Riverdale. The big right-hander tossed six and one-third innings allowed three hits while walking one and striking out 11.
