FTB Tryout: PBR Upgrade 2018 Breakdown

Orlando, FL- From August 18-20th one of the top organizations in the country, FTB, held their Fall 2017 Tryouts for players from the 2018-2022 classes. Players participated in bullpens on Friday night, went through a full pro-style workout on Saturday, and finally ended the weekend on Sunday with a game.
Below is a breakdown of the 2018s in attendance that added the PBR Upgrade option:

Ethan Groff SS / 2B / Trinity Prep, FL / 2018Rankings State Rank:123 POS:26
Tulane commit. He is an athletic infielder who always seems to be in the right place. He makes all of the plays with solid range and soft hands. The right handed hitter, has some steepness, but there is present bat speed. He has a feel for the barrel and gap-to-gap power that translates to games.

Ty Angevine C / OF / Creekside, FL / 2018Rankings State Rank:132 POS:15
Angevine has consistently shown he is an above average defensive catcher. He is flexible, gets into quality receiving positions and has strength in his shoulders and wrists with soft hands. The transfer is clean and has a strong arm with pop times from 1.95-2.0. He appears to have added 10-15 pounds of muscle and it shows up offensively. He can get rotational at time, but the path works and the lower half is stronger helping generate gap-to-gap power.

Migdiel Burgos C / OF / Saint Cloud, FL / 2018The 5-foot-11, 185-pound right handed hitting catcher, has a stocky build. Offensively, he starts with an open stance, he can get a bit shouldered and rotational, but is level through the zone. In the outfield he topped out at 77 mph. Behind the plate, he is a quality receiver. He has a quick, clean transfer and sound footwork resulting in a his best pop time being a 2.1.

James Sapp SS / OF / F.W. Buchholz , FL / 2018The 6-foot, 165 pound infielder hits from an upright setup and uses a small leg kick trigger. He has some present bat speed and is aggressively through the zone. There is some steepness in the swing, but has present feel for the barrell and gets quality extension in the swing. Defensively, he shows above average actions. A quality first step and works in rhythm to and through the ball. His hands work well and he shows a lot of faith in them as well as a quick transfer to release with accurate throws.

Steven Beach C / 1B / Santa Fe Catholic, FL / 2018Committing to Lake-Sumter State College shortly after the tryout, the 6-foot, 190-pound catcher has a stocky, wide shoulder strong frame. Offensively there is some length and tends to get out over the front foot, but has a strong lower half and will generate ap-to-gap power. Shows sounds defensive actions, hands work, feet work well under his body Shows some arm strength with a catching velocity of 73 and a clean transfer with a best pop time of 2.07.

Javi Baldor LHP / OF / Jesuit, FL / 20186-foot-1, 190 pound left handed pitcher has a s trong, lean frame. He has a simple repeatable delivery, uses the lower half well, with some drop and drive and throws from a high 3/4 slot. The arm action is clean, with the fastball ranging from 80-82 topping out at 83 mph.. With the strength and arm action, as he learns to stay over the back side he should make a jump. Shows a feel for a fading changeup at 76-78 mph.

Moises Piters C / 3B / Poinciana, FL / 20185-foot-10, 185-pound athletic catcher ran a 7.2 60 yard dash. The right handed hitter has a very minimal to no load, he still creates some rhythm and shows loose wrists and generates bat speed with some extension. As he continues to use a strong lower half, the loose hands and bat speed should generate some pull power. Defensively, the hands work well, he tends to let them get inside of his frame some, but as he continues to progress should be an above average receiver. He has a strong arm, topping out at 77 mph with a quick, clean transfer. The footwork is sound, but could be sped up some. His best pop time was 1.97. Overall there are tools both offensively and defensively to like and follow.

Nick Tripp 3B / OF / Creekside, FL / 20186-foot-2, 185-pound third baseman ran a 6.9 60 yard dash. Offensively, the right handed hitter shows quality separation in the load. There is some rotation in the swing, but the path is level through the zone. He could get some more use from the lower half, but the path works and shows a feel for the barrel. Defensively, he works under control to and through the ball. The actions work, could improve first step quickness but is a sound defender and topped out at 83 mph across the infield

Carson Roe 2B / RHP / St. Cloud, FL / 20185-foot-10, 145-pound 2B/RHP. Offensively, the right handed hitter starts with an open stance and is upright. The path is level, but could see benefit from better use of the lower half. Defensively, he has quality footwork and the hands are solid and work well out in front, topping out at 74 mph across the infield. On the mound, he lands in line with a short high 3/4 arm action Fastball worked d75-77 mph and curveball ranged from 65-66 mph.
