First Academy Takes Care Of Trinity Prep

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

Orlando, FL—The First Academy, FL, hosted Trinity Prep, FL, in a match-up between two rosters loaded with college recruits, but it was the pitching match-up between two freshmen on either side that was the difference in The First Academy’s 8-2 win. 2019 RHP Joseph Charles (First Academy, FL) went 5 2/3 innings and got the win while 2019 RHP Andrew Roberts (Trinity Prep, FL) pitched very well, but some miscues and key hits eventually gave him the loss. The First Academy got on the board first, but not until the fourth inning when Roberts gave up his first walk, a misplayed fly ball, and an infield error that led to two runs. Charles then helped his own cause by adding an RBI single putting the Royals up 3-0. Trinity Prep’s only two runs came in the sixth when 2016 OF Robyn Steenstra, a Stetson recruit, singled and 2016 C Jared Herron, a Florida State recruit, hit a home run to left-center field.

The First Academy responded in the sixth when 2018 OF Kendrick Calilao, a Florida recruit, led off with a double to deep left field. 2017 OF Kyle Holden drove him in with a single to right field. After a hit-by-pitch and a walk, 2016 3B Garrett Milchin, another Florida recruit, had a two-run single followed by another RBI single by 2016 2B Cody Oerther, a High Point recruit. Pitching changes on both sides stifled any additional offense and The First Academy closed out the 8-2 victory.
