Florida 2023 Rankings Update

Rocco Iervasi
Florida Director of Operations/Area Scout

The Holiday season is here and we have reached the last class to have their player rankings updated. Today, we take a look at the new Florida Class of 2023 rankings. A lot stays the same at the top with 3B/OF/RHP Aidan Miller (JW Mitchell) leading the way. Miller has committed to the University of Arkansas since our last update and continues to show first round potential tools offensively with a lot of upside on the mound as well.

The rest of the top five remains the same with SS Cade Kurland (Berkeley Prep, Florida) at 2, 3B Braden Holcomb (Foundation Academy, Vanderbilt) at 3, and IMG teammates C Brady Neal (LSU) and SS Stone Russell (Florida) at 4 and 5.

This class features a significant amount of players who have made a big jump heading into their sophomore year. Here are some of the biggest risers.

Risers

Landon O’Donnell, 3B, Inspiration Academy

O’Donnell burst onto the scene with a big time showing at the Sophomore State Games. Has a long athletic frame and was really able to create leverage and bat speed at a high level. Showed gap to gap power and some upside on the mound, up to 88 mph with the fastball. O’Donnell has since committed to Florida.

Wes Mendes, LHP/OF, Jesuit

Mendes is one of the top uncommitted players in the 2023 class. Tall, athletic frame and has started to become more physical. A true two way player who runs in the 6.6s. The swing is clean and compact with balls jumping off the bat. On the mound, Mendes is up to 89 from the left side and flashes an above average breaking ball.

Zaid Diaz, OF, Archbishop McCarthy

Diaz is a physical uncommitted hitter who has shown one of the top hit tools in the class. Left handed bat that uses his strong frame to drive the ball gap to gap. Diaz has power potential to the pull side but the bat to ball skills are advanced.

Ryan Rushing, LHP, Inspiration Academy

Rushing is an uncommitted arm to follow who has made a nice jump. Up to 86 from the left side and should continue to add to that as he gets stronger. Arm works clean with little effort. Attacks both sides of the plate with confidence and has feel for the breaking ball.

Paul Guerne, LHP, Calvary Christian

Guerne has made a big jump over the last year and has since committed to Duke. Athletic southpaw who runs his fastball up to 88 mph with late armside run. Guerne has a tight spinning breaking ball that is a true swing and miss pitch. He adds a fading changeup which makes up three above average pitches in his arsenal.

Peyton Prescott, SS/RHP, Sebastian River

Prescott is an athletic middle infielder who has made a nice jump on the mound recently. Fastball up to 89 mph that jumps out of the hand. The bat plays as well with quick hands driving the ball gap to gap. Overall, projectable uncommitted two-way player.

Liam Peterson, RHP, Countryside

Peterson is another uncommitted arm who has made a nice jump as of recent. Fastball up to 89 mph out of a funky ¾ slot. Arm works quick and has potential to make even more jumps as he continues to fill out.
