Florida Burn Tryouts PBR Upgrade

Venice, FL- In the second portion of the Florida Burn tryouts for the 2017 summer season, players from the 2018 and 2019 class were in attendance for a pro-style workout along with simulated games at Venice high school. Below are the reports on players who were in attendance on January 15th and had the PBR Upgrade.

George Andersen, 3B/RHP, Jesuit HS, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot-10, 181 pounds with a strong, stocky frame. Showed good carry and accuracy on his throws that topped out at 73 mph across the infield. At times can field the ball a bit flat footed, but showcased good footwork and body control. Displayed good hands and some range at third. At the plate he hits from a narrow base, starts with his hands low, and incorporates a leg kick into his swing. Creates a good load and potential for some future power. Registered an 81 mph exit velocity in the cage. Ran a 7.65 second 60 yard dash time.

Clay Callan, OF/RHP, Venice HS, FL (2019)
Stands at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds with long legs and broad shoulders on an athletic build. Showcased a good arm in the outfield as his throws into home were accurate and had carry, topping out at 79 mph. Shows the ability to track the ball with range and charges the ball. At the plate he hits with a wide base and has quick hands, using all of the plate. Produced multiple line drives during batting practice. Registered an exit velocity of 83 mph in the cage. Ran an impressive 6.75 second 60 yard dash time, which was good for second best at the event. All around interesting player with a projectable frame to build on.

Kevin Dubrule, SS/2B, Venice HS, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds with a lean, athletic frame. Displayed some baseball savvy by making a couple heads up plays during gameplay. Showed a strong, accurate arm from shortstop, topping out at 79 mph on his throws. Had good actions and footwork. At the plate he took a strong couple rounds of batting practice where he showed an advanced approach and a feel for the barrel. The hands and bat path are sound, which created hard, line drive contact and good extension through the zone. Registered an exit velocity of 77 mph in the cage. Ran a 7.29 second 60 yard dash time.  

Thomas Lemmerman, OF/RHP, Bishop Verot HS, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot-10, 150 pounds with a lean, athletic frame. Displayed good footwork in the outfield and tracks the ball. Comes through the baseball well and uses lower half on his throws into home. Throws were strong and on line, topping out at 80 mph. At the plate he hits from an upright, tall stance and keeps hands very close to his body. Made hard contact on the ball and had a standup double into the left/center field gap during the game. Registered an exit velocity of 80 mph in the cage. Ran a 6.99 second 60 yard dash time.

Kyle Machado, RHP/1B, Charlotte HS, FL (2019)
Stands at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds with a lanky and projectable frame. Showed above average athleticism while at first base, moving well laterally and having strong, accurate throws all over the diamond. Was able to handle the tough hops. During batting practice he took two strong rounds as he displayed a level bat path with power potential. Ball jumps off the barrel and he registered an 82 mph exit velocity in the cage. Ran a 7.55 second 60 yard dash time.

Parker Messick, LHP/1B, Plant City HS, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot-11, 205 pounds with a strong, solid frame. The left handed hitter has a very quick, unorthodox leg kick and load, but does a good job of keeping the hands back and the head quiet. Hands and bat get through the zone in a hurry and the bat path is good. Looks to drive balls into the alleys, swings with intent. Registered an 87 mph exit velocity. Strong arm from first, throws a little erratic. Moved well for size running a 7.06 second 60 yard dash time.

Antonio Naar, OF, St. Petersburg HS, FL (2018)
Stands at 5-foot-10, 160 pounds with a strong and athletic build. During batting practice he showed a short, quick swing and hit baseballs hard up the middle as well as the opposite way from the left side of the plate. Short stride and quick load. Registered an exit velocity of 81 mph in the cage. Choppy, short steps in the outfield, throws were from a lower ¾ arm slot and topped out at 74 mph. Ran a 7.30 second 60 yard dash time.

Brandyn Naar, OF/LHP, St. Petersburg HS, FL (2018)
Stands at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds with a lean, athletic frame. At the plate he displayed good hand eye coordination and a quick bat which resulted in some line drives into the gaps from the left side. Registered a 79 mph exit velocity in the cage. Some inconsistency in his swing path at times. Showed athleticism and some carry on his throws as he topped out at 78 mph. Ran a 6.94 second 60 yard dash time and a 4.75 second in game home to first time from the left side. Raw player with some upside.

Fletcher Perrigo, 3B/C, Riverview HS, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot-11, 145 pounds with a slender, projectable frame. Displayed short arm action on his throws from the infield and outfield, registering 70 mph on both. During batting practice he hit off a good front side and created torque with his hips on his swing. Registered an exit velocity of 74 mph in the cage. Added strength and maturity will help him drive the ball with more authority at the plate. Ran a 7.60 second 60 yard dash time, matching his in-game home to first time of 5.06 seconds.

Drew Pflieger, OF/1B, Bishop Verot HS, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot 10, 175 pounds with present strength and a projectable frame. Showed good footwork and actions in the outfield as his throws topped out at 71mph with a long, deep arm action. While playing first base he displayed the ability to move well laterally, make the plays. At the plate he created good torque with his lower half as both his hands and bat speed were above average, keeping the hands inside the baseball well. Gap-to-gap approach. Projectable corner bat. Registered an 80 mph exit velocity in the cage.

Steven Rodriguez, SS/2B, Keystone Heights HS, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot 9, 145 pounds with a slender, athletic frame and room to fill out. Plays with a bounce in his step and some quick twitch. Displayed some actions at shortstop and was steady with the glove as he fielded the ball out in front. His throws topped out at 73 mph across the diamond. During batting practice he showed a short, quick swing and registered an exit velocity of 76 mph in the cage. As his body continues to fills out, he will get stronger both with his arm and bat.

Patrick Romeri, 3B/OF, IMG Academy, FL (2019)
Stands at 6-foot-1, 183 pounds with a strong, tall body, suited well for a corner position. Makes the plays, fields the ball out in front, and showed side to side range in while at third base. Throws across the diamond were strong and accurate as he topped out at 82 mph. During batting practice he showcased pull side pop with above average bat speed with numerous line drives into the gaps. Had a tendency to rotate with shoulders and come out of his legs a bit, but has the tools to be a middle of the order bat at the next level. Interesting follow and clocked in at 7.08 seconds for his 60 yard dash time.

Noah Sheffield, OF/2B, Southwest Florida Christian Academy, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot-10, 135 pounds on a slender build with long limbs. From the outfield displayed an exaggerated crow hop, long arm action on his throws as they topped out at 70 mph. During batting practice he had a wide stance with a high hand set and small leg kick as he displayed the ability to make consistent contact. Registered a 67mph exit velocity in the cage. Gets out of the batter’s box quickly. As he continues to add to his frame and mature, he will be able to generate more strength in his swing, drive the ball more.

Ben Tobio, SS/C, St. Stephens Episcopal, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot-6, 140 pounds with a compact frame. In the field makes all the routine plays, ranging backhand and forehand. Shows some bounce in his step. Topped out at 64 mph on his throws. At the plate he hits from an upright and open stance with quick hands. During batting practice he kept hands inside the baseball well and looked to hit line drives to all parts of the field. Registered an exit velocity of 78 mph in the cage. Showed some athleticism by running a  7.18 second 60 yard dash time.

Charlie Vari, C/3B, Tampa Prep, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds with a strong, solid build. From third base he showed good confidence as his hands worked well and made all the plays. Ranged from his right and left. Displayed a quick release and accurate throws which topped out at 73 mph across the diamond. At the plate he showed some real power potential as he was able to drive the ball with authority. Swing is a little stiff but strong and makes hard, solid contact. Registered and exit velocity of 82 mph in the cage. Ran a 7.50 second 60 yard dash time.   

Cam Wademan, SS/2B, Fort Myers HS, FL (2019)
Stands at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds with a thin, wiry frame. High energy player with some quick twitch. At the plate hits from an open stance and displayed the ability to use all of the plate as he sprayed line drives to all parts of the field during batting practice. Displayed good hand eye coordination. Runs the bases aggressively. In the infield showed range and quick feet with some arm strength as he was 80 mph across the diamond on his throws. Throws were accurate at times. Registered a 78 mph exit velocity. Ran a 7.22 second 60 yard dash time.  

Carson Weekley, 3B/OF, Berkeley Prep, FL (2018)
Stands 5-foot-10, 180 pounds with a strong, compact frame and some quick twitch. From both the infield and outfield the ball came out of his hand well as his throws had accuracy and carry to them. Registered an 80 mph velocity on not only his throws from the outfield, but in the infield as well. Good awareness, shows baseball IQ. Possibly future utility player, but more of a corner outfielder at the moment. At the plate the swing was level and long through the hitting zone as he displayed some bat speed consistently making hard contact to all fields during batting practice. Registered an exit velocity of 82mph. Ran a 6.98 second 60 yard dash time.
