Florida Draft Preview

By Nathan Rode and Rob Sidwell

The 2015 Major League Draft takes place June 8-10. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.

For a time, it looked like Florida would have its first prospect get picked first overall since the Phillies took Pat Burrell out of Miami in 1998. While it doesn’t sounds like the Diamondbacks will take SS Brendan Rodgers (Lake Mary HS, FL) at No. 1, he’s still a worthy candidate and isn’t expected to last past the top five. OF Kyle Tucker (Plant HS, FL) is also expected to go in the top 10 picks. While the country’s entire draft class is being panned, Florida remains strong with some high-end talent and solid depth. Some prospects will wind up dropping because of signability, but there are a host of players that will factor into the top 10 rounds.

Top Prospects

1. Brendan Rodgers, SS, Lake Mary HS, FL
Rodgers has been a high profile name for most of his high school career. He is an offensive shortstop with raw power to go along with his ability to hit for average. His explosive bat speed produces a lot of hard contact and he has an easy, fluid and smooth swing that creates a lot of lift.
