Florida Grind Scout Day: Standouts

The Florida Grind Scout Day took place Saturday, November 21st at A. Crawford Mosley HS in Lynn Haven, FL. The event featured players from the Florida Grind organization participating in a pro-style workout followed by a live game in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

Today, we will highlight the standouts from the Florida Grind Scout Day. Check out the top five biggest standouts from the event.

Standouts

Blake Bowen RHP / 1B / Mosley, FL / 2024

Positional Profile: RHP/1B - Uncommitted, Advanced body and starting to tap into the strength and athleticism. There's plenty of potential in the bat.
Body: 6-foot-3, 210-pounds. Large, durable frame with present strength throughout.
Defense: Fields with momentum through the ball. Hands can get close to the body but when he breaks down hands are low and out with eyes behind the ball.
Arm: RH. INF - 72 mph. Short arm action from a low 3/4 slot. Cuts it off at times but flashes the arm strength.
Hit: RHH. Slightly open, hands cocked behind the ear with weight balanced. Utilizes a short leg kick to get the weight back. Gets the core engaged and keeps the hands tight to create smooth bat path with above average bat speed.
Power: 94 mph exit velocity. Strength and intent in swing shows power potential with a chance to tap into it in the near future.
Run: 7.91 runner in the 60. 

Delivery:  Methodical, rhythmic delivery. Gets to a balance point. Tall and fall towards the plate.
Arm Action: RH. Long over the top/ High 3/4 slot. Releases out front with extension.
FB: T76, 72-76 mph. Hard 4-seamers at the top and the bottom of the zone.

Brady Krueger SS / 3B / Elberta, AL / 2021

Positional Profile: SS/3B - Uncommitted, Solid actions all the way around with the body to add. The arm plays in the infield and the bat has upside.
Body: 6-foot-1, 180-pounds. Long, lean frame. High waisted with strong, twitchy hands.
Defense: Solid first step. Smooth footwork with rhythm and timing through the ball. Soft hands with quick transfer and strong throws to the bag.
Arm: RH. INF - 80 mph. Quick, clean arm. Long out front with extension and carry through the target.
Hit: RHH. Slightly open stance. Weight balanced with high elbow and hands behind the ear. Subtle rocker step creates rhythm to allow for separation. Can get on the front foot at times but has a strong, quick swing when he stays balanced.
Power: 89 mph exit velocity. Gap to gap potential with strong hands and heavy barrel.
Run: 7.59 runner in the 60.  

Nate Maret SS / RHP / Mosley, FL / 2023

Positional Profile: SS/RHP - Uncommitted, Above average athleticism with some range in the infield and a knack for the barrel at the plate. Potential defensively and offensively.
Body: 5-foot-8, 155-pounds. Stocky, thick frame with room for added growth. Present strength in the limbs.
Defense: Quick first step. Chops feet behind the ball to create timing and momentum. Fields inside the left foot, replaces feet and gets rid of it with accurate throws.
Arm: RH. INF - 76 mph. Short to long, releases out front with backspin and carry to the target.
Hit: RHH. Tall setup, open stance. Weight slightly on the back leg with bat resting on the shoulder. Uses a leg kick to shift the weight and get the hands in the slot. Gets on plane early and creates a smooth, level bat path with a line drive approach.
Power: 85 mph exit velocity.
Run: 7.16 runner in the 60. 

Delivery:  Controlled, compact. Gets in the back leg and drives through the catcher.
Arm Action: RH. Short and quick out front. Loose finish.
FB: T80, 77-80 mph. 4-seamers to both corners. Rides at times.
CB: 66-67 mph. Sharp bite when on top. Has depth with 11/5 shape.

Samuel Mudge 1B / OF / Arnold , FL / 2022

Positional Profile: 1B/OF - Uncommitted, Starting to tap into the strength at the plate with a frame that could add strength.
Body: 6-foot-3, 205-pounds. Lean frame. Long limbs, wide shoulders suggesting room for continued growth.
Defense: Cuts off balls in the OF with efficient angles. Gets weight behind the ball and fields with momentum towards the infield. Moves around the bag well at first and picks it consistently.
Arm: RH. INF - 72 mph. OF - 77 mph. Short arm action with an over the top release.
Hit: RHH. Even stance with weight balanced and knees slightly bent. Elbow back with hands in front of shoulder. Creates rhythm and timing with a subtle toe tap. Fast hands through the zone with consistent barrels and a controlled swing.
Power: 97 mph exit velocity. Quick and strong upper body allow him to stay under control and still barrel balls with authority.
Run: 7.34 runner in the 60.  

Nic Taylor OF / OF / Leon, FL / 2021

Positional Profile: OF - Uncommitted, Strong swing at the plate if he adds a bit more power to the frame he could do some damage.
Body: 6-foot-3, 195-pounds. Thick, durable frame with strength in the arms and legs.
Defense: Chops feet behind ball. Fields out front, on the inside of the lead leg and creates momentum to aid the throw.
Arm: RH. OF - 84 mph. Quick, strong arm. Short to long with optimal follow through and some arm strength.
Hit: RHH. Wide stance, weight slightly on the back leg with quiet hands behind ear. Gets on plane early with slight lift at times but keeps the hands tight and creates torque in the barrel. Gets the bat through the zone efficiently and finishes the swing.
Power: 87 mph exit velocity. Strong, quick swing could lead to gappers turning into homers.
Run: 7.65 runner in the 60.
