Florida National Qualifier: Day 3 Scout Blog

The Florida National Qualifier continued at IMG Academy with action all day from the Upperclass and Underclass Divisions. The tournament will last four days with a winner in each division determined on Monday. Today, we will take a look at our Scout Notes from Day 3 at the Florida National Qualifier. See who stood out to our PBR Florida Scouts.

Day 3 Scout Blog

Alejandro Aguilar LHP / OF / Jefferson, FL / 2023

Long, lanky frame. Some present athleticism with a chance to add strength. Shows an efficient bat path and stays level through the ball. Can get the barrel to the top of the zone. 

 


Ethan Burkhardt 3B / RHP / Bishop McLaughlin, FL / 2024

Impressive outing by Burkardt going 3 ⅔ striking out 7. He mixes his pitches well and shows a good idea of how to pitch. He throws all pitches to both sides of the play and keeps hitters honest. Has good life on the fastball running it up to 86 MPH, with a swing and miss curveball. 

 

 


Frank Chiliberti 1B / St. Thomas Aquinas, FL / 2023

Has a thick frame but moves well. Transfers the weight in the load and gets on time consistently. Advanced barrel control with optimal attack angles when he stays within himself. 

 


Evan Chrest RHP / Wharton, FL / 2022

Strike throwing, uncommitted RHP. Spotted FB to both sides of plate with natural arm side run. Spin rate on SL got up to 2914 rpm with bite.

Nick Cucchi OF / RHP / Bishop McLaughlin , FL / 2024

Cucchi continues to fill out the lean, twitchy frame. Quickness presents itself at the plate with a short, compact swing and a whippy barrel. Gets the bat through the zone efficiently with natural lift and smokes balls off the barrel. Impressed on the defensive side of the ball as well showing athleticism and range in center field.

 

 


Joey Daniels C / 3B / Steinbrenner, FL / 2022

Daniels continues to swing a hot bat. Comes through with another hit and 2 RBI’s. Shows a good consistent approach staying nice and balanced.


 

 


Evan Dempsey OF / RHP / Newsome, FL / 2023

Interesting young arm to follow with arm strength and ability to really spin it. Topped at 88 mph on FB that showed late riding action. CB has plus spin at 3262 rpm.

Jack Earnest 2B / OF / Jesuit, FL / 2024

Earnest delivers the biggest hit of the game with a walkoff double. Got his hands to the ball and drove it down the left field line. 

 


Joseph Fritz OF / RHP / Jefferson , FL / 2023

Fritz has impressed as the hit tool continues to show out. Is getting better at the plate as he plays. Shows a mature, simple approach and gets proper direction in the swing.  

 


Cole Huddleston SS / RHP / Palm Harbor University , FL / 2024

Huddleston went 6 shutout innings allowing 3 hits and struck out 2. He pounded the zone consistently to both sides with all of his pitches and did a great job at keeping hitters off balance. 

 


Timothy Lawson LHP / 1B / Bishop Verot, FL / 2024

6-foot-3, 200 pound matured frame. Present strength throughout the frame with a rhythmic windup that allows him to fully engage the backside. Long loose, arm with some life on the FB. Attacked hitters with FB and when the CB was commanded he recorded plenty of swings and misses.

Justin Mayes 1B / LHP / Calvary Christian , FL / 2023

Mayes closed things out in relief for the Heat. 6-foot, 180 pounds. Athletic uncommitted two-way. 84-86 with the fastball with riding life up in the zone. Flashed an above average slider that was up to 2650 rpms. 2 strikeouts in a scoreless inning. 

 

 


Akhil Nimmala 3B / Strawberry Crest, FL / 2024

Continues to swing a hot bat with 2 more hits on the day. Shows lightning fast hands does a great job at getting the barrel to the ball. 

 


Nick Monile OF / OF / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022

Lean, athletic frame. Continues to show the ability to be on time out of the leadoff spot. Quick left handed bat.  Barreled the ball up three times today for three hard hit singles. 

 


Chase Nystrom RHP / OF / JW Mitchell, FL / 2024

6-foot 155 pounds. Projectable, athletic frame. Long/strong arm action over the top up to 87 mph on the downhill FB with command. SL flashed bite. Showed CH w/ run.

FB: 84-87
SL: 74-77
