The 2020 PBR Florida Select kicked off Friday, June 26th at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, The event features teams from the 15u, 17u, and 18u age groups. Each team is guaranteed four games with championships on Monday.

Throughout the weekend, we will have a scout blog for each day. These scout blogs are notes on some of the players that stood out to the PBR Florida scouts. Take a look at the Day One Scout Blog.

Day One Scout Blog

Jeb Bartle RHP / Cullman, AL / 2021

Stocky 6-foot, 210 pound frame. Short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 84-87 mph and got on batters quick. 

 

Bryan Boully RHP / 3B / Strawberry Crest , FL / 2021

FAU recruit, has a stocky, strong frame but has leaned out. Delivery is still a bit shouldered, but cleaner. Heavy fastball mostly 85-86 topped at 87 mph. Slider showed some depth and shape.


Barrett Bourgeois OF / RHP / Great Bridge, FL / 2021

Bourgeois led the way for the Warriors. Two hits including a double as well as three RBI led to 17 total runs for the Warriors.

 

Blake Busbee OF / SS / North Fort Myers , FL / 2023

Busbee was part of a SWFL lineup that put up 12 runs in their first game. A standout at the SWFL Mini Camp, Busbee continues to show well with an athletic frame and strong lower half. Showed a presence at the plate early with two hits including a triple that cleared the right fielder.


Brian Canasi SS / RHP / Tampa Catholic , FL / 2023

A standout from the Mini Camp, he showed his present power and potential with a home run helping lead his team to an 8-0 win. 


 

 

Dominic Castellano LHP / LHP / Jesuit, FL / 2021

Up tempo, competed in the zone his entire outing. Command of the off speed in the zone early, allowed him to use his fastball as a putout pitch topping out at 88 mph from the left side. 


Henry Cone RHP / 3B / Brenham, TX / 2021

Uncommitted 2021. Athletic arm at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. Fastball sat 87-88 and topped 90. Interesting uncommitted arm to follow. 


Ian Dempsey OF / RHP / Riverview, FL / 2021

Dempsey reached base all game long for the Monarchs. He rallied for two singles while scoring three runs total. Showed a present hit tool with the ability to work deep into counts. 

 

 

Trevor Finan RHP / 2B / Armwood, FL / 2020

Army commit. Finan struggled with command a bit but showed a quick, athletic arm. Slender, 6-foot, 150 pound frame. Fastball up to 89 mph. 

 

Gavin Fragale SS / 2B / Southlake Christian, NC / 2021

Athletic 5-foot-11, 175 pound frame. Showed above average quickness legging out a triple early in the game. The athleticism really sticks out. 

 

Jose Gutierrez SS / Bloomingdale, FL / 2021

Gutierrez went four shutout innings striking out seven. He worked stretch only from the high ¾ slot. Late sinking fastball up to 83 mph. Showed feel for the breaking ball. 

 

Kevin Martinez SS / RHP / Island Coast, FL / 2023

Martinez was on the barrel all game long out of the clean up spot. Collected two hits as well as making hard contact each appearance. Martinez showed well on the mound as well sitting 83-85.


 

 

Nathan Martinez SS / 2B / Vista Murrieta , CA / 2021

The Nevada commit was on base all game long out of the leadoff spot. Athletic 6-foot-2, 180 pound frame. Martinez would go 2 for 3 with three RBI. 

 

Arjun Nimmala SS / RHP / Strawberry Crest, FL / 2023

Florida State commit. Athletic, all around ball player. Above average bat speed, hands work quickly to baseball. Line drive RBI single down LF line. 


Ethan Petry 3B / RHP / Cypress Creek, FL / 2022

Recent South Carolina commit, he has really filled out. He has present strength throughout the frame. He stands tall in the box and creates above average bat speed and leverage with above average power potential. 


Alex Philpott RHP / OF / Newsome, FL / 2023

Lengthy 6-foot-4 athletic frame, 3-3 on the day with 3 RBI’s, home run shy of the cycle. Hand extension through swing, gap to gap power, hitting a triple for left center gap. 


Kevin Prado SS / 2B / Ida baker , FL / 2023

Prado added two hits for SWFL. Established himself out of the leadoff spot with two hits to help set the tone for his team. Quick, athletic runner.

 

Tanner Reed SS / RHP / Fletcher, FL / 2023

Athletic infielder performed all day with four hits and five RBIs. 

 

David Rossow RHP / 3B / Cardinal Gibbons, FL / 2022

High waisted projectable frame. Showing athletic body actions on the bump, letting the arm work quickly at a ¾ arm slot. Fastball sitting 86-88 with arm side run, topping out at 90 mph. Pulling the string at 73/74 mph with a splitting action changeup. 


John Schroeder C / 1B / Lakewood Ranch, FL / 2021

FAU commit. Athletic 6-foot, 175 pound frame. Got his hands extended and created leverage for an RBI double early. Followed that up with another RBI later in the game on a single. Continued to hit throughout the entire afternoon.


Reid Sondermeyer RHP / 3B / Barron Collier, FL / 2021

Tall, strong bodied frame. Showed gap power hitting a deep flyball over the center fielder’s head and reaching second base for a double. 

 

James Strom 1B / Steinbrenner, FL / 2021

Tall, physical LHH showed present power, using quick hands to pull a no doubt homer down the RF line. 

 

Andrew Sundean C / OF / McKeel Academy of Technology, FL / 2021

Tall and athletic catcher at 6-foot-5, 205 pounds. Threw out two base runners, showing an above average arm from behind the plate. Above average defender behind the plate.

 

 

Kurtis Thomas RHP / 1B / Nauset Regional , MA / 2021

Thomas got the start for FTB Tampa. The 6-foot-1, 193 pound righty would go five innings of work striking out four. He gave up just one unearned run working fastball 81-83 mph. 

 

Paxton Tomaini SS / 3B / Leon , FL / 2020

Chipola commit. Tomaini led the way offensively for the Southern Tribe. He turned on a fastball for a solo homer and reached base two more times with two walks. 

 

Brock Wilken 3B / C / Bloomingdale, FL / 2020

Wake Forest commit. Wilken continues to show the overall hit and power tools. Stayed on the barrel all game launching a three-run homer and adding four RBI for his team. 

 

William Wolff 1B / OF / Gulf Coast , FL / 2021

Strong 6-foot-3, 205 pound frame. Was a standout at the SWFL Mini Camp and continued to show quick hand speed lacing an RBI single back up the box.
