Guangorena Goes Deep Against Kelly

FULLERTON, CA—The National Classic kicked off Monday in California, with teams from California, Arizona, Utah and Florida. Before shifting our focus to the Boras Classic South, I took in IMG Academy, FL, against St. John Bosco HS, CA. IMG Academy has a host of draft prospects, including two in the current High School Top 100. On St. John Bosco is C Kameron Guangorena, who is formerly known as Kameron Ojeda. He recently changed his last name to honor his stepfather—something he has wanted to do since he was eight years old.

Guangorena was 2-for-3, hitting a two-run home run in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie. It came off a 92 mph fastball from RHP Levi Kelly and traveled over the fence in right. Guangorena is balanced at the plate with a smooth left-handed stroke. He made hard contact in all three of his at-bats. He singled in the first and then stayed back on an offspeed pitch, but grounded into a double in his second at-bat.
