Hatcher's Hotlist: Week 1

Cayden Hatcher
PBR Florida Assistant Scouting Director

Hatcher’s Hotlist is a weekly segment that covers a handful of standouts from the past seven days around the state of Florida. I will travel around the state covering high school and junior college baseball games and compiling a “hotlist” weekly.

Take a look at my five standouts from this past week featuring a draft bat, two highly ranked 2024’s, a high spin helium 2022 arm, and a solid 2023 infielder.

Hatcher's Hotlist

2024 Talan Bell, LHP/OF, Hagerty

Florida State commit. Bell is currently ranked #2 in the State for the 2024 class and #14 Nationally. There is a lot to like in the two-way, who can run the Fastball up to 91 mph on the mound from the left side and also swing it with a sweet stroke. At 5-foot-10 and around 150 lbs, there is room for continued physical development which projects well for Bell. This past week I saw Bell pitch against Olympia High School. He showed that he is far above his class in the mental aspect of pitching, showed repeatable/mature mechanics, competitive actions, and took the fight to the hitters turning in a no-hit outing with six strikeouts. At times Bell’s control was a little wild due to his high motor and max effort which should change as he continues to log innings on the mound, but to his credit, he was able to dial it back in and spot-up pitches throughout his outing and also showed an above-average pick off move giving base runners problems.
